and consistency is what counts in bracket racing. Your car may be faster, but you gotta sit there and wait for the light after I launch muhahaha
youre right about consistancy, but youve got the wrong impression about bracket racing.... im not waitin on the light while i watch you leave, im not even racing you or anyone else in that other lane..... im racin the clock, and bein as consistant as possible on reaction times, trap, and e/t.
on the otherhand, i didt race bracket last year, it was more fun to go on fri and sat nights and race heads up during test and tune... our track will shut off the clocks and let us line em up grudge match style and basically "run what ya brung". with the extreme infux of import street cars showin up, its alot more action, fun, and money than runnin points. (some of em are suprisingly quick, altho most are pretty much 12-14 second at best, so its pretty much easy money when youre runnin a vette with a motown 454, 4.11s, and a lil juice )
btw, theres a kid that races a stock festiva for laughs up here doin 15.2's.... 16s in a 3300 lb car seems a lil off, why cant ya keep it consistant in the 14's?
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/1/2009 2:32:46 PM | festiva's dont weight anything! those and metros are actually fun to drive with a manual tranny. But my car still has the AOD in it, I'm going to build a C4 this year.
as far as having consistency problems at the faster times, much of it is fuel starvation and she's much more susceptible to temperature changes (both engine temp and air temp) when pushing it faster.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/1/2009 4:24:23 PM | I used to run a 69 Nova at a local dragstrip. I learned a lot about blowing stuff up and how expensive it gets. But the fun was trying a new set up and see what the car does, sometimes things went great and sometimes it didn't. Nothing is more fun at the drags than running with a manual trans, only way to race! | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/1/2009 5:02:50 PM | I used to have a 84 Dodge Rampage (you know, a truck version of the Omni). I had this pipe dream of gutting it and have a Alston tube drag chassis built for it. Then probably run a Mopar small block stroker motor and 10 inch slicks. That would've been a sweet set up. But I had to make it pretty and some kid fell in love with it, so I sold it to him. Better left for his enjoyment than me doing all the work for racing and maybe crashing it. | |

buddy of mines been all winter buildin his 73 nova.... heavy, but hey, with enough motor, still got the potential of haulin some a$$

i drive semi, i deal with 18 gears in traffic all week, ill keep my auto . between the stall converter and shift kit youd have to be a robot to be more consistant and hit it any better anyways.....
as for expensive, thats pretty much why i didnt bracket last year, and prolly wont this year. nice purses if you make it that far and run enough different tracks, but when you can "street race" at the track where its legal, eliminating the hazzard of the legalities, and make as much in a summer doin that for fun as i do drivin that truck for a year.... well, call me greedy

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/2/2009 9:33:00 AM | | No imports ....comon guys get with the times....yea yea yea i know carburated is the only way to go and it always will be blah blah blah lol but try driving something fuel injected with force induction. It will give you a high probly just as good as an oldie ....if not even better. | |

yeah, maybe, but why go thru all that work to make the power? im dyno proven at 761 hp@ the flywheel, naturally asperated, carb'd... and 1029 on a 3 stage fogger.
throw it in a shark body vette.... yeah, ya got your hands full runnin 4.11's on a locker, and a manual valve bodied 'glide with 3200 stall.

But, I'm thinking (researching) on installing a LS1 (fuel injected) with 6-spd trans. in my 69 GTO convertible. Maybe that will give you wood.

i dont recall askin anyones opinion of our "hobby" (um, i file a 1099 on winnings, id call it an enjoyable job personally).
either way, if you have no intrest in the sport/hobby/job, why would you bother wasting your time reading this forum, let alone open your pie-hole and inform us of an opinion that frankly, none of us cares about to begin with??
BY THE WAY...just for fun, i HAD to see who im rippin, good god man, you make it easy....
I love people who are funny, direct and honest. Being a nice guy means just that. People not just ladies should be treated well and with respect. I try to wear a compassionate hat. It feels better inside. Been a fairly good lad never been afraid of hard work I love it. Attracted to ladies with ambition and intelligence. Im fairly open minded so would never judge a book by its cover. Nut jobs are not a problem for me Im Irish so Im well used to them. Loyalty and truth are part of my character.I dont really feel pain only when I burst my toes off the legs of my bed....ouch....I love all types of music... Happy fishing.
where do i start??
well, 1st, you claim to be indian under ethnicity, then say youre irish in your description.... (arab indian maybe, but full blood native grows sparse facial hair at best), but lets start with your claim to bein a nice guy shall we??
a true nice guy wouldnt have bothered tryin to offend anyone by posting such an assenine statement in forum, oh, and hey, comapssionate? thatd include understanding, which obviously youre not
oh, and then theres the whole never judge a book by its cover thing.... have you ever been in anything faster than your corolla? how bout on a sanctioned racetrack? whens the last time you broke a buck fifty in the quarter? theres alot more than just "slammin pedals" involved, dont judge this book by its cover.
as for the rest, well, yeah, i wont bother, im sure someone else would love to pick up where im leavin off and point out the hilarity of it..
by the way, happy fishin to you

