If you do decide to go on a new release day to Best Buy make sure you are not easily scared of people!

I went on the morning of the release for Sin City and the whole staff was there at the front of the store as the doors opened and applauded all the customers coming in! When I get really embarrased my eyes water and I turn red. I felt like the biggest skid walking in there and having nowhere to hide!!

I would never recommend Future Shop or Best Buy. Though they may have good prices, the customer service is terrible.
They do not service any products themselves. They strictly deal in depot repairs, which releases them from much of the responsibities to their customers. When you have a problem, whether you bought the extended warranty or not, they shift your complaints off to a secondary company. Now should you have a problem with whoever the decide gets to service your item, Future Shop can not help you because they (service depot) are an independant company. I am a former Future Shop employee, and have been a dissatisfied Future Shop customer and I would not purchase a CD from them.
For just the level of service alone, I do most of my shopping at Sears, or The Brick. Both are Canadian owed, and both have their own service centres.

no FVCKEN CUSTOMER SERVICE at Future Shop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This laptop came from Future Shop, but it wasn't the one I bought.

I bought a nice HP that was on sale, one was on display, but none in the storeroom. So I paid, in full, for one to come from another city, arriving in five days.

I was excited on pickup day, but arrived to find out the laptop did not arrive.

Then, I was told it was no longer available, so either I could get a refund, or upgrade to an in-stock HP, or switch to a similar Toshiba product. (not the same at all! )

I said NO ! I bought this model, paid for it, was promised it and I wanted the damn thing, or else THEY can upgrade me to the next model in HP. They told me that was impossible and asked for my receipt.

Then they told me, they will have to give me a refund, as I had only bought the other laptop on LAYAWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was stamped across the receipt they had given me, unknown to me ! They had actually folded the receipt before giving it to me, and I had no reason to examine it.

I said NO, I bought and paid for a computer, in stock at another store and either I get that computer or a better one in the same make and model HP.

Then, some salesperson, stood there, arguing and insisting I have to buy the Toshiba(on sale that week, for the same price, or pay to upgrade .... blah blah blah....

Lucky for me, it was around noon on a Saturday and the place was full of customers. I finally had to tell this sales man to "Fvuck off, and upgrade me in the same computer, no matter if it was twice the value, and I am NOT leaving until I have a laptop, which I paid for !"

In about ten minutes, someone handed me the carton, a new receipt and didn't even try to sell me their inflated extended warrantee ! I hope to hell, the hardrive or any other componet either fails before the end of the factory warrantee, or it lasts forever.

no FVCKEN CUSTOMER SERVICE at Future Shop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Home theatre? 2001 Audio Video, since they will at least beat FS or BB on the price, even if you just tell them you can get a better deal.

Computers? None of them. You'll always find a better deal at a local shop, plus the people there tend to know what they're talking about.

Appliances? Leons or the Brick, maybe Sears, waiting for a sale of course. FS and BB often have the same or similar stuff, but their prices are usually at least 5% higher.

The only thing I ever find FS or BB good for is sales on DVD media (Fujifilm), dvd/bd/hd players when they're on sale, and small electronics like phones, again only when they're on sale. Otherwise, the sales people are annoying, and they'll fight tooth and nail to avoid honouring a warantee.

I've never shopped at Best Buy, but I love Future Shop. Their extended warranty service is excellent, from what I have experienced when a cd player crapped out on me. They replaced it with a one that was 4 times faster than the original. I've also had friends who needed to use the extended warranty and had the same great service.

A couple months ago, my hdd died. Took the computer to FS and they said it would cost $240 to buy a new one and have it put in. They gave me the option to buy a demo model computer for $199, which of course, I took. They told me a keyboard and mouse was included but in the flurry of getting the computer etc., I forgot to ask for it before leaving. Phoned and asked if a friend could pick it up as I don't get to the city often. When she went, nobody knew anything about it so I called again and talked to a supervisor who said he would set one aside. I ended up having to go to the city anyway, so I popped in to pick it up. Nothing set aside, I was also buying the extended warranty (by this time it was over two weeks since I bought the computer). Cashier went to get manager to ask about the keyboard and mouse since the person who said he'd put it aside wasn't there, the manager turned out to be the guy who sold me the computer, he gave me a Dynex keyboard and mouse, a $30 value, for a penny. You cannot beat the deal I got from them.

