(I did not actually try out for Canadian Idol, but I never would have made it anyway...LoL)... Drunk Karoke is good enough for me...LoL

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 4:44:22 AM | Of course women like guys that can sing to them; that why love songs & poems exist after all! Its pretty much the only way that guys have to express any feelings that would be seen as poofy or mushy amongst the macho male environs. Lets face it; Women are the ones that WANT the romance in their life. However, men ARE the romantics of the world.
And before i get howled down with my last sentence; i ask any females to let me know otherwise here:
1) When was the last time a classical poet was a woman and wrote an epic poem or sonnet about their man to nab him? We can all name examples of the guys; Byron, Shelly, Coleridge, Tennyson, Shakespeare, Noyes et al.
2) Where are all the tender songs from female artists (other than k.d. Lang or Melissa Etheridge) about their guys? There are many thousands in existence from most of the male artists and groups eg; The Beatles (Julia, Something, And I Love Her), Eric Clapton (Layla), Queen (Who Wants To Live Forever?), & Axl Rose (November Rain). Then you have Savage Garden (Truly Madly Deeply, I Knew I Loved Before I Met You), & even Angry Anderson (the Rose Tattoo guy) even popped up in the 80's with a song called "Suddenly". Everyone could name loads more dating even back before i was born! But where i ask are the songs written FOR the fellas by their ladies?
3) Romantic proposals are usually always arranged by guys (sometimes to music) that you see noted in gossip magazines and other news articles. Sky writing and signs, secret trips, rings in cakes and dinners, conspiring with relatives months, even years in advance, with romantic renditions of favourite songs or new poems and songs that are written especially for the occasion! Where are the ladies planning these things?
The best (not saying much?) example i can think of is Bec Hewitt and her "year 12" poem at the quote "Wedding Of The Year"
I await disection! | |

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 5:06:02 AM | Sirgabriel,
My goodness, if I can find a man that could sing of his love forever to a special woman, my heart will melt. I would love to hear someone sing this to me with romance and love all the way through to the day I die. That will be a great blessing from heaven above. Gabriel is a bible name. smile.....................................just do it Sometimes I sing to my daughter and she is so young. You could see her eyes gleaming and her smiling............she will ask me to make up a song and sing to her. I do it out of LOVE for her. She will ask me to hold her like a baby, she will ask me to rock her like a baby and all this come from within my own heart with LOVE.
So sing to a woman with true meaning of the heart and you will win her. Be sure she is for real. Love never fails.

just be yourself when singing at home. I am not a great singer but I play my own thoughts in songs and expression in front of my children. They love it and then our feet start dancing across the room. Including our dogs. haha

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 6:55:37 AM | If a man can sing to me I absolutely love it, since I also sing. Especially, if he can sing with me. I met a professional singer sometime back. He sang with a VERY well-known group until he had health problems stop him from touring.
He actually sang his way into my heart. We sang together on the phone for about 4 months. Many circumstances prevented us from ever meeting and it obviously wasn't meant to be, but I still think about him and miss hearing his beautiful voice.
I think singing is a wonderful way to express yourself to others. It can be especially romantic and if it makes you happy you should do it often.....even if it is in the shower.

Posted: 4/29/2007 7:23:19 AM | For dustyangel1: Patsy Cline, K.T Oslin, Terri Clark, Wynonna, Naomi Judd, Suzy Boggus, Loretta Lynn, just to name a few have written their own songs. Naomi's "Love Can Build A Bridge" and, "He Was My Strongest Weakness" is very 'tender'. So please give us ladies credit for being just as romantic as you believe men are.
And, being an amateur singer, writer and a poet myself, I can also write romantic 'stuff', even though nothing has ever been published, except on Poetry.com. And, did you know that Lionel Richy's wife wrote "Hello" and some of the other songs he sang?
And, because it is STILL a man's world, I think men are given far more credit for doing anything better, but us ladies know the REAL truth.

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 8:21:01 AM | chetan1o17: Thats why i asked to be corrected if it was possible, bcoz i admit to knowing of no female artists that have. Lack of knowledge does in no way mean lack of credit! One can only find out when one asks for this information. To this point, i post corrected.
I still say that guys are more romantic with everything else but!

