subtitles are not at all distracting and the Spanish is music to the ears
enjoyable in the way that only foreign films are. entertaining storyline about family and infidelity (no, not going to give it away). if you like the small town experience, you'll appreciate the warm & fuzzies in this film. if ya don't, you'll still appreciate the sight of Penelope Cruz in sweaters and pencil skirts

In order to deal with the reality around her, she retreats to a fantasy world where she is a long-lost princess and must perform 3 tasks in order to return there forever. Beautiful to look at, this one should be a shoo-in for Best Foreign Film come Oscar time.

I think that she turned on Juno too quickly, Juno killed her friend by accident and then panicked...

I got the feeling that Juno was having an affair with Sarah's husband.....there seemed to be something between them at the beginning after the girls finished rafting and the way he was acting in the car. Then at the end, when Sarah had Juno's necklace, it said the same thing that Sarah's husband apparently used to say. The ending was different, but I don't think any of them got out alive. A movie I could watch many times!!! LOL......... That's why I think Sarah turned on Juno......that and because Juno lied about seeing their friend die.

Ahhhh, if only I was 15 years younger (and looked like Lois Lane). It was a good movie.

Stars Michael Caine, Christian Bale, and Hugh Jackmam. Man, Alfred, Batman, and Wolverine in the same film. I guess thet are just biding time til the new Batman and Wolverine films come out. Saw a lame one, of course my opinion only. 16 Blocks with Bruce Willis. Failure To Engage was a hoot. A lot of fun for a chick flick. I'm probably the only heterosexual male that likes Matthew McConaghey. Could have done without Hall of Famer, Pittsburgh Steeler showing his pinkish hue bare bottom. Grossssss!

Amen. A truly original story that seamlessly marries the disparate genres of war and fantasy in a visually stunning and emotionally compelling film. This one left me feeling raw... because sometimes the scariest movie monsters aren't the fantasy ones.

Even more strange was how I watched it. I saw the whole movie in 10 separate parts on You Tube. I've seen the odd documentary on You Tube before, but this was the first time for a full length feature film.
God, I love the Internet!

Pan's Labyrinth is playing at the Grant Park Cineplex Actually, since Cineplex had to sell the Grant Park Theatres to Empire Theatres, in order to buy Famous Players, they seem to have a better range of films there - beyond the mainstream Hollywood flicks. Maybe they are noticing that the Globe is getting some decent audiences showing indie flicks and foreign films? They are actually showing 2 foreign films and one limited release at this time. In any case, I was blown away by Pan's Labyrinth. What a great movie! Left the theatre feeling emotionally drained. I won't be climbing into any tree trunks anytime soon...

Its about an army guy who volunteers to be frozen, and wakes up 500 years later to find out that he is the smartest man on the planet! Luke Wilson is in it.
Hope its not lame.

Down loaded that one - definately worth a look. It had some very funny jabs at how society is being dumbed-down by our obsession with celebrities and brand names. It's written and directed by Mike Judge, so if you're a fan of Office Space, you'll like it. The studio (Fox) did everything in their power to kill this film, so it kind of has an un-finished feel to it, IMO.

| What is the last movie you've seen in the theatre or vid...? Posted: 1/23/2007 6:35:34 PM | I saw Letters from Iwo Jima last night, it was terrific. It was a superior film to Flags of our Fathers (which I also liked). If at all possible, try to see both movies. They cover the same events from the perspective of both sides.
I read today that it received Oscar nominations for best picture and best director. Of the five nominees, I have only seen two of the films. The other film was Departed, which I think is also an excellent movie.

Ok... so I'm thinking... Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett... how can you go wrong? Well, apparently a movie can suffer when it introduces a few too many themes (all relevant, mind you) and leaves several of them inadequately explored or resolved.
Where the film does succeed is as a character study of a rather unusual predator. Dench gets all of the movie's best lines and some big laughs with her acerbic narration... bitter never sounded better! She's so scathingly good, it made me want to take notes!
Other highlights are the stellar performances by Dench and Blanchett and the absolutely exquisite musical score by Philip Glass.
