I'm a smoker, I hate it, I would love to quit, my goal is to make sure I don't quit quitting. If you don't smoke, chances are you're not going to like a smoker. It is a filthy habit and nasty tastes and smells everywhere.

Just don't think of a smoker as a bad person. It's the habit/behavior that is bad. See as a smoker when I'm reading through this thread, I can see similarities to when people used to talk about minorities in the same way. "them", "those people", it's almost like your referring to us as the plague.

If you don't like smokers than don't date them. It's not our fault you don't like us, we choose to smoke(or choose to remain addicted, which ever floats your boat) which is our free choice to make, we're not out to impress you non-smokers and seek acceptance from you.

If I woman doesn't want anything to do with me because I smoke, okay fine, have a good one. Just don't come here and **** and complain. Honestly these posts make it sound like we owe you something because we smoke, or because we have made ourselves undisireable to you.

I'm not a big fan of smoking. I have dated smokers. It's one for the "con" column for sure, but it's not a dealbreaker to me.

trying to ignore the multitude of senseless posts here, but.. it.. is .. so.. hard.. To answer the original poster, yes, it is a complete deal-breaker. As a matter of fact, i would like to see the options for this category increased by adding "I have never ever smoked". That you quit last week and want to put "I don't smoke" in that category is not quite enough. Those of us who take care of ourselves do care about the health history of those around us.

..couldn't resist.. reading the posts that bash folks for taking the anti-smoking stance reminds me of all the stupid arguments heard in bars and pubs from semi-drunken smokers who claim to know what is truly scientific and correct, but wouldn't know a footnote from a bibliography to save their lives.

The only time folks are truly honest about their habits and choices are when those habits and choices are in their past. Then they speak their minds cleanly.

And here, here is one more to rile up the smokers: there is not a smoker out there, in my experiences, that is not a litter-bug. Every single one of you will casually toss your cigarette anywhere you choose. If you don't believe me, i challenge you: walk in any village, town, or city, and count each step, to 30, as you walk. Every time you see a butt, reset your count. If you ever hit 30, come back to this thread and let us know. I doubt you will see one honest post.

Where did all the trash cans go? I remember when I was a kid there would be trash cans with ash tray's in the top, if those were around I would butt out in them. Smokers have been forced outside by the rest of society, well now society should provide garbages to place the butts in if thats where you're going to make us smoke.

We can't just hold on to the butt and throw it out later because they stink even worse than what you as non-smokers usually smell of us. Any smoker that has ever put a half smoked cigarette back into their pack to save for later knows what I mean.

Now they have those small tiny, they never get cleaned wall mounted ashtrays.
I saw one on fire at a shopping mall, which was funny as it took 3 security guards to sprinkle water on it, to try to put it out. One of the managment group people came out to look, and it was dirty as hell. I asked him if the cleaners get paid to clean these and he said they are suppose too.
Normally they never get cleaned, or emptied and I bet ya it's a non-smokers job.
I know they never get cleaned half the time, so I put my butt out on the ground, rather than a fire starting and maybe it catching onto the building or foundation.

yup, all us smokers are dirty **stards...hey, fella, guess what? I called RJ Reynolds (makers of my fine cigarettes) and they sent me (for free) a whole box of disposable ashtrays...and I use them..so stick to something you know, mmmmmkay? Just cause we smoke doesn't give you the right to bash us...if you were paying taxes so I could sit home and smoke, maybe, but I work, pay taxes (and pay for my own health insurance) and buy my own smokie treats...I don't think I could date a nonsmoker...you can keep your holier than thou attitude, thanks anyway...

^^^^Let me explain,

There is a differance between the person and the behavior. I use this in my work all the time as a safety consultant. When I see a worker doing something unsafe, I don't tell him he's wrong, or unsafe. I tell him the behavior is unsafe, and there is a safer way to do it.

If you attack the person, you will get yourself into an argument. If you attack the behavior instead, you can have a discussion and find a safer(better) way of doing something.

I see a guy not tied off when exposed to a fall. I tell him that he's got the harness and lanyard on which is great, but he needs to use it to be safe. Positive reinforcement and attacking the behavior instead of the person results in him tying off with a smile on his face instead getting into an argument. When you attack the person their defenses go up, when you attack the behavior they are more open to your input.

yup; tell me you don't like smokers and it'll make me want to light up....tell me you love smokers, and I'll light up too...it's me, my habit and I'll quit if and when I want...no one here gets out alive, at least I KNOW what I'm gonna die of (unless I get hit by that truckload of smugs first)

IN my profile-----I have stated Non-Smoker, if A.... MAN SMOKE'S----they get DELETED, I just don't even consider them as a possibility to date them, their have been some NICE .......profile's...... of MEN...... I would have considered-----if they didn't SMOKE. Smoking ......ALSO... AGE'S YOUR SKIN, make's it look LIKE....Leather, and set's the Wrinkle's in............I have worked on good Skin Care over the year's------MOST people can--NOT believe I am age 60---just had my 60th on JUNE 14 2006.

I totally agree not to b*tch at a smokers house - it is their house after all. I used to smoke lightly and I quit completely as it was silly for me to smoke, I wasn't addicted and it made me feel yucky. On the negative side, I didn't gain any weight from quitting.

