| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 3/13/2006 3:24:14 AM | If your right ArchDemon, then I'm being lied to by every girl/women in my life. Could be actually, I never considered that hehe.
The majority of females I know (and have spoken more than twice with) are into Sci-Fi, Horror, and assorted games. I consider myself a complete geek, and I've been put to geek shame many a time by girls.

Every girl here is lying.
No woman ever games or watches anything other than chick flicks.
Men - you are being fooled.
Trust me on this. They are all lying.
You don't know me, so I suggest you NOT sit there typing about how I (and other women) are lying about what they like. I have shelves and shelves of books and movies that prove you're talking out of your a$$.

Very few people my age do so I took them out of my interests. I prefer reading to movies, and open ended computer games like Sims and Second Life, although I do play some other RPG types on a PS.
Besides, all those activities are more solitary and don't add much to a relationship, other than knowing you both like them. I mean how atractive is a person sitting at a computer? They aren't paying attention to you.
I don't read self help books or watch Lifetime either.
Just because someone is different from you doesn't mean it can't work.
Synical had a point...I wouldn't date a guy still living with his ex.

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 3/13/2006 11:34:15 AM | The OP wasn’t too clear on the degree of fandom, but I’m a huge science fiction fan (not into horror or gaming, though); a second generation Sci-Fi chick. My parents have always been fans, in fact, they had a huge poster of Boba Fett in their bedroom when I was growing up, one among many “home décor” items.
I see a lot of “I’m so into sci-fi! I just love The Matrix!” Tons of people love science fiction movies, that doesn’t make them a geek/nerd in my book. I watch more than the movies; I have a collection of first edition books by my favorite authors that has taken years to accumulate. And not only am I fan of science fiction/fantasy literature, I get weirder: I’ve been to cons, I’ve dressed up in costumes, I was in the Sci-Fi club in high school, almost all the shows I watch on TV are on the Sci-Fi channel. That’s right I’m one of those , not somebody who thinks watching block buster movies makes me a Sci-Fi geek.
Of course, this doesn’t get you laid, so yes, I think a lot of chicks hide it from anyone other than their close friends. But we’re out there, you just need to find us.

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 3/13/2006 5:28:22 PM | I've been reading science fiction and fantasy since I was 16...and that's been a while. I started with Isaac Assimov, Ursula LeGuin, and Arthur Clarke. I moved on to Frank Herbert, Ray Bradbury, Terry Anderson, Dean Koontz (loved The Taking) and Terry Brooks and the Sword of Shannara series. I watched Star Trek, Time Tunnel (I'm dating myself here LOL), Lost in Space, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and all the cheesy Japanese monster movies I could handle with my Dad on Saturday mornings. I am constantly increasing my DVD collection of sci-fi/fantasy movies, and just recently noticed that "The Day the Earth Stood Still" in a local store on DVD now. You can get away with most anything as a writer of science fiction, because it is just that....fiction. I love the stuff! | |

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 3/14/2006 10:55:59 PM | I love horror, I want to change my middle name to horror. Im a horror movie fan, a horror gaming fan and...maybe even a horror music fan? possibly? i dunno?
Zombie movies are my personal favorite, I place them on a pedestal above all others, everything from the classics, such as dawn of the dead and night of the living dead, to modern day shaun of the dead and land of the dead...and even cheesy, somewhat obscure craptastic films such as tombs of the blind dead and undead. ****ing yeah. Other horror movies sit nice with me as well, such gems as the last house on the left, rosemary's baby, creepshow, stir of echoes, house of 1000 corpses. I also really enjoy Japanese horror films, I have started renting more and more of them, I would say they surpass american horror films by fear factor alone.
Im a huge survival horror fan, I truly believe the best game series to ever exist would have to be the Silent Hill series (they are releasing a Silent Hill movie very shortly, hooray!! The trailer looks excellent, and you cant say that about many video games turned horror movie *coughresidentevildoomcough*). I am the biggest Silent Hill fangirl I know anyways, I could play Silent Hill all day and all not and still not lose my intense romantic feelings towards it. The Resident Evil series has its moments, it becomes extremely repetitive and you lose track of how many actually exist...but I think RE4 is absolutely fantastic, I love the new format, its a welcome change. Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil: Dead Aim are also among my list of favorites in the series. As for other games, I am a huge fan of the Kings Quest series for PC by Sierra, as well as the Leisure Suit Larry series...some of the best adventure games to ever be designed imho. Other games I play often would be Harvest Moon, Indigo Prophecy (very interesting and entertaining game!!), GTA series, Animal Crossing, Mafia, The Getaway, Crimson Skies...you get my drift.
Yeahhhh | |

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 3/16/2006 12:34:46 PM | | well i'm not exactly what most would call a "pretty girl" but i love horror movies and heavy metal more than most men do. at least most men around here anyway...but even alot of men online, it's hard to find ones that are as into metal/horror as i am. most of them seem to like comedy(which i like comedy too) or action movies and country or rap music(i hate both of those genres of music). but anyway, i'm obsessed with horror movies. with the exception of a few comedies, horror is just about all i watch. i want to write, make, & act in horror movies. | |

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 4/10/2006 3:22:59 PM | Well, despite the doubts by some of the guys out there, I am one of those female sci fi fans, books, movies or tv series. I will even still watch reruns of the original star trek series. Stargate sg-1, BG, and SA, are my favorite series. I have not had a chance to see the new Dr. Who playing yet. Is it any good?
My only issue is that with all the great sci fi books out there, why don't they come out with any original movies anymore.

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 4/12/2006 10:30:16 AM | I am a girly-girl. I have more shoes than I can count, lots of dresses and clothes, like makeup and doing my hair, and I'm a flirt.
However, I am also a HUGE horror fan, and have my share of scifi obsessions too. I also love the really campy stuff! (Slither kicked f*cking a$$!!!!!)
Its certainly not just a guy thing, as I have lots of girlfriends who are really into stuff like that too. Maybe you're just dating the wrong women?

| Is sci fi fantasy and horror more a guy thing or the women out there hiding Posted: 5/15/2006 6:20:46 PM | I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with the firefly series, they made a movie after Fox canceled the season cause they ****ed it up, im a little bitter...but the movie was Serenity. Yep, such a shame it was cancelled it was a good show. I haven't seen the movie yet though.
I like sci-fi and love zombie movies and other horror movies. I'm not into the spoof ones like scream though.
My ex was really into PC gaming so I used Quake 2/3 as a means to communicate with him . I'm not much into it now though.
I once got drunk aboard the space ship Lexx.....long story.
