Night at the Museum was the last movie I saw at the theatre too. Took my boys, and their Grandmother. I think my Mom and I liked it better than the kids did. I loved it.

I watched Bobby last night...what a great film! I highly recommend it. The memory of Robert Kennedy was not depleated by hiring some actor that doesnt look / cant act anything like the "real person". Any parts in the film where he is protrayed, they have taken actual footage!

Hilarious and high-paced, the British comedy Hot Fuzz plays homage to the best... and parodies the worst... of action flicks, cop buddy movies and the entire murder mystery genre.

You've seen all the parts that make up this intelligent, crisply-edited & laughed-so-hard-hey-where-are-my-abs-of-steel? funny movie before (think Jerry Bruckheimer meets Monty Python)... but nothing put together quite like this.

If Agatha Christie were still alive, she just took a roundhouse kick to the face. Hag

The Lives of Others, a memorable and moving German film that yoinked the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film out from under the amazing Pan's Labyrinth.

Stellar and finely-nuanced performances by the two male leads demonstrate our human capacity for compassion and change can take root even in the midst of a climate of deep political paranoia (it's no small irony that in 1984 the East German police state registers typewriters like weapons)... and that people are capable of transcending both psychological and political oppression to make personal choices that allow them to live with others... and more importantly... with themselves. Simply brilliant.

Ok, all the CGI effects in the world can't save Spiderman 3 from being one hot mess. Kirsten Dunst should not sing, Tobey Maguire shouldn't dance, a whole bunch of other actors should be reconsidering their latest career move (I'm looking at you, Topher Grace & Thomas Hayden Church)... and director Sam Raimi should be completely ashamed of himself.

Oh, but I did learn one important thing... apparently a new hair do is the telltale sign that a formerly good person has given in to their darkest impulses. The image of Tobey Maguire sporting some really bad emo boy-band bangs and eyeliner is gonna give me some serious nightmares... like Good Charlotte doesn't do that already. *shudder*

Rated $8 out of a budget of $250 million... but I want that and the 2 hours & 19 minutes of my life back.

I agree completely. The reason I liked Spiderman I and II was that neither of them were this movie. This appears to be the first time that Sam Raimi has been involved in the writing/screenplay of the Spiderman franchise (he directed the other 2), and in my opinion it was a HUGE mistake. The characters went from 3D to 2D, and the "plot" was a mess. For $250 million, they could have afforded some writers.
The other thing that bothered me was that I do not feel this is a children's movie, despite the toys at Burger King and all the other foolishness. Seeing a little 3-4 year old girl at this movie bothered me. My guess is there will be some nightmares of Venom in her future.

Like that three year old wouldnt have nightmares about the green goblin in Spidey 1?
Even now, I am still waiting for them to apologise for The Hulk, which at its best still is bird cage bait.
Now, Spidey 3 is over charactered so nobody gets development time.
I think whats bothering people is that the Venom thing shows Parker's nasty side and they are not comfortable with him being anything other than a goody two shoes.
Go ahead and see it folks.
The whole point of Kirstin Dunst singing was to show that her character can't sing....duh!
The X men franchise is still better, but this was a good movie and I dont regret spending the money to see it.

Perhaps... but at least she won't be afraid to go back into the sandbox on account of Spidey's the newest villain, The Sandman. I mean, c'mon... what kind of monstrous creature is a man made of sand? What's he going to do... get under your contact lens and irritate your eye?

Oh, the horror! The horror!

I liked Spidey 3 (The comic Book geek in me) but the plotholes were enormous, and there were all sorts of things just popping up out of no where, or that didn't make sense, if you care to consider them.

And I love that the Spidey powers now consist of "Spider-dancing" and "SPidey-jazz piano".
As my one friend pointed out, the 2 big issues were
1) Coulda used some explanation here and there about certain things. and
2) THey'd do a scene, and something would happen, and then they'd forget about it completely, like the next scene their was no mention of it at all.

One of the rumors I heard a while back was that Sam Rami never planned to do Venom, as he didn't like the character, so maybe it was forced upon him by the studio so he just put a lousy effort into it.

Of course it could all be worse....after all, in the last film of his, Superman became a stalker-esqe deadbeat dad.
"Well honey, your daddy choose to go to another planet, so I'm gonna shack up with that mutant guy with the glasses...."