I don't know why others have had such bad service from them, perhaps it may depend where you are? Maybe the Kingston store is exceptionally good? Whatever the reason, I have no problem with them and would shop there again. Walmart may be a bit cheaper but you get what you pay for. If anything goes wrong, you have to send it back to the manufacturer. With FS's extended warranty, you just take it in to the store. That's worth a few extra dollars to me.

Didn't you say the keyboard and mouse were supposed to be included. They forgot to give you the items on your original visit, so your friend and you both made special visits back before you got the keyboard and mouse. AND he charged you a penny for what was to be included.

Doesn't sound like such good service. Good service is when you get everything you need PLUS extras the first time around...without having to pay the extra transportation costs for the runaround.

I have, in my position, purchased Gateway, HP and Dell products. Gateway moved their service south, and I heard that Dell is doing the same. I suggest sticking to smaller electronic stores. You may pay a bit more, but the taxes and jobs stay in your community...small business beats the Big Box names...and if you have a problem, they are great for customer service.

I did agree with the comment about 2001 Audio...the sales rep who priced a stereo and in-home theatre for my brother recently knew his stuff. I was impressed. He didn't lead him to the highest priced items, but to the best he's found and uses himself.

Future Shop is owned by Best Buy and they try to fool people into thinking they are shopping around when in fact they're buying the same stuff from the same people for the same price. Ever notice their newspapaer flyers come out on the same day and look almost identical?

BEST PRICE DOES NOT EQUAL THE BEST DEAL.

Do your research. Know what you want. And check that what they are offering you is actually what you researched. Costco offers good prices on electronics / appliances but they often come with no factory warranty. (it's even printed on the boxes)

Stores are there to make money. Don't be fooled when they "suggest" you don't need the most expensive computer (or whatever) and set you up with a "better deal" on a lower priced unit. They make their money from their mark-up and can often make more money on a lower priced unit and make you feel good about getting a "deal".

Do your research and if what the salesman says doesn't jive ... LEAVE! Maybe they're telling the truth. Do some more research and you can go back. Or maybe they're trying to confuse you with technical terms and sell you a bill of goods. But if you're not comfortable ... listen to your gut and get out.

The nice thing about Future Shop and Best Buy is they have fairly extensive websites that can really help with product research prior to going out and shopping.

Personally, I don't mind paying a bit extra to deal with someone who knows what they are talking about and will be there if I return with a problem rather than some pimply faced kid working part time who changes jobs every time they change acne cream.

if it's a bigger ticket item i check it out online (i just type in what it is and then best price) and get the best price i can see...then take it into the store and get their price guarantee

i did this with my new logitech cam (it's the fancy glass eye lens one) - best buy was charging about 100 dollars more than the best price i found... i took in a print-out of the pages i'd found and they gave me the reduction... i offered to leave the sheets with them so that they could show whoever decided on their instore price, so that they wouldn't price themselves out of the market in the future - but the floor manager said that noone usually bothers to check other peoples' prices for the guarantee, so it didn't matter...

sheesh, gotta luv customer service..

They sold me a BETTER keyboard and mouse than would have come with the computer for a penny.

Mistakes happen everywhere, people are human. Have you ever made a mistake? I know I've made a zillion of them. How the business responds to the mistake is what counts, IMO. I am satisfied with the way FS handled it, they *could* have told me to go blow, that keyboard and mouse don't come with demo computers (which is what a couple employees told me at first) and that I was SOL.

To tell you the truth

Best Buy owns Future Shop.
they bought Future Shop and then decided to come into Canada as Best Buy as well and be their own competition. Modern market strategy

For video games and video game accesories - Electronic Boutique
DVD's and Music - your local video store and HMV
Computers - the Apple Store (if you're not an Apple person, go to a place like Summit Direct)
Cameras - Henry's

All these places have the same products and services that Futureshop or Bestbuy have at similar (sometimes better) prices, BUT they have knowledge and experience, their extended warranty plans AREN'T bogus like Bestbuy or Futureshop and they only sell you what you want and only offer you what you want or need. There's no point in visiting these big box stores at all, to me they're worse than Walmart.

Also, don't waste the salesperson's time at these specialty stores and go buy it at Bestbuy for $10 less, at worst - let them know the difference and they might be able to help you out. But consider this - oftentimes the lessons that people at a place like Henry's or Summit Direct will give to you while you're looking at their product are what other's would pay top dollar to learn.

