Actually i am just curious how many so called gun advocates would be brave enough to kill or try to kill someone up and close with their bare hands and how many would be capable

its easy to be removed from the act when it is done from a distance hidden behind a tree, bush whatever --- but really if you had to rely solely on your own body and minds ability to defend yourself and end another persons life or loose yours ? Could you tear out a mans windpipe with your bare hands ? Drive the cartlidge of his nose up into his brain

yes many can and are trained to do so -- and generally these are the types that would rather run then fight - why because killing with your bare hands i believe would be a very traumatic experience - these that can do it need not prove it or try to show it off - unlike those with guns in pictures or screaming we have the right to arm our bears to shoot the rangers blah blah blah

Lets see people with guns in pics and people like ben ( you can take my gun from my dead a*** where i keep it for safety ) -- small insignificant cowards that need a weapon to feel better about themselves

keep a gun for your own safety --- yeah so what to do when you have someone sneak up behind you and pull a trigger and blow the back of your skull off --- your gun didnt warn you they were comming from behind you did they ?

Live by the gun - you will die by the gun.

Texas isn't that the state with a jailed on parole adult male populous of between 20-25% and the lowest highschool scores in standardized testing? Just asking as it does relate to the only people of a certain intelligence should own firearms thing, wlthough you do have more open space than some area so more choice in locales to shoot that wouldn't end up lobbing shells into some kids playground.

Texas is the state were the Luby's Restaurant massacre occurred, Texas law prevented law abiding gun owners from stopping the massacre. The perpetrator being a violent criminal didn't much give a damned about restrictive gun laws and therefore was at a distinct advantage over the unarmed patrons...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luby's_massacre

On October 16, 1991 in Killeen, Texas, a man named George Hennard drove his 1987 Ford Ranger truck into a Luby's Restaurant in Killeen Texas, yelled "This is what Bell County has done to me!" then opened fire with a Glock 17 and later a Ruger P-89, and then opened fire on the restaurant's patrons and staff. He killed 23 people and wounded 20 before he killed himself. Only the work of a large man breaking through a window allowed the rest of the patrons to escape. One noted exception was a mother and her 4 year old child which Hennard allowed to leave. Though Heenard was shot several times by police only when he ran out of victims did Hennard walk to the rear of the seating area and take his own life with a gunshot to the head.

It should be noted that many of the patrons, such as Suzanna Hupp, had firearms in their vehicles but by law were not allowed to carry them on their person. Survivors and family of the victims, with the help of the media, were successful in moving lawmakers to consider the concept of conceal carry permits for citizens. As a direct result of this massacre, in 1995 Texas lawmakers, led by Suzanna Gratia Hupp (whose parents were both killed in the massacre), passed a law that allowed Texas citizens to obtain a concealed carry handgun permit in part as a reaction against the massacre. Soon after many states considered similar weapon permits for lawful citizens.

CC laws are the right thing to do, there is no good reason whatsoever to not allow otherwise honest law-abiding competent citizens to carry concealed weapons.

There was absolutely no need for Suzanna Hupp to have to watch her mother and father get shot and bleed out on the floor as she cowered in fear for her own life. Had she been allowed to carry the firearm that she left out in her car, being the law abiding citizen she is, she could of dropped that motherfuker like a rock and prevented many of the deaths and injuries that occurred that day. So could many of the other law-abiding patrons who had guns out in their cars that day, if only the law allowed them to carry.

I hope you don't believe that had Texas not passed a CC bill the law-abiding citizens of Texas would be safer today from those 20-25% (unverified by me) of the population who are criminals on parole?

This statement of hers is so very sad...

http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/nation/guns/part2/gunside1.html

LAMPASAS -- Suzanna Gratia Hupp remembers reaching for a butter knife as a madman shot her parents dead at a packed cafeteria one cold October day in 1991.

"I was looking for a weapon, any weapon, because my handgun was 100 feet away, outside in my car. I made an incredibly stupid decision to follow the law, and that cost my family's lives," she says as she reflects on the massacre that ended with 24 people dead inside the Luby's Cafeteria at Killeen, a military town in Central Texas.

Now this is hard story to read... it's Barbara Nite's account of what she lived through that day, and her friend didn't.

http://www.texasmonthly.com/mag/issues/2002-07-01/crime3.php

Getting Shot: My friend and I were at the Luby's in Killeen when George Hennard crashed his pickup through the window and started shooting. I survived. She didn't.

IT WAS OCTOBER 16, 1991, a beautiful, sunshiny fall day. Kitty Davis and I were meeting about eight friends who worked at the Fort Hood dental clinic for lunch. Kitty and I had recently retired from the clinic...