In the past, a man lied in his profile about whether he smoked or not and waited until our first date to tell me. I was sure he had said he was a non-smoker in his profile, so I waited until I got home to make sure before telling him I was not interested. This is a two-fold thing - lying in your profile and the smoking itself, but the lying really did it for me. He then accused me of just wanting to score a free meal and to try being more upfront with my blind dates! Upfront indeed. He has now changed his profile after getting a scathing response from me. He also lied about his age.

So people, please be honest on your profiles about your stats. Only fair.

I would not consider dating a full time smoker. An occassional smoker I will. And whether you really are an occasional smoker will show. Just my preference.

Quit in 2000....no regrets....best thing I ever did.

Saved a minimum of $21,900.00. Wow...I should have put 10 dollars a day into savings.

The no smoking policy in Manitoba is a good one. The smell makes me cough.

NASTY, NASTY, NASTY, NASTY Habit.... Did I mention its nasty?

I won't date a smoker. Just my preference.

I can look at a woman and think she is the most attractive, sexy, desirable woman in the world.....but the second she puts a cigarette to her lips, it is all over.

How do I tell a woman no do not smoke. I once went with this woman, older type, who smoked occasionally and always did it away from my car or the restaurant. Well, things have changed. I picked her up the other night to go to a nice restaurant. I had a brand new car. As soon as she got in the car she lit a cigarette. Thank goodness we only had to drive 5 or 10 minutes to the restaurant. Then at the restaurant they had some tables outside and we sat there. She immediatley lit up again only this time the manager said no smoking on the premises, it's the law. We had to move. So she said let's go find another place. We finally ended up going to a drive-in and then home. So how do you tell a woman dont smoke in my car???End of story. By the way we dont see each other anymore.

Most anti-smokers are just going along with the latest trend. This strident anti-smoking campaign really picked up steam when Bill Clinton became president. Hillary's brother was one of the lead attorneys going after the tobacco companies, go figure. Notice tobacco is only evil when it is contained in cigarettes. Cigars, you know, the things clenched between the teeth of loud mouthed, vocal politicians and other crusaders are just hunkie dorie. But don't expect the wind-up toy soldier camp followers of political correctness to notice.

In a few years, when the last of the money is divied up and no more lawsuits can be filed, a new crusade against something else will be launched and most of these people will jump on that bandwagon. I have also noticed that a lot of anti-smoking crusaders like to hangout in smoke filled bars and clubs and never complain, but will raise hell with a family member or friend who lights up a smoke fifty yards away and outside.

Oh yeah, and why do I seem to have more breath and stamina than 95% of the non-smokers who are sooooo worried about fitness and health? Sweethearts, you need to get some physical excersise, move around some, use those muscles more. All this health food and "clean living" nonsense isn't going to do you any good. In fact, I think maybe there is some truth in that old Married with Children episode where Peg gets Mr. Health guru eating junk food and smoking cigs and he dies in about two weeks. Old Al tells the family that a lifetime of never eating or doing anything bad left the poor guy with no immunity to anything and the first fast food hamburger was just too much for his delicate system. Like I said, I hate to cite a goofy sitcom, but there may be more than a kernal of truth to that idea. We lve in a world where *all* of our food, work enviroments, drinks, etc., are so loaded with toxins that those who are doubly careful may actually be setting themselves up for a fall. Like a person who has never taken a sip of alcohol will become incapacitated with a bottle of beer or a shot of whiskey.

Hi canock

It works both ways, I just think its a disgusting habit, and it stinks too....nothing sexy about seeing someone holding a cigarette and then taking a puff.....worse thing I would want to taste on one's breath is SMOKE...I have a nic name for cigarettes.....CANCER sticks!!

Soon it will be illegal to smoke in public...can't say I will have a problem with that....cost too much anyways to keep that filthy habit going.........

Women who smoke are weak....they say that they care for themselves but they are just kidding themselves and what an example they set for their family. But lots of them smoke
because they will put on weight and they won't bother to exercise enough. What does this occassional mean anyway? 5 - 20 a day?

I really AM turned off by smoking. I have several friends who do it...and I don't bug them about it. It's their health, their life. They're grown up people who make their own decisions. I can hang out with them, I can be their friends...but I can't date them. I did it once, and it was NOT a good experience.

I don't want to kiss someone who smells/tastes bad, and I don't want to not be able to kiss someone whenever I want, just because I have to wait until they go brush their teeth. It's not fair to me, and it's not fair to them.

I have met really fantastic people...that I'd LOVE to date...perfect on every other level...but it's a non-starter, because of the smoking. And I personally feel that it's not right for me to even say THAT to them. Because if you don't like/love someone the way they are, and you love them all the while hoping and expecting that they'll change? You don't love them at all.

So yeah...OP, a nasty old cigarette hanging out of yellow-stained fingertips, or dangling from smelly lips, fronting darkened stained teeth? I find it to be just as much of a turnoff as you do.

Ya notice how many people make comments like stained yellow fingers or stained teeth, or bad breath like we don';t take care of our appearance.

BTW did you know it's against the law to discriminate against smokers in the workplace ( well in Canada ). I had a waitress fired cause she refused to serve me cause I smelt like smoke.
Smokers might smell like smoke, but non-smokers are rude.

Well I can give you an opinion from a "smoker". I won't even go out with a guy that does not smoke. They all say " oh it doesn't bother me " but give it a few weeks and they are ****ing. So, to all you non-smokers, some of us smokers are turned off by the non-smokers.
