OT - I have a 17 yr old son who loves a Sunday roast so he gets about 2 a month, I dont mind making it as he is so very appreciative of it. The other Sundays we are out or doing our own things so we are not tied into the tradition every weekend.  | |

Posted: 8/28/2006 1:53:37 PM | I bloody love Sunday roasts, if I didn't have my weekly Sunday roast I'd probably not get any vegetables into me at all :P
I don't do proper roasts though, I just buy frozen chicken breasts or turkey steaks and cook those instead. So cooking time for the whole shebang is only 30-40 minutes (roast potatoes take longest).

Posted: 8/28/2006 2:11:46 PM | | I share a house with a couple of people at the moment and myself and one of the other members of the house normally take it in turns to cook the Sunday Roast, though we don't ever sit down and eat it together at the table (instead we all retreat to our own rooms). However, Sunday Roast for me is a little different to most as I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat green veg, so my Sunday Roast normally consists of Roasted Parsnips, Roast Potatoes, Boiled Potatoes, Carrots, Yorkshire Pudding and normally a Veggie grill or something similar and occasionally a bit of mashed swede. However, I will also cook things like Peas, Runner Beans, Meat, Gravy etc.... for the rest of the household. | |

Posted: 11/9/2008 8:08:21 AM | today i`m having roast chiken breasts , roast potatoes and brusssel sprouts, theres only me and my son, but i make a roast every sunday always have, sometimes i make one during the week, had roast leg of lamb last week, i love the gravy made with the juices of the meat, mmmm only half an hour to wait
i have been on my own a few sundays and would make a roast for myself, aint bothered about all the washing up, the outcome is far better to be worring | |

How refreshing, a veggie who will cook meat for other people, I'm a confirmed omnivore, and regularly cook special meals for vegans and veggies as I respect their choice. It's good to know there are veggies who respect that omnivores have fellings too. | |

Its the same as Christmas dinner my sons are there lol the eldest left 5 years ago and the other one left last year and he is a chef but every sunday and xmas there they are at the table. I love it as its usually the only time I get to see them. | |

Like others, roasts are not only for sundays, but it is a slog if you've been at work etc all day - now pot roast in the slow cooker is a better option for those days. Got one ready to go on in the morning with what we were going to have today before we decided to go out. Always eat together at table with the kids, it's when we talk the most and with no distractions, a great way to find out what's going on in each other's lives. | |
