Driving a big Suv or something with the old v8 is just the same. The whole worlds like a big cigarette lol. I find cigarette smoking being attacked way to much. I'm not a smoker either, but I can see this being rather overdone.
Do people come here to pat themselves on the back and go "yaa.... we are such good people, so much better then those filthy smokers".

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/14/2006 6:20:26 PM | Smoking sucks! I would never date anyone who smokes...it has nothing to do with them as a person...it is the smell! They don't realize how they smell and how they taste when they kiss you! Ewwwwww! I smoked for 34 years...I never knew how bad I stunk until I quit and smelled everyone else! Smokers stay together because they cannot smell themselves...I would never compromise my ability to breathe to be with someone who doesn't care about my lungs, or even his own lungs. | |

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/14/2006 7:17:12 PM | Agreed smoking is a deal breaker. I don't even understand the term 'social smoker' there isn't such a thing. its anti social to pollute others airspace.
People who smoke but think they can conceal the 'odd one' have no idea about the senses non-smokers enjoy....we can smell the smoke on skin around the face, hair and hands despite mouthwash and washing. Smoke discolours hair, affects your sense of taste, smoking ages you making your skin dryer giving more wrinkles, it changes your voice on top of all the internal damage.
In an admin job i knew which letters had come from smokers or smoking households by the level of smell from the paper and opening the envelope...days later and passing through the postal system. Selling clothing at 'parties' in private homes my heart sank if smoking was allowed as i knew i would have to air my samples for days to get them partially acceptable again. Younger women seem to form the bulk of smokers now....they spend ages on make up, hair and nice clothes...then light up.....:(

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/14/2006 7:33:12 PM | | I absolutely get turned off by smoking. I dated a guy who smoked. One time we were kissing after he had just had a cigarette and he must have had gum or mouth wash after and it was the most disgusting combination I have ever tasted. I literally had to stop the kissing session because I was going to be sick. So yes I absolutely will only date non-smokers. Just nothing I want my body to be around. | |

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/14/2006 10:09:15 PM | I agree 100%, if you dont like it...dont date it! I am an ex smoker and personally cant stand the smell anymore. Would I date someone who smoked? Sure, if they were considerate and didnt smoke around me. Would I date someone I was interested in an LTR with who smoked? No. | |

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 9/15/2006 3:37:34 AM | I hate smoking, but if they are considerate about it, no problem. I would also hope they would someday quit or slow way down only for their health reasons. We all have our vise just as long as we don't disrupt others with it.
In this world today, as hard as it is to meet someone compatible, smoking/not smoking just will not equate into an issue with me. I am looking for a special person and if she smokes, what a shame it would be for me to filter her out. I may have missed a life changing encounter.

I am pretty sure that the comment about the hottey with the beer bottle to spit her chew into is the funniest and grossest thing I have heard in a while. thanks
People that smoke while riding bikes crack me up as well. Well really any physical activity.

just to think of the yellow teeth and the foul smelling pie hole....ewwwww.... of course that this doesn't apply to every smoker, but I prefer someone who does not have black lungs (even if I can't see them).

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 10/4/2006 10:52:42 PM | you are right, just because someone smokes it doesnt make them a bad person. but if the party that doesnt smoke gets bothered by it and feels that strongly about then its a big problem. personally, i think its a nasty habit but if someone wants to all the power to them....but it did get on my nerves when my clothes and such smelled like smoke...
this is a very touchy situation and there is really no right or wrong answer, just what everyone wants...

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 10/4/2006 11:00:59 PM | | well put.. lets not make this a smokers vs a non smokers thread... (although it already has).. its all about personal choices... I smoke , but I am quiting.. im down to a pack a week... I know it isnt healthy or enticing... but I dont judge anyone by what they do... I just silently exclude them. example... I meet a women who is lets say... unhealthy.. maybe overweight... do I say "hey.. ur fat... i dont wanna date you"? no... I just politely make it clear I dont want to have a romantic relationship with her... I dont go home after and high five all my non fat friends... If nothing else I made a friend... | |

Oh well, if truth be told in some cases a cigarette is more enjoyable than a crap date!
Each to their own maybe a bloke scratches his balls at the bar.. I wouldnt date him either hhahahah

Posted: 10/5/2006 12:56:50 PM | | I have asthma and the worse places that smokers go is casinos and evern with the non smoking section, you still smell the smoke. Imagine what their clothes smell like. Washington State is non smoking and that is so cool.

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 10/5/2006 4:22:47 PM | Smoking to me is a sign of insecurity. It is a sign that someone is not only ambivalent about how they treat their own health, but the health of others around them if they end up living with them. It is a sign of inability to handle peer pressure that led them to smoking. It is a sign of not recognizing the fact that over 70% of people in this country don't smoke (as of 1999). If you want to increase your odds of improving your chances at your date, learn how to quit smoking. I know someone who quit smoking cold turkey, and was over it in a month. It is a sign of not knowing that the habit is probably making them spend a fair amount of money on something that will increase their healthcare bills and others.
There is a coworker of mine who smokes, and I don't hesitate to talk to her at lunch since she's married, I don't exactly ever fancy myself ever getting to her more than at work. So I know smokers can be nice and friendly people too, but I just don't feel like I want to be involved in the baggage that comes with smoking in my day to day life indoors.

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 10/8/2006 8:19:20 PM | Nope. I'd be more turned off by a guy driving a Hummer or one of those huge trucks with the lift job and have an 80L gas tank.
The only complaint I have about smokers is if they smoke in enclosed areas, and/or don't freshen their mouths after. That's a lack of courtesy.
As far as fouling the air in general? Give me a break, cars stink far worse and pollute far more.
As far as health? My mother died of cancer at 49. She ate right, never smoked a single puff, did plenty of excercise. My grandmother died at 92. She smoked for at least 70 years. Health is not an excuse for me.
I think writing someone off because you see them smoke is sad. Not giving them an excuse to quit....
