| Is it true what is said about southern women? Posted: 8/5/2006 8:01:02 AM | | I was born in the north, raised in Florida. I took pride in being from the most southern state in the continental USA! Most people there arent natives, and Florida hasnt really been considered a "southern" state, as southerness goes, but did yall know that Florida was involved in the civil war, fighting with the south, and it and Texas were the only 2 states that the yankees DIDNT beat? They couldnt handle those seminoles!!!!! I moved out of florida, for many reasons, one being that there are alot of tourists from the north, and many of them are so ungrateful, unaprecciative pretentious jerks. Especially the ones with New York tags. Since I have moved to Georgia in 1989, there has been nothing but good people here, that made me feel like I grew up here. I wouldnt trade southern women for anything ! They are the best! | |

I don't really hear myself talking, so I don't know, but I have been told that my accent is too Southern to be Southern....y'all!! Like I come from Georgia or something, which is an ok thing too, but I'm glad I'm from Florida! But most think mine is very nice. Thank ya!

Not from a box, not from a recipe book (unless it is Granny's!) and not from some damn cooking show. That's the way we were raised and it's how we teach our daughters! Southern: sweet, independent, mannered and damn smart too. Sometimes we cuss! lol If provoked, of course.

When we sit on our porches.. we can make the choice of a beer, bourbon.. or iced tea!!!

" Gentlemen ".....I have been in Georgia all my life. Have also had a few that has said huh? when I speak..Our Mothers are call " mama".. and Fathers are called. " daddy". Breakfast is always a big meal. Like grits and gravy , with ham or bacon and always have the egg and biscuits. Dinner is usually large also , espically on Sunday.. 'supper" usually is fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy , of course you have to have the biscuits.. Nearly eveyone has a freezer in which we put all those good veggies in.. Now I know the South has it's on way of doin thangs.and saying's.. just like Atlanta is pronunced " Lan-uh." Savannah is "Sir-van-ner." Pecans isn't Pe-cons.. it is " pe-cans ". Onions ( I am from Toombs Couty , ya know "Vi-day-ya" )anyhow they are " un-yuns " Got lots more of'um too... .. oh here is a nutter one.. not fishing it is " fish-in"

| Is it true what is said about southern women? Posted: 9/18/2006 7:02:25 PM | Let me tell you something, I have never been so upset with anyone in life with another person in my life! That is a nice thing to say! We are not mules and either jackasses, horses, or wolfs. We are human beings, city or country! We do have running water in our homes, and are very dignified. If it was not for farm and the country, what in the hell would you eat? Even if it comes from a can, it's grown on a farm in the country. And I don't live like an animal! Thank you very much. | |

| Is it true what is said about southern women? Posted: 9/19/2006 7:17:44 AM | I am born and raised in Georgia. I, myself do not think I have an accent but when I visit my relatives up on Conn. everyone there says I do. I guess its just what your used to. The only think that makes me mad is that people who are not used to a southern accent think we sound ignorant. Or is that just me? | |

| Is it true what is said about southern women? Posted: 9/19/2006 8:10:10 AM | I am confused. The OP made a general statement, and has subsequently disappeared. What is everyone saying about southern women? I was born in Georgia, moved around (military) til I was 11, and have since been living here. I like the south, and all it has to offer. I find myself attracted to the dialects of the mid-west and Canada,,,something about the crispness of the accent and the way they enunciate their words. Don't get me wrong-- there is NOTHING wrong with a southern accent. And it is true about MOST southern women being able to cook. My mom and grandmother were phenomenal (mom still is), and they taught me. Most YOUNGER southern women are losing their touch in the kitchen, but for the most part, it is an art-form that will live forever. I love food, so as long as you know what you are doing in the kitchen, I don't care WHERE you are from.

| Is it true what is said about southern women? Posted: 9/19/2006 10:22:12 AM | HEAR HEAR BLU... I DO AGREE younger southern women are not haveing the desire to learn and southern cooking is an art it will always be a tradition for a true southerner but the young generation has lost the desire for the most part ... and also I have to agree if you know what you are doing in the kitchen it wont matter where you are from or where you live
