But there is no Dylan cover that can ever be compared to the original...

All *cough* Along *cough* the *cough* Watchtower. *cough*.

I do prefer Dylan's version of "Watchtower". I must be the only person in the world that does. Not ripping on Jimi, because his version is incredible, but I do prefer the subtlety in Dylan's version.

No, Casey, u arent the only one.....I actually prefer Dylans version to Jimi's of All Along The Watchtower...Jimi was an awesome guitarist but he doesnt have the poetic sensitivity of Bobby!...I prefer the acoustic Visions of Joanna (one of my fav. songs!) on Biograph to the studio cut for similar reasons..When I heard Dylans version of Mr. Tambourene Man for the first ttime, I thought the Byrd's version was too sappy and overproduced...

Yes, I own No Direction Home..it is wonderful!..Bob's so humorous, genuine and yet humble on it...Fascinating look at such a talented and charming poet...BTW, does anyone else but me love his new stuff?: Time out Of Mind and Love And Theft?..They are materpieces to me, as good as Hi61 and BOB and BIABH..Also, how many of you have any of the fabulous bootlegs?...I love Bootleg 1-3, particularly

I agree with that. Very down to earth man.

"No Direction Home" is worth having, if you are a Dylan fanatic, and worth watching if you are a casual fan. There is so much in that documentary. Scorcese did a great job putting all of that together. I honestly wish there were other documentaries for the remaining years. I only felt a bit cheated because it did focus all on his rise as a folk singer, the "going electric" years, up to his motorcycle accident after "Blonde on Blonde". Although his most revolutionary years, still not all of what Dylan had done. Mind you, Dylan has always been a recluse from the media. Maybe he still isn't willing to spill all of the beans.

As for newer albums, "Time Out Of Mind" (which can be put against "Blood On The Tracks" anyday, IMHO), and "Love and Theft" (still a fun album, probably the funnest album he has ever put out), are great. Just as good as the classics.

I have heard they may make NDH, part 2, to focus on his later years...Id love to see some footage on te Rolling Thunder Revue tour, the making of BOOT and Oh Mercy and the later albums....High Water is my fav. on LAT and Not Dark Yet is my fav. on TOOM...His new album is due out this August...I consider Dylans work to be musically educational...You learn about early blues, rock and roll, folk, bluegrass, ect, thru his music..Also, he is a DJ for a radio show in which he showcases music from all kinds of artists who are important to him...There is a traveling exhibit on Dylan at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this summer for those interested..There is also Dylan Days in Hibbing, MN, an annual weeklong festival of sorts held on his birthday (May 24), which I am excited to say I will be going to

Casey Jones, I completely agree, I have always preferred Dylan over any other person who covers them, I love Jimi Hendrix, but nothign to me sounds better than Dylan singing from the soul.. The man is a legend, there will never be another.

Hi

i recently watch a real cool clip of Bob Dylan and John Lennon in the back of a taxi riding round the streets of London in 1966, both are stoned (Dylan moreso), really nice to watch 2 legends just chilling out and having fun, even though i cant make head or tail on what theyare talking about(yeh groovy man!!!)

"Tangled Up In Blue" has to be my all time favorite but there are so many, and his latest work is as good as it ever was. His lyrics stand alone as some of the best poetry written in the last century IMO. I did get to see him in concert a coupla years ago; took my oldest daughter, just him and his band for about two and a half hours. It was amazing.

I havent seen ETD but heard about that scene in the car wityh Lennon....Cant wait to finally see it...NDH has some real winners ...."Dylan: I dont mind being shot, man, I just dont want to hear about it"...Band member mumbles about being scared...Bob: "I'll protect you!"...plus that scene where he scrambles up the words he reads on a wall about dog, cigarettes, clip, bath, ect....too funny!.....Reporter: "Would you suck on your glasses?"....Dylan..."No...anyone else want to suck on my glasses"....I laughed my ass off

Isis - great song Bob, you send the lyrics and Ill know what song.

A man in the corner approached me for a match.
I knew right away he was not ordinary.
He said, "Are you lookin' for somethin' easy to catch?"
I said, "I got no money." He said, "That ain't necessary."

I have a friend that followed Dylan on that tour around Europe and has been a steadfast fan since then. It would be an amazing gift if I could find the film you are talking about "Eat the Document". Any suggestions where I might look online to find a copy?

Greatest Hits Volume II is the casette that made me realize I really wanted to be a songwriter. I had been writing already, but... his lyrics, his vocal style, his playing... it just drove it home for me.

I can hear his influence while I'm composing sometimes, and it drives me right up the happy wall.

Dylan is a prolific and wildly talented songwriter. His lyrics are better than candy.

My favourite Dylan songs:
Don't Think Twice
Maggie's Farm
I Shall Be Released
Stuck Inside of Mobile
Blowing in the Wind
Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues
Positively 4th Street
All Along the Watchtower!!
Dignity
Forever Young

Man... there's so many more... those were the first ones that came to mind, though, so I guess those are my tops right now. Only regret that I never got to see him live in concert... YET!!

I have loved Bob for as long as I can remember.....as for him not being able to sing, listen to Lay Lady Lay when he'd quit smoking to show that he can. I personally don't care, I think he sounds great either way and will take Bob anyway I can get him. I remember being rooted to the spot in the kitchen the first time I heard Gotta Serve Somebody ~ must've been 14 or so when it came out. That song opened up a place inside I hadn't been before.

And only true fans are allowed to do this but if you have small kids or are around them, sing Itsy Bitsy Spider a la Bob..... they'll love it.

Sorry, can't pick one favorite and even listing a few would ensure neglecting to mention others.....

there has never been a 'good' cover of "knockin' on heavens door"; most people think clapton wrote it and are shocked when they hear the dylan version and how short it is! but a great song at that~!!
