| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 5/31/2009 9:32:42 PM | | Cool thread. I have a Monte Carlo. We run mostly 1/8th mile here around North Carolina. So far I have been a best of 4.76 at 147mph. Love it... | |

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/13/2009 9:07:00 AM | | Where do you run? We have an IHRA track in my hometown. 4.70's ain't a bad time! | |

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/13/2009 7:33:19 PM | Hmm.... For those saying tuners are pieces of crap which don't hold their value, I would have to beg to differ. I've seen many sell for what it took to build them and I've seen plenty of muscle cars built to pieces of crap which don't hold their value... build quality means everything no matter what the car is. As for my car:
2001 VW GTI The car currently has a 12v VR6 motor with forged rods and pistons, Garrett GT40r turbo, Port and polished head with 3mm oversized intake valves and 1.8mm over sized exhaust valves, DRC stage 2 forced induction cams, ARP head studs, ARP main studs, Schimmel Performance intake manifold, Precision front mount, 3" open exhaust and an equal length tube header. I built the tube header, exhaust and charge pipes in house but the head work and bottom end machine work was out-sourced. The motor did 498whp through a 5 speed trans with cryotreated OEM gears and a Peloquin LSD on off-the-shelf C2 software/injectors and before the head work and cams. That motor is now on Tec3r stand alone with 1000cc RC injectors and made 761hp at all four wheels through a built 6 speed with custom straight-cut, dog engaged gears and VW motorsports front and rear differentials. The AWD swap was done by cutting out the rear floor pan and arches at the pinch welds and tacking in the OEM metal from a VW R32. After that everything else is a direct bolt on. The 4motion AWD uses an ECU controlled electronic rear differential system called a Haldex unit. I have a stand alone Haldex controller which allows me to turn the rear wheels off for gas milage, leave them powered full time or only turn on when the fronts slip. Right now I am building a brand new European R36 motor on the side which has HUGE head ports and 3.6l of displacement from the factory. With nothing more than upgraded hardware (IE: head bolts) and forged internals, we are going to try to make over 1000hp at the wheels from this motor on an HKS T51r SPL turbo. I've got the turbo and the tube header is done The OEM pistons and rods have been sent away to Wiseco and Pauter respectively for the forged units to be made. When the internals come in things should go quickly.
Please keep in mind that I'm the head fabricator for a major VW racecar builder. All of this WORK hasn't cost me anything and I have wholesale accounts to get the parts really cheap. This is also all in a gutted out car with acrylic rear windows and a 12 point roll cage with no body mods.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/16/2009 8:21:07 PM | I respect fast, no matter if it's wearing a Bowtie, Blue Oval, sheep, or any other brand across the grille.
Sounds like a nice build man. You keeping all that power streetable, or is she a full race-car?

when I see tuners start rolling up on the Barrette Jackson auction block tripling their resale value.......then......well.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/17/2009 10:19:11 PM | | KDS? Its a full race car. Plenty capable of going fast. we was on 1 system at around 150-175 shot on the4.76 pass. Car has been 4.40s before and 6.80s at 200 in the 1/4 | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/19/2009 8:26:59 PM | A few newer tuners/imports have rolled across the Barrette Jackson CLASSIC CAR AUCTION... and tripled resale value despite the auction being aimed at classic car enthusiasts. Try finding some CLASSIC imports though and you'll be disappointed to see just how many all original, matching number, mint GT500 Mustangs it would take to match the hammer price on one single Buggatti 57s... or is it not fair to compare classic muscle cars to classic foreign cars?
Mazda Rx7s, Toyota Supras, Toyota AE86 Corollas, Nissan 240sx/Silvias, etc.. are all holding great value right now because they are very much desired by enthusiasts.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/21/2009 4:51:22 PM | Ok, Yall get over the Tuner vs Domestic Crap. If you got something to show, put the money up and well meet and duke it out on the track. Same old stuff... | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/22/2009 3:38:17 AM | | hahaha
imports are KILLING it these days the only "fast" domestics i see these days are classics.
i remember my stock 97 prelude beat an 05 mustang gt from a 60 mph roll.
i honestly think america needs to step up their automotive game. Sure we need gas efficient cars, but who doesnt like getting good gas mileage with alot of throttle?
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/22/2009 12:46:42 PM | | I have to correct you, but mine is a 1999 Monte Carlo and it is capable of 4.50s in the 1/8. Around high 6s in the 1/4. If you want to see if your Prelude can hang I will be more than happy to meet you at a track. | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/22/2009 10:08:48 PM | If your car can pull high 6s in the 1/4 mile, it is NOT a 99 Monte Carlo anymore. It is a tube chassis RWD drag car with a 99 Monto Carlo-shaped fiberglass shell around it.
There is a local company with an older Prelude running in the low 9s with an OEM chassis. My car could pull mid 8s with the stock chassis still in place but we can't keep the driveline together in hard launches (yet.) There are plenty of stock chassis muscle cars in high 7s. Noody is hating on your car. If you are really in high 6s, that is an amazing achievement... but any shaped fiberglass shell can run high 6s with your chassis under it. I wouldn't call that +1 for domestics. There are Supras and such in the same time brackets by those standards.
Tell me you still have a FWD 660° v6 under the hood though and I'll call you a liar.
You guys care to share pictures of your cars? I'll bring up some recent of my Vdub and some 1000hp+ toys I'm working on at the shop.

