| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 8/2/2007 6:04:35 AM | | loll some people are to dumb,I knew a guy once who worked with me at a feed lot when I was around 15,he was about 30 anyway this woman comes in with a friend and her friend ask her would you be interested in that, I over heard this,are you kidding he has a crap job and would be lucky if he could take me to a movie.Ok here was the deal with Dan the guy I knew,yes he did work at the feed lot,but he also owned 1500 acers in northwest Montana and had been in law school and also was a ex marine who served 12 years in recon,he lived in a nice home which he also owned,but not only that come to find out he was worth about 3 million dollars,turned out his dad was a big rancher but had died and left his son a good hefty bank account,as for the girl that thought he was a joke,she lost her job and a few months after found herself working for Dan in a small company he started I know nothing more beyond that. Keep in mind before you knock someone due to there job or looks,that you are just judging and don't have a clue about there life or what they really have or don't have or have done,some people like trying and doing different things as a change of pace,you make fun of them because it makes you feel big or you may think your better,the truth is your just being a idiot before knowing all the facts just like home girl did. | |

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 8/2/2007 6:21:11 AM | This thread reminds me of the "pizza guy" thread I started in Ask a Girl. Seems like job/occupation/career do matter..the title not just the salary. I know women who said they wouldn't date a pizza delivery driver but would date someone who sat in an office even if the pizza guy acually made more money. It is about status/title and "where they are going". Honestly if it is not a serious relationship I don't know why it matters. For me, there is no occupation that is off limits in a woman..it's not my business really. I probably wouldn't date a stripper or exotic dancer not because of what they do but mainly because women that do that are not my type..usually very thin/scrawny with overly large fake mammaries and flighty. I try not to judge a book by the cover but that has been my experience having known a few strippers. | |

Well I am a carer.
This woman got it into her head I was a doctor and freaked when I said I was just a humble carer !
So Doctors are good, bags of pretige and money. Not quite sure why one would be on POF tho ! LOL

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 8/2/2007 4:24:40 PM | | Whats up with the lawyer thing? Why is that a turn off? I would also say male nurses are hot. That whole caring for people thing. | |
|
| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 8/3/2007 3:05:26 AM | hey, what do you have against nurses? I have been a nurse for 11 years and a very good one I mght add. | |

^^ Damn right we are ;)
Lawyers ... ugh! A necessary evil to battle other lawyers. Reporters ... antagonistic hypsters who have seemingly forfeited their integrity. Basically any job where you know you're hurting others, but do it anyways (see two above for examples).

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 8/3/2007 3:51:41 AM | Wow...I had to jump on this thread. Few years ago..I had been conversing with someone on another dating site..and we decided to meet for coffee. We hit it off pretty good..or so I thought. He kept asking me about my job (letter carrier for the USPS) and asked me if I ever thought of quitting and doing something "more feminine"! He worked for a big financial corporation in an investment type career. I said "hell no"..been in college..and I quit when parents got divorced. Had to find something to pay bills with benefits and took the test when they gave it..and never looked back. I didn't know what I wanted to do for a major anyways. I was quite happy and not in the poor house, had worked 20 years so far towards a retirement, and had no intentions of looking for anything else. Date ended nicely...and then nothing. I saw him online later that week, said hi..and he said I was "nice but he wanted a female with a more girly job". (can't understand that..I think I'm girly even with my job..nails and hair are always done..lol) I was a little miffed, but laughed and said "ok....seeya". Was online a few months later..and he decided to pop up on my AIM and say hi. I asked how he was doing. He said "not good..I got laid off few weeks ago". I couldn't resist and said "hmm..guess my federal job isn't so bad after all, is it?". Mortgage paid, car in the garage, food in the fridge, clothes on my back, and no major debt. You should never judge anyone by what they do. Sometimes, they might be doing what they have to...or what they like to do. | |

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 8/3/2007 3:57:09 AM | | to me it doesn't matter what profession the guy has as long as it's an honest living and he can support himself.. i'm raising two kids of my own don't need to be supporting a full grown kid.. he does have to have goals in his life though.. as far as the going to school and not doing what you went to school for. oh well, atleast you have something to fall back on and that just means that you aren't stuck in a job that you don't really want to be doing. me for instance i went to school orginally for photography in hopes of one day having my own business. um yeah now i'm a CNA/CMA and going to nursing school next year. | |