Talk about misconstrued. And yes I would be safer in anyplace where every Tom****and Harry don't pack heat. (Tom might be reasonable and responsible, but****is a hothead, and Harry is just not very bright)

Sad as that story is it does not back your point. That is like saying it would be a good idea to start arming school children at 13 and have them CC at school incase there is another Columbine. Instead of addressing how the unstable freaks that were a problem got their hands on their weapons in the first place. Besides that is clearly a story using anothers tragedy to further political agenda.

Firearms have a place in our culture, historically, and for sport. That still does not mean that every idiot on the street deserves the "right" to own them. The same arguement if applied to automobiles I doubt would get asmuch opposition, face it some people just cannot drive and would pose too much risk to others if their "right" to get behind a wheel is to outweigh my right to not get runover when out walking my dog.

Getting Shot: My friend and I were at the Luby's in Killeen when George Hennard crashed his pickup through the window and started shooting. I survived. She didn't.
So then if this friend was killed by the crashing vehicle I am supposed to believe that a piddly little sidearm would have helped in anyway, especially in the hands of a civilian that may have had only minimal training?

That aside I understand the urge to share articles but I don't think we are allowed to use full URL's in here, and I fail to see how a shooting in Texas related to guys posing for profile pictures with guns.

I re-iterate, those avid sportsmen, or people that require them and have an "on the job" photo have a valid reason to do so. But should be prepared to get fewer responses simply because some will having had bad experiences with firearms in their past be less willing to risk repeats and learn that THAT individual is responsible in use and storage.
The wannabe gangsta types though .... reek of pathetic immaturity

Wow, this thread has wound its way through many topics! CCW permit holder, gun owner, hunter, and responsible guy. If thats a problem for a woman, then I guess the potential for great times are slim. No hate, malcontent, or disdain, just different stuff for different people!

Lovelyblonde,
A great reason not to live there (UK). Parlament votes them out of existence and you law abiding citizens have to turn them in, without even a vote on it. As a gun owner, I do tell a date up front that I not only own but carry one with a permit to do so. If she can't accept it, she's gone, period, a relationship would never exist. For me a gun is for sport or defense, not ego. I've always been intrigued by the different types, functions, evolutions, etc. If they would outlaw elephant ears in the UK, Prince Charles would be banned.

i like a man with a gun. just know how to use it, care for it, and have a permit for it. no 'saturday nite specials' please! i don't need to see it in your pic though, that is tacky. that's kinda like posing with your 'little buddy', don't chya think? and if we were a good couple, then i would expect you to take me to target practice and teach me how to care for the gun as well. (i would also ask santa for my own come christmas - i'd like a baby pink 9 mil with a clip.lol) i believe in guns for protection/defense..................oh. and if i had to, i would have no problem attempting to kill someone with my bare hands, a knife, baseball bat, toaster, hair spray & a bic lighter, high heeled shoe, whatever i had at hand. if there's no option, then there's just no option. (not kill for the fun of it, ok? no hate mail please!)

If a guy says he has guns, he'd better be talking about his biceps....definately not for me. Espcailly is they choose to promote it in their profile, I would assume hunting or guns is a big part of their lifestyle. I may be a city girl with a little bit of country, but I could not sleep in a house with guns in it. I've never even seen a real gun before (except on TV and on a police officer, from a distance).

*Steven02151 - Because a REAL MAN always kills something for the one he loves, thats why ... *

i would rather my boyfriend take me out to a restuarant - simple, civilaised and clean, rather than hunting down a bird, killing it, then saying that he did that for me, so primitive, and if he needed to kill something i dont think a****oach required a gun to handle it? plus my house dont really a constant supply of****oaches for someone who need to be "always killing something"?

I dont think there is necessarily anything wrong with a guy who has a license to carry a weapon. Guns dont scare me. However, if in their profile the man is holding the gun, I would laugh and click off his profile as fast as I could. If he is that warped that him holding a gun in a pic is going to somehow make him attractive or macho, then no, who would want him. I want a man for who he is not what he packs!

NO NO NONO NO

A real man will only resort to killing as a last measure to protect the ones he loves.

And I still say a real man will use only what God gave him - his own physical and mental strength

if i thought i could save my real man from having to kill someone with their bare hands, i'd shoot the perp myself..................it's just a safety issue - if someone is that close to you, your chances of survival are getting pretty slim - and it's just like my grammy always said "never take a knife to a gun fight".............................. guns don't kill people. people who pull the trigger kill people. and i want a man that will pull the trigger when it's necessary. and what if the bad guy decides to cheat and use a little something more than what god gave him? that's the thing with criminals. they never like to play fair.

