Band of Brothers is replete with scores of plagarism. Not trying to rain on your parade but Ambrose is a thief. Just Google Ambrose and Plagarism. I'm currently read an Ezra Pound book.

I have started on my huge pile of unread books.

Currently reading "Winter Solstice" by Rosamund Pilcher, which is actually a new book, my mother gave it to me for Christmas.

i have just finished reading the story of the children of the first women killed by the yorkshire ripper, said i wouldnt read anymore of the pity me books as they all start to sound the same however awful the story (and before i get my head bitten off for being heartless i do feel for these people but millions of people go through bad things in life and i dont wish to read about it any more)
but a friend gave me it to read and it wasnt just about abuse etc and just as i got to the end just after christmas i read that his sister had commited suiside, that made me cry because she had tried twice in the book and now even after all this time peter sutcliffe is still distroying lives.

so now im looking for a bit of light hearted reading if any recommendations

Light and fluffy reading - Any of the Shopaholic books by Sophie Kinsella, however the heroine does get a bit irritating after a while, and I far prefer the Undomestic Goddess book by the same author.

Chick lit that's not quite so fluffy - the Dorothy Koomson books, but they've all made me cry.

Cecilia Ahern - Goodbye I love you, recently made into a film but that made me cry too.

Lesley Pearse/Cathy Kelly - Great books, more of the sage type than chick lit, and not quite so fluffy, still made me cry, but I've come to the conclusion I'm just a bit of a wimp.

Barbara Erskine books - usually set in 2 timeperiods with crossover between the two, not for the very easily confused.

Get yourself onto Amazon - look up a couple of books you know you like and follow the links as to what other people are reading.

i had a book as a present yesterday, which i will read later today.

Don'ts for Wives - Blanche Ebbutt (circa 1913)

this is the preface..

Art is a hard mistress, and there is no art quite so hard as that of being a wife.

"So many women exhaust their artistic power in getting married, which is, after all, a comparatively easy business. It takes a perfect artist to remain married - married in the sense of the term; but most of us have to be content to muddle through.

Imagine a girl called upon without a single lesson to produce a tune - a lot of tunes - in fact, one never ending succession of harmonies - from the most difficult instrument in the world. Note that the instrument not only gets grumpy in the cold weather and skittish in the spring - not only slacks or breaks it's strings with every change of temperature - but becomes tempestuous over a tight shoe, broody over an out of date egg, and cross or sulky, or mirthful for reasons that no sane woman can understand.

That is what the average wife has to reckon with; and if she intends to play the game - humiliating as some may think it - HE will loom largely on the horizon all her life.

I hope she may find it worthwhile to take a few hints from an old hand."

this is just one of the tips that follow...

"Don't moralise by way of winning back the love that seems to be waning. Make yourself extra charming and arrange delicious dinners which include all your husband's favourite dishes"

Just finished "On The Edge" by Richard and Mindy Hammond... A damned good read - definitely recommended...

At the moment, I'm moving onto "The Last Fighting Tommy" - a biography of Harry Patch, the last survivor from the trenches...

After that, its probably going to be "Barefoot Soldier" - the autobiography of Johnson Beharry - a recent winner ofthe Victoria cross...

I read the last two books in the Demonata series by Darren Shan yesterday, my son got them for Christmas and Darren Shan is brilliant.

I think I will reread The Secret of Crickley Hall by James Herbert - I got that last Christmas, so haven't read it for a year

Have to look out for that one .. My old grandad used to tell me about the horrors of the war when I was a kid in the sixties - I didnt realise then what impact it must have had on him to be still talking about it fifty years later ... what must it have been like to have your 18th birthday on the Somme ... ?!

Right - currently I am reading Peter James , "Not Dead Enough" murder mystery ..

Quite.

From what I've read so far, it's a really interesting read. Bits of it are written by Harry Patch himself, but a lot of it is narrated. But to be fair - the guy is 108 years old!

Just reading the Sharon Osbourne autobiography and enjoying it tremendously...much to my surprise. Recently read Wolf of the Plains...fabulous book.

Kite Runner was the latest bust...could not bring myself to finish it. Not sure if I'll try and suffer thru the film....

If I can find it I'll read "The Clefts" by Doris Lessing, it's about a world with no men until a baby boy is born.

If I can't find it I'll read something else. I've got plenty to choose from.

Just finished The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly - he's so consistently good.

Just started Northern Lights by Philip Pullman - saw it in Tesco and couldn't resist after seeing a trailer for the Golden Compass.

Recently finished 'The curious incident of the dog in the night time'. It's written as the diary of an autistic teenager who investigates the 'murder' of a dog, seeks his lost Mum, and has a complicated relationship with his Dad.

The child, his perception of, and reaction to, the world are moving, thought-provoking and very funny.

I passed it on to my 13 year-old, who won't admit he enjoys it but is halfway through reading it already!

Done. Just finished Sniper One and the story of the Cimic House siege in Al Amarrah.

If only we were told more about the sacrifices of our men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan and less about the Spice Girls....
