Posted: 3/16/2007 7:18:26 PM | lol Okay. Scientifically speaking...every human being starts out as female. Look it up! It's true! In the end of the first trimester there is a flux in hormone that decides on whether or not the fetus stays female or changes to male. X Y chromosome stuff. You know. Pretty cool eh? Thus the presents of nipples on a man. This next little observation done best when you're chilled after a swim or after a bath. I want all you gents to look at your scrotums. On the bottom of it there is a line that runs from your crotch to the base of your penis. That would have been your vagina.
There has never been documentation that Adam had children before  Eve gave him the nod.  Poor Adam. lol
I read a lot of material on different religions. Kind of a hobby for me. Or maybe I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Oh well...tis for me to figure out.

Posted: 3/30/2007 8:04:50 PM | Until X amount of weeks of gestation, we are all female... It is at this point (not sure the amount of weeks, sorry) that the sex is determined. That is why we are all born with nipples.....
I dont know if God created us like this so that we match or something lol, i think a chest would look a bit odd with out them.... Maybe after he created woman he decided they looked better??  | |

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Yeah, I know later in Chapter 2 it says God made Adam and Eve with Eve coming out of Adam's rib. Putting Adam into a garden called Eden and all that...but I like the creation story in Chapter 1 better than the Garden of Eden creation story in Chapter 2. | |

Earlier posters said that we are all female in the womb before gender is determined... I don't understand that, but I am a firm believer that Science and Theology mix far better than oil and water do, Lol! The poster said that the males in other mammal species also have nipples, and the animals were created before man was (in religion or evolution), so it goes without saying that men have nipples according to plan, Lol! | |

It's obvious to me as well that males having nipples was part of God's plan. If not, I believe we simply would not have them at all. My question however is for what purpose did God locate potentially functional nipples on men?
Noisy Introvert, how would you like if men here made cutting jokes, like yours, pointed at women. However I suppose can understand where you are coming from because of the presumption some have that men were created first and women were an after thought. Perhaps they get this idea from the Bible's second account of creation in the second chapter of Genesis. This is also relevant to this thread because it seems to have man (Adam) placed on earth first then woman. It also seems to indicate that God is male by using the pronoun "he" in place of God in verse 22... "made he a woman" .

It's just a juxtaposition of gender roles as the god of the Jewish/Christian Bibles has traditionally been painted as having a male gender, even though it is pretty clear that such a being is pretty much without gender in the traditional sense... it was a bit of a larf.
How is it a "cutting joke?" If someone came in and started making misogynist comments we'd probably tell them to go stuff themselves up their own a***.

Adam and Lillith were created together, at the same time, from the same material. They were created identical, except for the difference in gender. The DNA coding common to both of these primal beings is the reason men have nipples.
Eve was created later, after Lillith revolted, not from clay as Adam and Lillith, but from Adam's rib.
It makes sense to me that the DNA, basically identical in Adam and Lillith, would have carried the necessary code for Adam to have nipples. It would have to if women were to have nipples. | |

Biologically speaking, men have nipples because when developing in the womb, the female body is the default setting. You only develop into a male when dosed with androgens. Androgens are male hormones, including but not limited to, testosterone. | |

This is a ? I didn't have to ponder long, as the answer was demonstrated to me before I had the ?
When my 2nd baby was 6 wks. or so old, my girlfriend offered to babysit while I did some errands. When I dropped off my newborn, she was busy in the kitchen, so her boyfriend, Jim, was offered up to hold the baby until she was free. She was a breast-fed baby & of course, I'd just finished nursing her.
It was a hot summer day & Jim was shirtless. So I left Jim holding the baby, in a cuddly fashion, when he left out a yelp that inspired his girlfriend to come flying out of the kitchen, to see what was the matter.
Well, there was my babe, latched on & not letting go!
There is your answer.
Women nurse babies, not only for the nutrition, but babes continue to suckle for comfort ...
before we decided to play God & give black & white duties to men & women,
God had the plan.
Both genders make them, both genders can share in looking after them.
Before we made plastic soothers, we had men. ;)

Oh, and if you think Adam and Eve were popped into creation without navels into some wonderful garden then you are so hopelessly deluded that NOTHING science, fact, or history can do to help you.
Come the hell on people, there is a point at which religion needs to be tempered by a basic understanding of the world around you.

Posted: 5/6/2007 3:19:08 PM | Actually, all plants reproduce sexually. Some of them also reproduce asexually, and some of them have almost eliminated the sexual aspect - but it IS the default. In fact, even some bacteria and protists reproduce sexually.
The X/Y chromosome argument is an interesting one, but it doesn't hold up with other species. There are many species which lack sex chromosomes, and gender is determined by the temperature at which they develop. Others change gender or MAY change gender sometime in their life. Then there is the W/Z chromosome system, in which males are the default gender.
Bottom line? If you start using scientific explanations in a religious context, ultimately the science will be a cancer, eating at a whole lot more than was intended. Note already the subtle shift? You started with the biblical "God made Adam", and have thrown away that teaching in favor of "God made Eve". So where next?
Rhetorical question. So - why did God give man nipples?
I'm agnostic, put my faith in science, and currently have no opinion on that exact question. Just thought I'd redirect ;)
edit - guess I shoulda read a few more pages of absurdity before getting caught up in the first! All one gender first??? Okay...that might work in a religious context, certainly not scientifically though.
And reptiles and birds do not change gender at will! Some fishes change gender as they age, and some change gender depending on population dynamics. No reptile, turtle, bird, or crocodilian is known to change gender ever. | |
