Wrong often you can tell a lot by a person,s profession. There personality ,interests, and financial all come out. My list of highest risk professions, law enforcement to arrogant and very masculine. Teachers are authoritarians and relationship dummies. Doctors arrogant and career stressed.Accountants very devius and cheap. The list continues.

OMG, I cannot believe what I'm reading. These generalizations are like a blind prejudice that have NO roots in reality!! Arrogance IS NOT job specific! Neither is cheapness or any of the other negative traits you list!!!

My profession (Navy Pilot) has a bad rap as well.

Quite honestly, from doing this job for going on 8 years now, and being a winged aviator for 6 of them, I don't see where we are any better or worse than guys our age. And the married guys in this field have done a lot less messing around than other guys that I know outside the field.

But, I have been told before "I don't date pilots, PERIOD"

I'm a bit more vitally interesting in their answer to the question, "What will you dress UP as when we role play?"

I trained as a librarian, which has a major geek factor attached to it. A couple of women told me they'd never have guessed I was a librarian, though, which I think was meant as a compliment.

An earlier post mentioned proctologists-hey, at least you don't have to worry about your bad breath after what he usually puts up with at work.

sales people (buncha bullshitters in bad suits)

hahah the stereotypes live..

IME, I would say that about most lawyers..bullshitters in bad suits (or even, good suits)

when the BS is flowing, not sure why the suit makes a big difference

most lawyers I've ever known ARE salespeople, trying to sell you on why you" need" their services..

Q: how do you know when a lawyer is lying?

A: his/her lips are moving..

but, in general I'm not sure you can always tell 'everything' about someone by their profession...possibly people in a 'boring' profession do more exciting things in their recreation time (think, Clark Kent type)

possibly those in more 'exciting' professions prefer to be as mellow as possible in their downtime?

just a thought

Pretty much none; people are more than what they do; for every profession you will have a thousand different personalities employed at it; who's to say "which" personality a potential date would have?

I see who a person is in their outlook, their passions in life, their communication style , their intelligence and sense of humor, and the twinkle in their eyes; not what tasks they do for pay to keep a roof over their head.

(btw I'm an accounting computer professional; and I can honestly say I am the least anal retentive person I have ever known and not even remotely cheap or dubious; though I am comfortable being considered a nerd; give me my thousand books and my sci fi and fantasy genres unapologetically) :)

From personal experience, I can say that telling a woman you are an experimental physicist is a good way to get her to stop talking. I really couldn't care less what a woman does unless she works for the GOP.

The only professions I'm somewhat biased against are:
-actors
-models
-TV Personalities

People in those fields seem to have a tendency for narcissistic and flaky behaviour.

But they're still better than someone who is unemployed with no plan... or their plan is to get a man to provide for them.

And I disagree with the Original Posters career turn offs:

strippers - I went to University with a couple of them... I find them to be smart, sharp and mentally tough. Disagree with me? Okay... YOU take your clothes off in front of a room of strangers, dance, and then solicit the crowd after for private dances. Most people wouldn't get past taking their clothes off. It takes inner strength to do what strippers do.
nurses' - same as strippers, but not as physically attractive
doctors - I don't see a problem with doctors.
dentists - same as doctors
factory labour - Nothing wrong with this... some are boring, but some then use their spare time for all their fun and creativity that's pent up inside them.
waitreses - Like strippers, they tend to be sharp and mentally tough.
sales people - It depends what they're selling...

My profession (Navy Pilot) has a bad rap as well.

Dunno - anyone who crashes planes on a postage stamp for a living - must be a bit touched in the head.
(Kidding with you - rock on. CV-60, CVN 67, 69 and 71. 10 years Navy, 10 Army)

I don't think I would exclude anyone that has an 'honest' job of any sorts - even if I didn't exactly agree with the profession as a whole. And by honest job - there are not specific criminal or civil statues that make your line of work illegal.

Perhaps I am turn off with a man that works on touching dead people , I was introduce to a man that works in mortuary, I did not shake hands with him , I pretended I was shy , his hands are very white and his personality gave me shivers.