Sunbirdus then you were talking to some real ding dongs LOL Sorry to say. or you were taking there pcitures as bieng macho when they were not? It is not about being macho, it is about feeding your family without having to eat all the crap that gets put into the food stream nowadays, and what I stated in my prior post. I prefer wild meat myself and was much healthier when I ate wild meat instead of store bought. But yes that is offtopic, where is that frying pan again lol?

If "real man" is a euphemism for a dumbass that takes unnecessary risks with his life because it's the only macho course of action to take when confronted with an unavoidable bad situation - then yes I agree with you wholeheartedly.

But to answer your question. Yes of course, if I don't have anything but my bare hands to kill you with then I don't have any qualms about making it very up close and personal if I have to kill you. My life is priceless and I will defend it to the bitter end. Lawyers and therapy are relatively cheap in comparison to such a loss.

I don't very know many people in this world that would answer "No I could never do something like that! I'd prefer to die cowering like a scared little bleating lamb waiting to be slaughtered!"

As for reliance on what "gods given" - god's given us a far more powerful weapon then your brawny muscles. It's called the human brain. We use it to smelt metal, make gun powder, and build guns that we can use to just shoot your brawny muscular butt to death with...

As you seem to be afraid of confronting a man who might own a gun, despite all your "god given" brawn and machismo, I'd suggest you might want stay out of the USA.

btw when did god start dealing steriods I missed the memo on that one. /jk lol

yes many can and are trained to do so -- and generally these are the types that would rather run then fight - why because killing with your bare hands i believe would be a very traumatic experience - these that can do it need not prove it or try to show it off - unlike those with guns in pictures or screaming we have the right to arm our bears to shoot the rangers blah blah blah

I agree the sensible ones would rather avoid the situation entirely no matter how the killing must be done. I think showing off your gun is a stupid thing to do. The best weapon is the one they don't know you have until your ready to use it to defend your own life. I do believe getting murdered must be a rather traumatic experience as well - so hey what the hell I may as well traumatize myself killing the sob at least it's on my own terms. lol

Lets see people with guns in pics and people like ben ( you can take my gun from my dead a*** where i keep it for safety ) -- small insignificant cowards that need a weapon to feel better about themselves

Same could be said of men that spend a large amount of their time in the gym bulking up. What do they really need those perfectly ripped muscles for in todays world. Do you feel better about yourself being as you can physical intimidate less significant men? Does the fact they might own a gun ruin the machismo fun factor of using you "god given" talent to intimidate them? lol

keep a gun for your own safety --- yeah so what to do when you have someone sneak up behind you and pull a trigger and blow the back of your skull off --- your gun didnt warn you they were comming from behind you did they ?

so let me get this straight. All that working out at the gym you do is going stop this from happening to you? What about when that other ripped guy in your gun-less society quietly walks up behind you and commando style snaps you neck like a twig? Oops your muscles didn't warn you that was coming did they?

i have a gun and i'm proud of it. it's nothing big.........a small taurus .22lr that's kept unlocked, c*cked and ready to go. i'm also in the process of applying for my permit to carry. i wouldn't use it on anyone unless they are trying to harm me in any way, shape, or form...or if my trailer is being burglarized, then he (they) better watch out or he's gonna have one hell of a pain in the a$$. i'm also in the process of buying either a 30/30 or a 270 so i can learn how to hunt with. i really enjoy taking my gun out up into the mountains and just firing it off at targets (not that good anymore) but just practicing. my gun is clean, registered, and known to others as my means of protection. i would never use it to hurt anyone or anything unless it's really needed or i'm hunting.

so, guys with guns..........take me out shooting with you, i'm not afraid. it's not the gun to be afraid of it's the person behind the gun. just remember.....guns don't kill people, people kill people since it is a person pulling the trigger of the gun.

My ex was not crazy about guns, but I made sure she got her permit to carry, and several firearms, but when I told her to pick out a long gun, she chose one that she said was very "pretty", it was a AK 47! I understand why many people are against firearms, but it's the people not the gun. My mother was murdered, beat up, stabbed multiple times, run over with her own car and left to die on a lonely back road. If she would have had a firearm she would have had a chance, if they would have used her own firearm against her, it would have been more humane. I pray often for the 2 men that killed her as well as their families, they also were victims! Also when I was going to scool we kept our shotguns in our lockers so we could go duck hunting just after school before it got dark.
P.S. After my ex was armed and dangerous, I always made sure that she got plenty of flowers and cards!
