| Turn off when guys dont drive?? Posted: 11/8/2007 5:59:23 PM | I don't have a driver’s license, and I have never had one. I usually walk where ever I want to go; or I'll ride my bike if I'm in a hurry; or I'll just take a cab if it is necessary.
The transit system where I live is not very good; but I can walk to work in 15 minutes. It takes longer than that to have a cab come to my house.
Most of my life, I've lived in large cities where excellent public transit systems are the rule. In all of those cities, my friends tended not to have cars, either: most of them were also environmentalists, who simply made the effort to live without a car. Often, those same people did not have a T.V. either. They were actively involved in creating their community, had no difficulty keeping themselves and their friends entertained, and made a point of spending their free time productively.
So, believe it or not, there is actually an entire culture of people who do not drive cars; and believe me, the things that are said in that social sphere about the people who do drive would probably shock some of those who have posted in this thread.
As for myself: I'm 47; I'm 6'4"; I weight ~170 lbs; I have a 34 inch waist; and I can easily walk (i.e. hike) for 3 or 4 (or 6 or 7) hours. No offense people but, THAT is suppose to be what 'normal' is like... not puttering down the sidewalk at five miles an hour on your motorized scooter at age 55... | |

| Turn off when guys dont drive?? Posted: 11/24/2007 8:55:24 PM | | Not having a car is like not having a computer......not everyone needs one to survive, I mean, I got a car & a license but this ain't my computer (it's my roomate's). I never had a computer growing up, therefore, I learned to live without one (after all, you can't miss whatcha never had, right?) and if my roomate were to up & leave I'd like to think I could somehow survive without a computer. It's possible. We don't need PC's or IPods in order to live. How come I wouldn't date a guy without a set of wheels but I would DEFINITELY date a guy without a computer? Weird. | |