Buggatti is a super car not drag racing.
I'm sure your heart is in the right place when it comes to your tuner, and hey I will shed some credit to the horse power they are getting out of those little cars.
but you cannot compare apples to oranges I live in an area where kids are spending high dollars retail on upgrades and mods on their tuners and going broke fast!
not trying to dis the tuner crowd but every car show I have been to (and I've been to a few) the tuner crowd was always over in their own little sector and the muscle cars taking main stage. Pound for pound it's FACT you can not compare a tuner to Muscle at the end of the day.
here is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

enjoy.
I'd kick ten nice imports out of my way to get my hands on this girl.....LOL!!!

There are plenty of imports running the same numbers. There is much more development into BBC engines because they have been around longer... A few years ago it was something very special to make over 1000whp with a Supra or RX7 but now it is common place.
So you admit the 99 Monte is no longer FWD and no longer has a 660 motor in it? That is a great achievement for yourself to make a car that fast but it isn't a 99 Monte Carlo anymore, nor could it ever pass inspections to be street legal for the next owner legally. I don't know man, a lot of these Hondas and such locally are making upwards of 900whp but the only things still factory on the engines are the aluminum casting of the block, not even the sleeves are original. I find a lot of trouble in saying that makes a Honda four cylinder motor better than a Kia four cylinder motor since the same mods would produce similar results; the parts would just cost more as they aren't mass-produced. When you are building a car, it is all about what you grew up on and your own personal likes. I built my car for road racing but it is a very capable drag car and I do drive it on the street.
BTW, that is not the worlds fastest Supra, that is the fastest full-interior Supra in the 10.5 class.

