You're perfectly within your rights not to date any one who smokes. Case closed. No kidding! However, I think these "holier than thou" types need a kick. No matter what the issue is, you don't date someone who doesn't appeal to you, who doesn't match your lifestyle or your beliefs. Do some of you think that by complaining and condemning will shame and change others into being what you deem acceptable? It's a big wide world with lots of choices. Chase what appeals to you and let go of criticizing what doesn't appeal to you.
Do you know what turns me off? Folks who gloat about their superiority.
There is a drop down menu for smoking habits. Stick to your flock.

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 6/20/2009 4:45:18 PM | Lil Brooker, your post made me laugh ironically and shake my head yet again. The question was asked if anyone else gets turned off by a smoker and many of us answered yes. Why don't I have a right to complain about second hand smoke drifting into my home? Why do I have to hold my breath to enter a public building because someone else is puffing frantically on their cigarette? Why do I have to see heaps of butts at traffic lights because someone has decided that's just a dandy place to empty their ashtray? The people who live below me can sit on their balcony on a beautiful, clear morning or evening, enjoying their coffee and cigarettes. I can't sit on my balcony, because the smoke from their habit makes me sick. But that's just my problem, right?
Yes, I chose not to date a smoker. That's my choice. It is not my choice, however, to have to breathe second-hand smoke and deal with the garbage many smokers, with the "world is my ashtray" mentality carelessly toss about. I should just overlook litter, which could easily be carried to the nearest trash can?
I have to laugh, too, at how smokers call us non-smokers - we horrible people! - self-righteous, holier than thou and other stupid names. Well, people who realize on some level that what they do has a negative impact on others do often protest too much.
Why do we non-smokers need a kick? To wake us up to the fact that having an addictive, harmful habit is somehow desirable? Gimme a break one time!

| does anyone get as turned off with a smoker as i do? Posted: 6/20/2009 5:00:37 PM | | My doctor recently told me to avoid second hand smoke to the point of being rude. I really think that it is a matter of health now and not just a turn off. My bf's room mate smokes and so does his gf. They go out on the porch and smoke together. I guess it is bonding, but I also think they look odd smoking. Everything you read and hear about smoking, actually just inhaling any kind of smoke, makes you wonder why they don't do what is necessary to quit now before something happens. My mom's best friend died today of cancer. | |

Posted: 6/20/2009 8:49:15 PM | Yeah, I recently moved into an apartment and people in the other building come outside to smoke and it comes right into my window. As I sit here, I can smell it and it's almost like my room smells more like smoke than outside does.....
I can't do anything about it other than close my window and get no air in here, but it really freaking stinks.
