| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/4/2006 1:02:15 AM | Yeah I have found the cd out on the torrents and have heard it streamed on a few web-radio stations.
I definately enjoyed it but I cannot wait to have the cd, as the artwork is always so kewl for the cd sleeve and the like, plus I need to support my bands, I just cannot wait on their schedule hehe

It's going to be good. I heard a rumour about a year ago that Maynard went all Christian and that Tool might not make another album. But, hizzah, for the new one. Pretty damn pumped about it.
i can't see that being true. The song Judith was written about how he couldn't understand his paralyzed mother's faith in christianity
"Praise the one who left you Broken down and paralyzed"
"He did this Took all you had and Left you this way Still you pray, you never stray Never taste of the fruit You never thought to question why "
....most of you probably knew this but thought i'd share anyway.
But I'm pumped about 10,000 days, long overdue album that is sure to not disappoint!

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/5/2006 2:15:47 PM | | Yeah, the "born again" rumour started about a year ago. So well after Judith. Listening to Opiate, it doesn't seem like he has too much love for organized religion at all. Sad thing is, I believed it when I first heard it. I guess they are the band most rumoured to break up at any given moment. I think it's just them screwing with us. Like putting a ringing phone in Opiate. I've fallen for it a couple of times. Buggers. | |

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/6/2006 2:31:01 PM | | Probably their best cover yet. Still can't really tell what it's all about until you get it. A flat picture never shows what the sleeve is like. | |
|
| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/7/2006 5:22:16 AM | whenever i look at the album cover, i can't help but be reminded of that thing in the simpsons that mr. burns had given to bart, the giant statue head thing. but i bet that cover pic is gonna be really cool when you look at it and can pick out the detail. | |

B Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and call BS on this. I highly doubted it was true when you posted a while back and now after doing a bunch of reading the past few days I'm convinced you're full of it. You might have heard something but it sure as hell wasn't the new album.

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/17/2006 12:26:22 AM | I don't want to suggest that I support the illegal distribution of the single...but i've seen the video from a nameless yet very accessible website that shows music video's...although im not completely convinced that this is the actual final video...underneath it says: "NOT the actual Promo clip." I don't know exactly what that means...but its out there....
oh...and of course...the song fukking smokes!!! rtc013, you're correct, the single has been leaked. I found it on DC++ and I am really liking it and can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks. It clocks in at around 7 minutes 5 seconds long. The musical style of Vicarious sounds as if it could have come off of Lateralus. The first thing I noticed is that Maynard's voice sounds different than all the other albums...not sure if it's his singing style, recording technique or a combo of both.
Vicarious lyrics:
I own the TV 'cause tragedy thrills me Whatever flavor It happens to be
Like: "Killed by the husband" "Drowned by the ocean" "Shot by his own son" "She used the poison in his tea and kissed him goodbye" That's my kind of story It's no fun til someone dies
Don't look me at like I am a monster Frown out your one face But with the other Stare like a junkie Into the TV Stare like a zombie While the mother, holds her child Watches him die Hands to the sky cryin, "Why, oh why?"
Cause I need to watch things die From a distance Vicariously, I Live while the whole world dies You all need it too - don't lie.
Why can't we just admit it? Why can't we just admit it? We won't give pause until the blood is flowin' Neither the brave nor bold Will write us the story so We won't give pause until the blood is flowin'
I need to watch things die From a good safe distance Vicariously, I Live while the whole world dies You all feel the same so Why can't we just admit it?
Blood like rain fallin' down Drown on grave and ground
Part vampire Part warrior Carnivore and voyeur Still have the transmittal, sing to the death rattle
La, la, la, la, la, la, la-lie (x4)
Credulous at best Your desire to believe in Angels in the hearts of men. But pull your head on out Your head please and give a listen Shouldn't have to say it all again
The universe is hostile So impersonal Devour to survive So it is, so it's always been ...
We all feed on tragedy It's like blood to a vampire
Vicariously, I Live while the whole world dies Much better you than I.

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/17/2006 10:01:51 PM | afterimage - great ears man! (assuming you figured the lyrics out yourself of course...)
ps - its Maynard's b-day today (April 17th). Please join me in raising your beverage of choice in honour of his 42nd year. IMO, his is by far the most insightful lyricist and singer (^^^lyrics to Vicarious are a prime example) out there right now.
shameless self promotion - i passed my thesis defense today...i finally got my master's degree

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/17/2006 10:23:58 PM | took a few listens to Vicarious today...I'm very excited! Intense ending to that tune...and some riffing from Adam that seems uncharacteristic of him...almost Frippish....
....not gonna play it again until it's on my stereo...don't want to kill the tune...
....great lyrics...nice change of pace for maynard...assuming it's gonna be another "themed" album...can't wait to hear the rest of them....
...Belew's album out tomorrow!!!! sure hope I can find it in the stores...can't get enough of Danny Carey's madness!!!!

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/22/2006 5:06:34 PM | The album is incredible!
You can really hear the influence that the band Meshugga had on Tool when they toured together.
if anyone has bit torrent software, then the album shouldn't be too hard to find ;)

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 4/30/2006 10:59:17 PM | so...i was listening to Vicarious again for the 200th time i think...and a thought occured to me as i was listening to the intro...specifically where it sounds like an alarm clock ringing...anyone know what i'm talking about? (listen at about 20 and 40 sec. into the song)
anyway...i was wondering if this was the recurrance of a theme TOOL is using...i wonder this because near the end of the song Opiate there is the sound of an alarm clock ringing and I read from somewhere that it was purposely put in there to symbolize trying to tell society to "wake up" from its slumber and to get people to think to themselves more...
are they trying to use the same theme in Vicarious?
thoughts/opinions anyone???
ps - its a day and a half away...

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 5/1/2006 10:39:52 PM | I just picked up "10, 000 Days" at a midnight selling, and am listening to it right now. It definitely wasn't what I expected but that's one of the things I've always loved, and respected about Tool: they are always daring, and trying new things and this record is no different.
It actually reminds me of Isis in some places where the vocals are modified in some way, and mixed behind the instruments. Some of the song compositions really remind me of both Isis, and Mesuggah in that they seem to grow, brood and germinate right in front of you.
I'm definitely liking what I've heard so far.
P.S. And the artwork is actually mind blowing...

| new TOOL album - 10 000 Days Posted: 5/4/2006 2:35:34 PM | | The Pot is amazing. I always thought that Justin Chancellor was an able bassist. Sure he was good, but I thought nothing more. But on this album, he really shines. Especially on The Pot. Maynard switching it up a bit at the beginning was interesting as well. I didn't even think it was him. Killer tune though. Definitely my favourite...for now. It'll change I'm sure. | |