If you think the only fast domestics around are classics, you aren't looking hard enough.
Let's see... LS1 F-bodies, C5 Corvettes, C6 Corvettes, Terminator Cobras, Ford Lightning, Jeep SRT8, GTO, G8, CTS-V, STS-V, XLR-V, 5th gen. Camaro, Viper, etc.
Let's not forget how many V8s get swapped into RWD imports as well.
Your stock '97 Prelude beat an '05 Mustang GT from a roll? Sorry, but I call BS on that. How many lengths did you leave on him? You sure he was even racing you?
And if you think American cars aren't fuel efficient, then tell me why Corvettes are exempt from the gas guzzler tax? How come I see F-bodies and Vettes getting 28 MPG?
-Corvette ZR1 beat the Nissan GTR's lap time around the Nurburgring.
-All 2010 Vettes will get Launch Control and their warranties WON'T be voided if used unlike the GTR.
-Dodge Viper ACR is King of the 'Ring. Fastest lap time.
-'09 Cadillac CTS-V is the most powerful 4-door sedan out right now, cheaper than a M5.
America needs to step up their automotive game? Ha.
Nothing coming out of Japan right now impresses me. Lexus LF-A is out of the price range of enthusiasts...even worse they put it on hold. Same for the Honda's new supercar...put on hold. Nissan's GTR was overhyped. Toyota refuses to make something in the vein of the Supra. They continue making boring ass cars like the Corolla and Camry. The only turbocharged motor Honda/Acura ever made got thrown into the RDX, an SUV. Subaru and Mitsubishi messed up with their STi/Evo redesigns. If you think Japanese companies aren't having troubles, do some research.
GM may not be doing so well but I strongly believe they can make a great comeback. Many companies have gone bankrupt and came back out better than before.
I like all sorts of cars as long as they look good and move out but American V8-powered cars will always have a place in my heart. I may be driving an import now (stock, nothing special) but I can guarantee you that once I'm done with college, that will change.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/24/2009 10:06:12 PM | | Funny, I got a inspection sticker, horn, taillights, brake lights, etc. I'm just saying if everybody wants to get in a import vs domestic dispute, don't be willing to say something unless you are willing to back it up. IT AINT BRAGGING IF YOU CAN BACK IT UP... | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/29/2009 8:12:05 PM | I like what Mako has said. The ZR1 was pitted against the Ferrarri 599 , Porsche GT2, and the GT-R, with the ZR1 taking the cake, while Japan was licking her wounds in dead last in a Motor Trend comparison. Motor Trend and Car & Driver are both domestic-car bashers, but the test comparisons don't lie.
Don't forget about the C6 Z06 waxing Lamborghini Murci's on the street, on the strip, and on the road courses, with 2 less cylinders and being RWD as apposed to the Bull's AWD. You cannot deny America is king of the "affordable-muscle", so to speak, considering a ZR1 goes for just shy of $120,000 while the Z06 is around &75,000. The ACR, which honestly, I do not like, goes for about the same as a ZR1 and is 4 seconds faster around The 'Ring.
As far as luxury sport goes, the CTS-V, with the blown 6.2 litre powerplant coming in a 530+ hp and over 500 ft-lbs of torque is only truly dominated by the MB SL65 AMG Black series, with 661 hp, but weighing a good 400-500 lbs more.
Japan, Germany, and Italy all have fabulous racing heritage behind their respective automotive industries, but you cannot ever count out the US automotive industry. Give me a C6 Z06 over a GT-R anyday. Plus, the GT-Rs are needing new transmissions after 30,000 miles. The TR6060 used in the Z06/ZR1/and CTS-V is a MUCH better transmission.

| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/30/2009 10:45:15 AM | | Sounds nice. I am currently in the process of finishing up my street car. Got a 342 stoker in a 95 mustang with a 64e precision turbo and switching out the tko with a glide. Hopefully money will come around and I can rebuild the turbo headers and get me a 80mm mounted up front. Still have a cage and other stuff I still have to do though. What does the Camaro run? | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/30/2009 8:00:55 PM | I was gonna ask about the times on the LS1. Did you change the intake, or are you still running the LS6 intake? A F.A.S.T. intake/TB combo might help you out if not, but you're talking a decent little chunk of change.
Sounds like a sweet set up you got though.
How much compression and boost are you gonna run on that 347? I hope not too much seeing as how she's supposed to be a "street car", even with a glide.
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/30/2009 9:59:03 PM | | About8:5 compression. As much boost as I can get away with. I only havee 42 lb injectors as of right ow and will need to be upgrading. Buddies of mine have glides in there cars and like it on the street. Also with it being a turbo car, I can get away with less gear in the rear end. Probably going to drop back to a 3.55 or 3.27 | |
|
| Dragracing and Cars Posted: 6/30/2009 11:33:22 PM | | I got the stock LS6 intake on the car right now i'm waiting for my 92mm FAST to come in with a Nick Williams TB but it is a street car but it only gets driven on weekends maybe it goes to the track a lot but this setup i got in the car now i just put it in about a month ago so i haven't been to the track yet with this setup but my old setup was just full boltons it had pace long tubes with pace y-pipe electric cutout magnaflow cat-back exhaust under pulley C.A.I. and a street tune by XXX Motorsports the car made 348 RW/HP and it ran 7.90 at 90mph 1.81 60ft at the 1/8 mile track and on the 1/4 mile it ran 11.90 at 125 with a 1.80 60ft! | |