If y'all didnt like Spiderman 3, I would consider the possibility that you might have missed the point.

It's a comic book. It's supposed to be cheesy.

Aristocats...not to be confused with the AristoCRATS!!

That reminds me of a joke..."So this guy walks into a talent agency and says to the agent, "Have I got an act for you! It's a family act, you'll love it."... Ah you've probably heard this one before...

I saw two movies last weekend...

A Night At The Museum on dvd which i HIGHLY recommend. And then we went to see IMAX Deepsea 3D which I recommend even more than the first. That IMAX 3D is amazing. I couldn't believe how incredible it was. If you are going to see any movie this year, make sure you go to IMAX. I literally felt that i could reach out and touch the fish as the swam by.

I saw spiderman 3 last night and thought it was quite entertaining. We laughed during the scenes when peter parker was wearing his black suit and prancing around like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. It was quite funny and I think the dark hair was a deliberate spoof on the old westerns in which the bad guys wore black hats and the good guys wore white.

I wasn't expecting a heartfelt drama so I wasn't disappointed.

Hey I saw it too, last night.....so that wasn't you necking in the back row??

SpideyIII was very much enjoyed by me and my GF considered it long and boring

This is completing a streak of movies we have watched recently that one of us really liked and the other disliked. Disconcerting !

Another one that we differed on was "The 300".....she loved it.....most women I believe loved it. I think one aspect of the movie was that it is a form of PORN for women....gawd, how likely is it that all ancient Greek soldiers had bodies like Adonis ??
Similar to "Sin City" it was cool with dialogue mixed in with action
BUT....personally....I think this was a War Movie in disguise....I like war movies but only when they are openly such. However, "The 300" had dialogue that blatantly played toward the honor of young men sacrificing thier lives for an ideal......some generalized ideal called "freedom"......I have a problem with that, and so it was difficult for me to just relax and just enjoy the entertainment aspect of the movie.....maybe it also has to do with it being based on real history.

Spidey III however is pure fantasy ..... but my understanding of Spiderman (and keep in mind that if I had kept some of the comics in mint condition that I used to read when I was a kid, I likely would own a very expensive collection today) is that Stan Lee brought humanism to fantasy characters......insecurities, bad choices, imperfections and the inconsistencies that occur in relationships.

It was this psychology mixed with the struggle for good.....for morality....for upward personal growth....for learning to make personal sacrifices in day to day living for others....THIS IS WHAT SPIDEY IS ABOUT......and those things are what make it a very good movie, inspite of whether you think the hairdo change was appropriate, or that the plot had some holes (personally I think they MISTAKENLY assume we all still read the comics and know the plot intricacies through that).

If you want to see plot holes wait for the Silver Surfer to come out with the Fanatstic Four......this was a character that took a long time to develop in the comics, and people are much less familiar with the character than they are Spiderman.....I can't see how they can do it justice in just one movie.

Oh my. Last night I sniffled my way through Sarah Polley's Away From Her, a quietly understated and unconventional love story about attachment, loss and letting go. Screenwriter and director Polley draws exquisitely-crafted performances from Julie Christie (still a stunner at 66!) and Gordon Pinsent (a national treasure!) as a couple whose deep love (perhaps made even deeper by past damage) anchors them as they begin to travel uncharted seas when an illness disrupts the comfortable life they've created together.

There's so much that is good about this film! The work of supporting cast, even in the smallest of roles, is honest and real. There's one scene - where Olympia Dukakis has just one line but manages to convey about 50 different emotions with her face - that alone is worth the price of admission. I know both that look... and that place. Polley's love and loyalty for Canada plays like an extra in the film... even providing a few laughs along the way - like a couple of big ones courtesy of the "former play-by-play guy for the Winnipeg Jets".

Polley's talent is undeniable and I think we can expect great things from this young woman. The script doesn't have one cloyingly sentimental moment and the cinematography is simple and powerful. Canadian girls do indeed rock... but best of all, they do it with grace.:)

Might I suggest The Condemned if you are looking for a similar level of plot and character development? I didn't see the movie, but I would almost bet that the talented thespian "Stone Cold" Steve Austin would provide an equal level of acting talent to many of the performances in Sam Raimi's latest.