It's going to be a shame when these stores that employ people who have knowledge and experience go out of business and all that's left are Costco, Bestbuy and Walmart and you have certain needs for your TV and ask the kid that's moving the crate of TVs what they can do and all he can honestly answer is "it shows a picture on the screen and has a remote."

Future shop and best buy are the same store with different names. They dont compete, they price things differently at each store, making you think your getting a deal, fact is they just raised the prices at one store and lowered at the other. If something is priced high at one store, its lower at the other store, sometimes its not.

Better to go with a wholesaler like tigerdirect.ca anyways.

Went to both to shop for a Mac since my PC crashed a few weeks ago. During weekends, both places were zoos. Went back during the week and nobody could answer any of my Apple related questions. Found an Apple store by accident and went there. Same prices as Future Shop and Best Buy but what a superior shopping experience!

There were lots of people who could answer my questions so I bought a new Mac on the spot. They also have free seminars which I'm taking about once per week. Best of all, there are lots of people there who could answer my questions whenever I need tech help.

Won't go back to Best Buy or Future Shop again, at least for computers. If I want to get a small cheap part, I'd rather go to Tiger Direct.

For other electronics, I would probably check out Best Buy or Future Shop again but preferably on weekdays.

Go to an independant - get an AMD works just as fast as a Pentium and as well, but cost a heck of a lot less. Best Buy has a really convoluted return policy when you pay a 15% shelf stocking fee on returns, so be very careful if you buy there. Staples has some nice buys from time to time and they are a lot nicer to deal with than either Future Shop or Best Buy. I worked in desktop support before I retired, and we all bought our pc's at independants.

Ok , we've established that BB and FS are the same company. Check.

I personally like Best Buy. My problem with Future Shop is that if you're just going in to browse or see what options you have, they are constantly hounding you. Yet when you actually want to buy something, you can't find anybody to help :|

I prefer BB just because i seem to get better customer service, and i have no idea which one you people are going to, but the one i go to, they don't try to upsell me to something that has extra features i don't want/need.

I always find those little smurfs/blueberries helpful.

I hate Best Buy... they are a bit cheaper than Future Shop, but the customer service is hell.. HELLL. I've walked behind the staff counter, picked up an item once, and walked out of the store, no one stopped me, I couldn't beleive it. anyway, its all personal choice, but I dont goto Best buy anymore, just too many stupid kid employees standing around picking their noses not doing anything to help

Before I bought my new TV to replace my old one this year, I did a lot of research online as well as offline, I used my search engine on my computer to check out many electronic stores and finally decided on the Future Shop in the city I live in. I wanted to get away from the picture tube style TV because the picture tube from what I understand is the most expensive part of a TV to replace when it needs to be replaced. I also wanted to make sure that I bought my new TV from a place where the staff know quite a bit about electronics and that the place I bought it from was conveniently close by for me to get to, in case it had to go back. Offline I visited several stores including Walmart, Canadian Tire, the Source and the Future Shop, I checked them out before deciding on which place to buy my new TV from. Online I checked out several websites including Leons, the Brick, Best Buy, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Zellers, Tiger Direct, etc.

The best place I found was the Future Shop, I went there and there was no sales pressure, the staff were quite knowledgeable about electronics, the price was quite reasonable and I decided to buy a 37" LCD TV from Toshiba. I wasn't pressured into an extended warranty or anything like that, I was informed about the return policy they have, which was reasonable and also how it could be delivered for me but I chose to have a friend help me bring it to my place, instead. The picture quality is excellent and the sound quality is also excellent and I am perfectly satisfied with it!

Because of how well I was treated by the staff at the Future Shop and the prices and selection of electronics there, I will definitely go back there again when I need something and I am not advertising for them by saying that either, I mean what I say, I was quite impressed by the place, which doesn't happen very often when I go shopping for something, at some places I do get disgusted and walk out.

Just found out about a friend of mine. She bought a computer @ future shop 1 1/2 years ago for around $900.00.....it died this week. After doing some research through the HP web site, I found out it was a refurbished unit. Needless to say, they did not inform her of this, but said it was new.

Talk about bad business practise and lieing to the public. Makes me wonder how many more they have sold as new units and not refurbished units???
