| painting? photography? DeviantArt? Posted: 1/6/2007 9:03:46 PM | | I started out as a painter but then took up photography and have not touched a brush in 25 years. For years I shot only nature (primarily landscapes and skyscapes). My photography was just a hobby until about 10 years ago when I discovered that I had an aptitude for portraiture, fine art nudes, and glamour. Now it is my business. | |

| Are you into painting? photography? DeviantArt? Posted: 1/9/2007 9:50:48 PM | I'm a B&W photographer and do have my own style. Don't know what you'd call it though, I call it "experimental".
My favorite artist is Dali, makes my brain hurt and my favorite photographer is Abigail Rebeca Cohen, she passed away a few years ago with one book under her belt, but I love her work.

| painting? photography? DeviantArt? Posted: 4/10/2007 5:18:51 AM | Photography is one of my hobbies... had a good browse of deviant art a little while back and there is some awesome stuff on there.
I use an old Olympus OM10 with Manual Adapter and a few varied lenses. Just enough to carry around for a day at a Show or Festival, I get quiet days where I like to slip off somewhere in my van and play with settings, effects and try to create different effects.
I generally try to capture the atmosphere of various events and emotion of various situations. I have a small Fuji F420 digital for nights out and when the Olympus is just too heavy.
A varied selection can be found at www.four-leaf-clover.co.uk/site/galleries/
I have a lot more photos that I have yet to categorise and upload.. but I will get to it. Most recently was the long exposure snaps, taken around Bournemouth. Nice effects ... but is a lot of guess work as I'm using film, waiting to try a dusk session so I can get some cloud movement.

| painting? photography? DeviantArt? Posted: 4/10/2007 11:52:08 PM | An Olympus OM 10 was one of my first cameras too, in college I spent a year in China on a study abroad program and my mother gave that to me to take with me, and I returned with over 1000 fuji slides, and that is my first real experience with photography. I also have always enjoyed drawing and took a drawing class in the university I went to. Since then I have taken classical atlier style painting lessons. My instuctors favorite artists were Broghanau(or however it is spelled), Rembrandt and Vermeer, and of course she taught a similar style. It was alot of fun and challenge at the same time, and even though she thought I had talent, my main problem with it was I was too impatient, I would want to start something new before I even finished my previous work, the end result being that year of taking classes I have about a dozen completed paintings and about twice as many that are still in various stages of completion and probably will be for years to come I personally like Asian art, as well as Turner and the way he porttrays nature. In my photography I am inspired by Turner to try and capture the fleeting moments of nature, that unique moment in time that will never happen again, same with my journalistic photogrpahy,. I think what photography is really about is capturing that unique moment in time as well as place. I have also recently experimented with different painting styles that I guess I can consider a fusion of Asian art, Turner style painting, and the techniques I learned in my painting class. I am also doing computer illustration, mostly vector based, but that is mostly about money so I can transition from being a science teacher to an illustrator/photographer. I still prefer good old fashioned drawing to computers, there is something magical about the feeling I get rendering pen or pencil to paper. I also do stock photogaphy to build up a passive income so I can do some of the things I always wanted to do, like paint, make a computer game, write a novel, and some other projects before I get old. | |

| painting? photography? DeviantArt? Posted: 4/11/2007 12:32:22 PM | I love to draw and sketch, mainly portraiture and landscape. I wish I was a good photographer, but I just don't have it.
As for artists I love: at the moment I'm caught up in the work of James Turell, an artist who's primarily concerned with light and space. He's best known for an enormous project called Roden Crater near Flagstaff in northern Arizona. He reconformed the crater with bulldozers and road graters, believeing that celestial space actually had shape, that one could perceive the "celestial vault" above the Earth, and that a view from within the crater would reveal that architecture by so disposing the viewer. People who've travelled to Roden Crater--heavy-equipment operators as well as museums curators--say, yes, you do see that the sky has shape from the crater. I'd like to go someday, too.
Also the work of Linda Connor. I've been looking at her photographs for days now and it finally hit me today what it is that blows me away about them, what Gerard Manley Hopkins called 'the achieve of the thing': she's photographed indigenous time. She opened a door to a room in my mind I've never explored.