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 10:16:38 AM | LOL I sang in bands for years. Wow, 2 decades I just realized! I always feel stupid busting out a guitar and singing. Though I used to sing and play for my ex. But on a date etc? nah, I like to leave the organ grinding singing monkey thing at home. I can be convinced though, if there is a campfire :)
Maybe after a while. But certainly not right off the bat.

Thank You!!! My sentiments exactly!!! After being thirty years in the pro music field myself, it gets a little annoying when talking to a woman on the phone or on a date, and after explaining what you did, the first thing out of her mouth is 'sing me something'!! Hello?? I'm alREADY on audition here....."Hey...sorry Ms. Cowell, but unless we're going to go down to your office with a bottle of wine and I can watch you ACCOUNT for awhile to melt my heartstrings, that part of me comes a little later....."...Besides, I already know that if we DO hit it off, there will come a time down the road where the supposed 'romantic novelty' will wear off, and I'll hear the magic words...'can't you turn that down? I'm watching Desperate Housewives?'.......
The days of singing from under the balcony are truly done.........

I think you should get a hold of him and see what is new with him. *****but I still think about him and miss hearing his beautiful voice.*****
You do have feelings for him. Go and search. Maybe he thinks you dont care about him. It will not hurt for you to make the move.
YES I AGREED WITH YOU. SMILE.................................. I think singing is a wonderful way to express yourself to others. It can be especially romantic and if it makes you happy you should do it often.....even if it is in the shower.
Ok start him soon. | |

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 10:54:51 AM | Yea...I do a Piano Bar thing too and get asked alot if I'll sing to them. Usually I just leave the phone sitting there on while I'm playing somewhere for awhile and let them listen in. Of Course, I ask them to sing "Do That To Me One More Time" wearing garters in the studio because I like it, too. Fair is Fair. | |

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 12:17:40 PM | LOL wwpt...
Amazing that so many women have so many different opinions on this one.
"Corny, cheezy, sexy, romantic... etc..."
No wonder us guys can't seem to please a woman.
The best time that singing to a woman worked on film was in the movie NASHVILLE when a young and handsome Keith Carradine sang the Oscar winning song I'M EASY. Four different women in the club's audience thought he was singing to them. I think his character was sleeping with all of them. Lily Tomlin in particular was incredible. Great, great moment in cinema history. Catch it if you can.
"Mi... mi... mi..."

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/29/2007 2:29:08 PM | Dear Bubba: Don't understand why you're amazed at women having so many different opinions on THIS thread...or on anything else. We've been trying to tell you for a long, long time, that we are all different.....we're our own people, with our own opinions, not necessarily always a "woman's" opinion. That might just be the clue as to why some of "you guys" feel that you can't seem to please a woman. Hmmmmmm. By the way, not too long ago I spent weeks on the phone listening to the magic tones of a beautiful professional singer who sang to me at least twice a day. It rocked my socks. But, when we met, I sadly found that it takes much more than crooning a tune over the phone to be compatible for a possible long-term relationship.

No wiser words were ever spoken about this topic............
Another reason I don't sing to them............ They were always in love with the singer...not the song lying inside.......

| Do women still like guys who sing to them? Posted: 4/30/2007 5:00:38 PM | In response to Becketlady: I wish we could get together, but circumstances prevent it all the way around. He had a stroke, and it stopped his career dead in the water, but I was willing to accept his disability, however, his personal life is in a mess, thanks to his so-called friends who robbed him blind when he was in the hospital recovering from the stroke. I wanted to write to Oprah about him, because practically everyone should know who he is, and he has been given a terrible knock-down blow and just cannot get back on his feet. He has been given a dirty deal. His phone is disconnected the last time I tried to call. I didn't want to end the'telephone long-distance relationship', but it was going no where and I just could not keep it going, it was too hard on the heart. I'm telling you though his voice would make any woman, at any age, swoon. I was like a teenager in love.
Men, if you sing half-way decent and are not tone-deaf, sing to your woman. It does something to our psyche and soul.