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/12/2009 3:48:39 PM | LMSFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FTW! alright anyway back to that ls1 motor in a datsun 280, what a CLEAN swap, barely any wires, you almost thinking it came straight from the factory like that.
What do you own anyways?
I got my Import/domestic 2003 nissan sentra spec v with a inline 4 2.5L ...in the process of a rebuild (blew the rings) building the bottom end for turbo

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/12/2009 10:35:09 PM | I love going to the track, just wish I had something to race with. Fortunately, my group of friends have a few cars we run. I help load cars, back into the box, and video the runs. If there is any "grudge racing", I am the negotiator, known for my quick wit and smart mouth.
I plan to finish my degree in Automotive Customizing, and open my own shop restoring old cars, as well as fixing up newer ones as well.
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/24/2009 6:30:17 PM | I need to get back to the track. It's been almost 9 years and I'm starting to go stirr crazy.
The last one was a '57 Chev with a 409 Pontiac engine. 12.22 in the quarter. Fast enough for me but I'd like to try for more.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/25/2009 9:08:42 PM | i havent been to the track in a long time. my car is a 2002 z28, 5.7 ls1, big loping cam, headers, full boltons, and tuning. best time when it was stock was 13.2. i havent been back since i cammed it. it should be hitting high 11's with a good tune and dr's. still have tuning to do and my clutch is broke. all i can afford to do these days it wash it and change the oil. :( | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/26/2009 11:10:30 AM | Always fancied a go at drag racing , there is ( I think!) a definate knack to staging and catching the lights , I want to learn that knack
Tried circuit (road) racing in MG saloons, rallying , sprints , hillclimbs, autotests, but never had a try at drags here in the UK - only two decent strips, several airfield strips , but in this country its not that popular, though its mega in Sweden !!

is this setup still on the stock 10 bolt? are you on ls1tech or any of the other fbody sites?

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/27/2009 4:05:06 AM | 10.45 in my car and it's an import. I hate people who hate on imports like it really matters. Drag racing is ok but I prefer mile racing.
Specs on car
1994 toyota supra Hks t-51s turbo Nx 125 shot Nter-cooler kit 272 camshafts Adjustable cam gears Oversized valves Etc.
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 3/29/2009 9:05:55 AM | | Been around racing since I was a kid ,love cars and racing but doing a 1/4 mile in a straight line is nothing compared to doing a fast lap around a 1/4 mile banked short track i 13 seconds or less lap after lap now that's fun and a work out to. Nothing against drag racing it's not easy but I enjoy circle track racing, get to race more than 1 car at a time and push , rub, and pass a lot of cars. | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 4/3/2009 1:31:05 AM | | That car should be in the mid-low 12s with that set up, even without the cam. The 01-02 F-bodies (w/ LS1) run 13.30s from the factory man. Something wasn't adding up. Were you spinning? | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 4/3/2009 4:34:49 PM | Cool! I'm surprised a drag racing thread exists. Too bad there aren't many girls with that interest or at least an understanding of it. Many at the races, but they tend to be taken.
Drag racing is a sport that takes patience, disipline and knowing your car, but I don't knock other types of racing. As they say, "to each his own". It can all be exciting, just depends on your preference.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 4/11/2009 1:06:52 PM | well for starters.......
I'd much rather own a classic drag car than building some piece of crap tuner I won't be able to get my money back out of.
a Classic will always hold it's value if taken care of properly.
tuners are dime a dozen with bad resell value.
admit it.!!! | |