And most police officers I have met are the biggest hypocrites (drink and drive, beat their partners, speeding, you name it)

|
| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 8:22:19 PM | There was an article some time back about a guy who was an inseminator for all the different kinds of animals in the zoo. Doesn't sound too good | |

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 8:43:32 PM | I would have some problems if I had to work with arms companies which make devices like landmines or made key components for nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
As for lawyers, I've met a few personally and generally they are decent, nice people. Lawyers who act unethically and criminally will be kicked out of the profession quite quickly. One of my parents was a lawyer and introduced me to the world of books and reading (to do law you need to be very good at both of these things) early, something I am very grateful for. I myself am studying law and I don't regard the profession as dishonourable. After all, without the rule of law there would be no justice, and without lawyers people often have fewer means to defend themselves against false accusations or charges or means of resolving legal disputes. Law also forms a key backbone to democratic society, just as does science and technology, politics, economics, the technical artisans, medicine, and other areas. Society needs all these people in their jobs to function, from the cleaner in the street to the engineer, doctor, politician, economist or scientist.
So long as someone makes a living which does not involve criminal activity or grossly unethical behaviour and practices, we have no right to judge them and scorn them.

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 8:45:18 PM | Funny but the some off the same ones that are a turn off are a turn on ;
Fireman , police man, and soldiers ( I don't date them as it would stress me out worrying about them on their job and whether they will live through it )
At the same time - thier dedication and selflessness and committment I find really attractive
Absolute turn offs; Garbage men?( is there such a thing these days ) Fish packing anything that brings home a smell I would hate or anything I would find morally corrupt.

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 9:03:36 PM | Interesting ... every guy i've ever dated since college was either in the military or ex military except one. Those who are no longer in the military are amazing professionals ... very successful and very intense Men. Some were Officers and some weren't and went to university right out of the military. Those Men are generally some of the most brave, fearless, selfless in the face of danger, loyal, faithful, and intelligent Men i've ever known. They all understood committment, integrity, and honor on a level that few people seem to these days. Now maybe i just got really really lucky ... but i'll go with a military guy over someone who has never made a committment to something more than Himself any day.

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 9:44:13 PM | In my experience every time I encountered someone who says is =turns out to be an therefore a turn off. Film Producer=scammer/con artist
Music producer=Bell Boy
Actor=waiter, unemployed or and stoner.
Consultant=Could mean anything and nothing(this are the guys who refuse to tell you what they do for a living but want to know your salary)
Lawyer=paranoid, neurotic, hypercritical
Real State Agent=Hangs out at starbucks all day long with his laptop
Personal trainer=wanna be actor /model
Independently wealthy=You'll pay for their dinner, because they always want proof you are not a gold digger. It just means they are unemployed.
Other "undatable" people: Cops: Will never trust you nor should you trust them
Manginas/stripper: Eww that's how they make a living!
Butcher:Just like the mechanics and the grease on their fingernails.
Used Car Salesman: Doesn't get any lower.
PE Teacher:Too lazy to teach regular classes, too lazy to put any effort into a relationship.
Guy who works at the make up counter at the mall=he doesn't know he is totally gay....yet!
Fly attendant guy: same as above

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 10:07:25 PM | I don't really understand why it should matter. Let's face it, we all say "Oh, I'd never date '--------' because of what they do for a living" but we all also know perfectly well that 'standards' such as these go right out the window the minute we see something we like. I mean, a lot of guys say "I wouldn't date a stripper because of...." Well, okay, that's what you say now and I even believe you mean it . That's right now though. If you meet a woman, hit it off, have instant chemistry, etc. and then find out she's a stripper, I'm willing to bet you'd find a way to rationalize why she's an exception to your rules.
About the only thing I'm absolutely certain I couldn't deal with is if she was currently working in front of the camera making porn.
Illegal activities and silly 'professions' (Yeah, like there are help wanted ads for axe murderers) don't count.
|
| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/23/2008 11:00:31 PM | Short of all the illegal occupations, I can't really say that I'd exclude any honest labour except possibly slaughterhouse workers.
Exposure to that much death on a daily basis would have to desensitize you to suffering.....
Just my $.02...... | |
