Well I do understand what you mean. I quit for 10 years and am now a smoker again!
Now I stop. start. stop. start again.
I feel I know how how both sides feel.
I wouldn't want to be with a smoker mainly because when I stop it would be only a matter of time until I started again if there were smokes around all the time.
Besides it is a filthy habit!
When I put up my profile I didn't smoke so I put no, on.
Hopefully I will be able to quit soon permanantly.
Still I hope that the woman who I meet will be understanding of me.

I do not understand nor appreciate smokers breath........

I know some good guys out there picked up the habit, and I try to deal. I never succeed. Like too much cologne, it throws off unique/natural scents. It also has other adverse affects on the, I dont' know....LUNGS, teeth, lips and hands. To each his own, but I can never maintain interest.

As a smoker and a foreigner myself, I cannot say that I enjoy this thread. This confirms me of my current feeling. If I am to live here and find someone I should quit smoking which I do not feel like at the moment.

Ok smoking is bad, ok you have the right not to like it. But, sorry but there are sooooooo many other flaws one can have and sometimes those are not reversible while one can quit.

People say that they like beautiful, smart, funny, caring (etc.) partners but they stop at ridiculous items such as 'oh he is a smoker' 'oh he does not love dogs as much as I' or 'he is not a Cubs fan' (etc.)

My experience so far with American women is disastrous. It seems that you people are absolutely no relationship maturity. I insist on the 'SEEMS' part. It is just my opinion, and I do not want to offend anyone. But as far as I can tell, based on my love / dating experiences, this seems ridiculous. If you are not very close to your parents that does not work. If you are not a huge football fan that does not work. *(etc.) What the hell are you looking for??? Haven't you heard that differences make you richer? What do I care if my lover does not like the same music as I? Or soccer? It's her choice and I could not care less. i do no need her to be the same as me, as long as we love one another. And believe me, loving (yes the BIG THING) is about qualities as well as flaws. No wonder why couples here seem so sad to me when I look at them. They are 'partners' same word that is used in business but lovers? Well we do not have the same definition of love my friends.

Sorry for the rambling but I had that on my stomach. If you cannot stand a smoker suits you. But honestly, when I look at the extra pounds around me, the lack of class when dressing, the horrible cologne, I wonder... Which can be stopped most easily?

Watch the South Park Episode 'Butt-Out' on tobacco. It illustrates my vision, alas.

smoking is a habit - habits can be broken... if someone smokes, that doesnt make them a "bad" person or any less of a person. people should be "judged" according to their personality and values - not according to their habits. ive dated a few smokers and i found that they eventually quit - on their own accord... very few people actually enjoy smoking. so maybe you should get to know a person before deciding whether or not you're "turned off". no one's perfect and EVERYONE has their own vices or cruches. you never know what you could be missing by writing someone off before even saying "hi".

@ rominchicago ^^^^^^^^
AHMEN...
That is excactly the way it is!

I smoke because I like to smoke, when I don't want to, I do not smoke...Its that simple. Same with all the other things.
I wouldn't want someone that has a "hang up" on every turn!
Why not accept differances, and exploit the new stimulations of differance?? If everyone was the same, the world would suck. It's nice when you have things in common but whats wrong with a few differnces of opinion and desires, it makes for stimulating conversations and much more. The common things....Of all the things we have in common, it seems sex is the single most important to everyone now days.
Nobobdy seems to want love any more, regardless of wether or not you smoke. I can quit smoking if its important, and I can do so without craving if I am doing it for someone important to me, likewise I can change many things about me to suit the needs of myself or those I care for or about.
What I can not change is who I am, everything else can be adjusted accordingly.
People develope deep psycological issues with every little thing, like we are talking major pathilogical conditions. Everyone is suffering from compulsive disorders!...ha..lol..I should have became a shrink....living in Canada would have made me filthy rich that way...then again maybe it's all that ridalin they prescribe to the children... ...not really funny but sad funny...........

I tend not to answer profiles that are non - smokers...Being a heavy smoker, I find that it works better that way...Stick to my own kind, and not get nagged to quit!!

Smoking=big turn off for me.

I dated someone who was a smoker. A very heavy smoker, like a pack a day. Well, he was a bad kisser, and he had smoker's breath, and he didn't make an effort to get rid of it (I found out he didn't brush his teeth...eep!). I stuck with him, but I would have gotten tired of it eventually.

I vowed to never date a smoker again, unless he's willing to quit.

What I should have said when I meant he was a bad kisser, was that he drooled all over me. Try having that breath in places that it's not supposed to be.

Yeah ....smoking is bad for you, but some of us do it
Eating fatty foods / junk foods / deep frieds food is even worse for you, but some do it
Driving a vehicle puts out more bad in the atmosphere in one minute than 1000 smokers, but people drive vehicles..
Burning oil/coal/wood for heat is highly toxic for everyone ... but some do it ....
Drinking can lead to drunkeness ... but some do it
Hunting can be cruel ... but some do it.

So .... why not just take anyone that does any of the above and segregate them and choose from the rest. That should make you happy.

It doesnt really matter how much money a person has either..when they are dying of lung cancer they arent going to be able to buy their way out of that one!!

Thats just crazy to say that .You could get hit by a bus tomorrow (ever heard that one before).I would rather do something I enjoy and take my chances. I know plenty of old azz smokers that are not sick in the slightest. If you don't want to be with a smoker then don't ,but don't assume we all are going to get lung cancer & die ,,,Thanks..
