It's not the professions are a turn off, it's the people who are REPRESENTING those professions in negative ways.....

1) meter maids (bylaw officers) 2) security guards 3) realtors and/or stockbrokers

It's always seems like the fact that I'm an artist is a turn off. I have plenty of friends, but no one seems like they want to be anything more. It gets annoying....
maybe because so often the word artist is so frequently coupled with the word "starving" :)
(I think artists are amazing, don't let anyone get you down.

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 9:41:05 AM | | I didn't read everything here but I find this absolutely hilarious that people "don't like" salespeople.....think about it, Almost all of the chosen careers out there involve SALES. Every business SELLS something or offers a service but they have to SELL it to you in order for you to have it. I'm a realtor, in my job I don't have to sell the actual house to someone, the house does that itself...I sell me to them....if they like me we will work together to find a home for them, if they think that I'm not a fit for them then we go our separate ways and they find someone else they would like to work with....I have never in my 11 years of doing this lied to anyone to sell them a house or to get a paycheque, that would be career suicide!! I want them to be clients forever not just for that house so I 100% disagree with all these people that say salespeople are slimy, crooked and dishonest....some are, but they will never be as successful as they could be by doing it properly! | |

I agree....if we didn't have "artists" the world would be a very dark and lonely place....no art, no music, no concerts to go to, no radio, no TV...no people that show their exceptional talents in so many ways. I would honestly love to be so talented at something that I could show it off to the world!

Every business SELLS something or offers a service but they have to SELL it to you in order for you to have it.
depending on how you define it, most people 'sell' in one way or another.
a teacher 'sells' students on the idea it's important to learn something
a lawyer sells you on the idea that the will give you good service, may sell a judge &/or jury on a plausible story
a parent sells their kids on doing things
a suitor may sell the object of his affection on how he is good for her, or vice versa
etc., etc.
President Obama was just on TV selling the US public on his plan to get the economy recovered..big sales job!

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 12:50:14 PM | | Wow. I didn't read all 19 pages of this thread. But I read enough posts to realize that there are many generalizations on this thread. No job would be a turn off. I wouldn't make any judgments about a person based on their job. Provided that the job is legal and he makes enough money to support himself. | |

WOW, that's a great list of some of the most gifted and talented and smart people walking the earth...and they all turn you off???
I'm not sure what it takes to make some of you happy on here...clearly you are all very judgemental about being "turned off" by what someone chooses to do with their lives as a chosen profession.
I would think the only jobs that should turn people off would be the ones that aren't contributing anything positive to society and for the life of me I can't think of many if any jobs that don't fufill a need for SOMEONE
Open your minds people, give people a break and maybe try to see the positive in more things!! You'll be surprised how good it feels!

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 4:35:41 PM | Every profession has it's share of morons that give the good people a bad name.
And it's pretty hypocritical that probably every person that has listed "sales people" as a turn off would be the first to whine if there were no "sales people" to tell them about the new car, or computer or house or fridge or winter tires.
People in sales are there to provide us with services. So much the better if they're on commission because then I KNOW I can pick one that will have the product knowlege I need to make my own decision.
I can't think of any profession that is a turn off as long as it's legal. The fact that someone gets out of bed and contributes to the running of our society in their way works for me on all levels. The last man I fell in love with is a plumber.
People are people. The job doesn't define most of us.
Biggest turn off for me are people that mass generalize about something as changeable as a profession and gauge a person by the job they do instead of the person they are.

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 4:40:53 PM | What about journalists? Everyone seems to hate journalists. They're only just above used-car salesmen in the top 10 most hated professions list. Accountants dont seem the most exciting people to me, but dating one would come in handy at tax time. | |

Well alot of the guys on here are penis salesmen and the women arent buying. Therefore....the disdain for salemen.

Dude I can see that you just joined this forum. Her list is not the only such list in this thread by a dissatisfied woman who has an opinion about men they`ve never even met.
You see, on here a womans opinion = FACT, and if they are sure that a mans career means they have an overblown ego, arrogance, lack of compassion, or where they "crush" others on their way to the top, then thats the way they are. It doesnt matter that she`s never even been with them. She THINKS it, therefore, it IS. Keep reading threads in here, you`ll see the pattern.
Let me tell you shawney, there are women here who are too good for gawd himself. To them, he thinks he`s all that.

To be attracted to or succeed in most of the occupations listed a person often has the undesirable (to Annonimiss) personality traits listed. Although some of them are just bogglesome.

I don’t get the big hate on some have for salespeople either. Has one of them ever FORCED you against your will, to open up your wallet and buy what they’re selling? Perhaps what they really hate, is having their ignorance, gullibility and impulsiveness exposed at times. There’s a very effective cure for that.
OT: A profession that I would find a turn off is anything that took my sweetheart away from me for long periods of time. When I’m in a relationship I like to spend lots of time with that person. If I was going to be by myself a lot, I’d rather be single.

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 6:09:51 PM | | The only professions that turn me off are those men and women who take pride in not holding down a job. In a time when people are losing their jobs everyday. Anyone who can hold on to their jobs ( no matter what they do for a living) is an impressive person. | |

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 10:18:13 PM | | well, realtors are generally liars, so I count them number one, followed only by lawyers who are also liars, but have some ethical constraints within their profession, then you have the accountants, who never pay for their own mistakes. So, I'll date any body else that's basically honest and somewhat smart, not sure that exists. | |

| What professions are a turn off? Posted: 2/27/2009 11:05:38 PM | Well my career is listed many times on here as a "turn off", and I have been told that I can't be trusted etc.. Now when you know nothing for who I am nor, what my beliefs are that is a pretty bold statement.. My business supports my lifestyle, my daughters, and is not who I am but what I do, for a flow of income.. I don't ask people what they do for a living, doesn't matter.. I would rather let the person talk , that way after time I can tell what they stand for, what they believe in. Best relationship I have had was with a women who never asked what I did, being judged on who I was..
For fun read my profile, this is suppose to be fun, and for me it is..
