| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 8/14/2006 2:11:10 PM | Yes. I'm not allergic but the smell and the feeling it leaves in my lungs are such a turn off. Seeing a girl light up is so TOTALLY NOT sexy.
A friend of mine in university said she started just for this reason... to turn off guys she wasn't interested in.
If I ate something really bad for you and started cramming scoopfuls down your throat too... how long do you think it would be before you called me a$$? Probably before the first scoop

Because I have lived with three smokers and dated smokers - I no longer do. It is totally unacceptable behaviour to me. Yeeeeuckkkk!

Posted: 8/14/2006 2:31:00 PM | I think what really bugs me is someone who says they don't smoke but later on you find out that they have an "occasional" cigar or pipe. That is still gross to me. I guess with even the ones who say they do not smoke, you still have to ask them specificially if that includes an occasional cigar and possibly pot.
Smoking of anything or however infrequent still results in bad breath, yellow teeth, premature wrinkles, weaker stamina, smelly clothes, hair, house, car.......... waiting while they go outside because most places don't allow smoking anymore (thank Goodness). There isn't anything good about any of it. I dislike it so much that I am reluctant to even go out with a former smoker because I fear that they may go back to it and if they were a long time smoker.... the physical damage is already prevalent (the wrinkles and damaged lungs). Teeth whiteners and face lifts won't hide the years of damage it caused.
I tend to look for someone else who hates it as much as I do and that pays off for me. I'm glad more men nowdays are so turned off by it. When I was in high school in the 60's, it seemed everyone smoked except me.

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 8/22/2006 2:58:06 PM | I know how you feel. I can't believe how many women smoke. (OK, I live in Virginia. But, still.) It seems way more women smoke than men.
I can understand the nicotine addiction, but for anybody willingly, short of a gun to their head, picking up the habit now is beyond me.
I confess I smoke cigars when I canoe, fish or camp - to keep the bugs away ;-) It takes me at least a day to get the taste outta my mouth, though.

They rarely ever put them in a ashtray when they are outside. Even in break areas where there are ones. They just toss it on the ground like its their priviledge. You could fill several huge landfills with cigarette buts alone. The cigarette butts should be made to be bio-degradeable.

Then there are the s.h.i.t-for-brains morons that pull up to stop signs and then lean out and dump their stinking full ashtrays out onto the middle of the road. How lovely. Or you're driving down the highway at night and some single-digit IQ a.s.shole driving ahead of you flicks his butt out the window and it hits your windshield causing sparks. Scares the h.e.l.l. out of you so that you nearly drive the road and have an accident. But, they're smokers. Many of whom are concerned only with themselves.

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/4/2006 7:18:53 AM | No ...what really turns me off are judgmental A-holes that feel the need to express / push their personal quirks on the rest of the World! For some reason non smokers seem to view the smokers of the World as "less than" & that irritates the he** out of me! By what virture do you declare yourself better than anyone? I'm sure you have habits that would repulse others ..Are you "perfect?" - I'm betting not ....
This is America - A free, democratic society in which life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is guaranteed by act of Congress... If lighting a smoke is a person's concept of happiness & liberty, stand down, and allow that person to express their civil liberties as you would expect them to respect yours ...
Personally, I think this entire thread is shallow & narrow minded - Hey, here's an idea..move to Boulder with the rest of the Colorado tree hugging Nazi's!

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/4/2006 7:22:46 AM | Right on girl! Well said ..... It's funny how these anti smokers think it's OK to hang out in a bar all night, then knowingly break the law, and endanger the lives of innocent people by getting behind the wheel of their car under the influence .. Can anyone state actual case history of the last known traffic fatality caused by smoking a cigarette while driving?
Personally, I'd rather kiss a smoker than a drinker anyday

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/4/2006 7:39:19 AM | It's probably the single most non-negotiable item for me when considering a relationship. I get sick from it (I get an immediate and continuing sore throat).
So, no can do. The hottest woman on earth would become immediately undesireable to me if they lit up. Not that they'd want me to begin with! lol
I feel for those who have tried to quit but can't, must be a real B$##@!
I always think: They do up their hair, put on make-up, perfume, some watch what they eat...then OTOH they are simultaneously turning their lungs black. If people could see their lungs I guess they would care as much about the inside as the outside?

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/4/2006 9:33:35 AM | | Dear Scott Allen- You call me a judgemental a-hole who pushes their personal quirks on the rest of the world. Well buddy, that must be you. Because what the h-e-l-l do you think smokers do to non-smokers. They push their personal quirks on the rest of the world. Only we don't get any say about it because they want to do it because they are addicted? I guess that makes you a-hole huh? You answered that yourself.! Why should you push your toxic smoke, tar, cigarette butts, etc. on us? You don't see non-smokers making anybody breathe that toxic crap in bars or dining rooms or other public places. And I never said I was better than anyone else. I just impress my bad habits and make innocent people also have to deal with my bad habits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Non-smokers have to deal with smokers every day of their lives whether they want to or not. If you were a non-smoker you would feel the same way. | |

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/4/2006 7:51:05 PM | (This is not a stereotype, just an observation)
Get this, I did a search on women between the ages of 18-25 today in michigan. About 5 pages were all smokers(occasionally and often). I find that disgusting and stupid. Regardless if a girl is attractive, if she smokes, I wont date her!!!!

Let me see if I get this straight.....you're saying that people who are against smoking advocate drinking and driving? What kind of babbling bulls.h.i.t is this? NOBODY in their right mind thinks it's ok to drive drunk - be they smoker or non-smoker. Think about what you say before you put words to print, my friend. You're only embarrassing yourself, spouting lame, nonexistent sweeping statements about how anti-smokers are drunk drivers, in a pathetic attempt to portray them as the "bad guys".

Answer: No, I'm not; but my habits haven't been linked to causing cancer in others! he also wrote: [If lighting a smoke is a person's concept of happiness & liberty, stand down, and allow that person to express their civil liberties as you would expect them to respect yours ]
As a smoker you have a right to light one up and suck up all the toxic fumes you want; as a non-smoker I have a right to my air (down wind) not being polluted by a smoker's habit.
Would you stick your head in a open fire pit or wood stove and sniff the snoot and suck in the disgusting smoke coming from that? Highly doubt it; they don't call cigs cancer sticks for nothing! However, I do have empathy for smokers trying to quit-have heard it's the toughest addiction to get over.
As another poster said..non-negotiable issue for me and has been the reason for my not dating several people....tried to compromise once and it was a disaster.
