My experience is that there are a group of us in Spirit that get together before incarnating and talk about how we will meet up after we get physical bodies and help each other experience certain life lessons...this is the "destiny" part I think you are describing.

We are each definitely responsible for creating our own "reality" though. We create it with every thought that is charged with emotion/feeling. We must believe what we think is true to manifest it. This is the Law of Attraction and works whether we are conscious of the law or not.

You've heard sayings like,"be careful what you ask for because you might get it"...this is true most of the time if we feel we are worthy and it is possible. Notice how negative thinking people usually have alot of unecessary "drama" in their lives. I don't wonder why.

God/Source will co-create with us if we ASK and believe it as TRUE. I choose to vision a basic open ended outline for what I want in my life, specific in the details that are very important to me while leaving my plan open for improvement by Source/God. I always ask for this or whatever is for my highest good and better. I know God wants the best for me because I am His child, so I expect only the best outcome always. If I do not receive what I ask for then I know it is not for my highest good and that something better is coming..this ALWAYS works !

Also, think about this: Whatever we see outside of ourselves is a perfect reflection of what we really believe. Change your thoughts/beliefs, change your reality. Two people can observe the same event and have completely different views/perceptions of it. Mass Consciousness is the set of beliefs that the multitude holds that defines humanities basic beliefs about reality. We are born into this belief system and quickly accept it from our parents/society as Truth.

Our thoughts can lie. It is wise to question our thoughts to make certain that they really do reflect what we truly believe inside our hearts as Truth. Check out this website for a FREE way to set yourself free from emotional pain/suffering by questioning your thoughts....www.thework.com

Well we all have choices all the time. It doesn't mean they'll make any difference in terms of any outcome. If a nuclear missile is heading for your forehead, well, I guess you can run but it probably won't change much. You can say that you're sick of your job , quit and apply to work as a doctor but that doesn't mean you'll get that job. To really change your life requires planning and creative thinking. In that respect , yes , we're all in charge of our destinies. Circumstance is the pivotal factor here though. Having all the food you'll ever need sitting in front of you isn't much good if it's canned and you have no can-opener.

I am the creator of my own burger at Wendy's - it says so on their TV commercial.

LOL!! The easy choices are delivered to our doors, or right into our living rooms, or monitors. The ones that matter are the ones we have to step out and wrest from the world.
The notion that God's hand moves anyone on a daily basis is imo a telling measure of the childish mind that buys into it.
Nope. We are free agents, but not sufficiently equipped the knowledge necessary to make choices of consequence. And, as a prior poster has commented, the chords we strike are mostly lost in the cacophony of cross-purpose choices the other billions of free agents are making concurrently.
We are destined to die, and to feed, make waste, and beget more of our own enroute to it. For the rest of it, we are left to our own devices. jmho

I wrote something about this a while ago:

Each time I take a step, I tread softly, for I may be closing doors left and right, doors that have completely changed the course of my life. In fact, by just standing here, I cringe at the sound of doors being shut in a far away distance, stare doubtfully at doors that have just creaked open. Who will be waiting for me behind these doors and who will I run into along the path from door to door? How will I know which one to pick?

But in fact, I do not get to pick...I am automatically sucked into each vacuum based on every action I take, every gesture I make, every thought that flows through my head. For my life is just a large maze...one with pre-set multiple pathways, and all I have is to choose the course I wish to take.

But do I really have a choice if I am forever treading among the same maze grounds? Is there a way to escape to the mountains above and crystal waters below? Choices within fate...perhaps the secret is capturing the balance between the two.

"Is there a way to escape to the mountains above and crystal waters below? Choices within fate...perhaps the secret is capturing the balance between the two.

There are Three Major Life Lessons to learn here and the "consequences" of our actions are merely ways to learn these life lessons. Learn the lessons, change your BELIEF about how life works, CHANGE your actions/consequences.

Major Life Lessons:
1. Separation from Source/each other
2. Low Self Esteem
3. Trust

Lessons Learned:
1. I Am unique, yet function as a part of the Whole, where I am supported and Loved - We are One Family
2. I Am Worthy, I am a Important, Valuable part of All That Is as I shine my Power,
performing my valuable function within the Whole of Life.
3. I AM TRUST - trust is Not anything I give or receive, It is who I Am - therefore I
Know who is trust-worthy!
Ultimately, we create our own reality with our thoughts (create the form), feelings (charge the form) and actions. Our Feelings reflect our Beliefs, so we ALWAYS create what we believe or judge. See www.thework.com The "stories" in our life all "mirror" to us exactly what we believe and whether or not we push our good away or draw it to us .

What we BELIEVE ultimately determines our destiny. All of our thoughts, feelings and actions come from our personal TRUTH...free will reigns supreme here on earth, even if what we believe is ultimately not a sustainable form.

Done with God, and moving on to free-will. Seems to be more philosophical questions in here than there are in the philosophy thread. To the person before who said that as he doesn't believe in God, he believes that he is free to decide his own destiny, I would say that the exsistence of God, or lack thereof, has absolutely nothing to do with causality. In fact there are those who argue that the only way we COULD have free-will, would be if God exsisted.

Suppose we discovered that life is strictly determined by all the events that led up to it, and occur during it. That "free-will" was nothing more than an illusion, a "lie" if you will. What then? We would still have to make decisions, and rationalise the consequences. It really doesn't matter if we have free-will or not, it has to be presupposed in order to live. If it is a "lie", then it is, as Nietzsche would put it, "an essential lie".

I think we are the creators of our own destinies ... to an extent ... but with realistic limitations. We can control our education, learning, what we choose to experience, career paths to take, how much effort we put into things ... but we cannot control what others may do to us, or being struck down by illnesses of varying types.

But for the ultimate "destiny" - death, I think it is quite out of our control. For example, if my life is going well, but someone decides to blow a stop sign and kills me, ... that sure is not my choosing.

(But then, it is curious how one person can roll and crash several vehicles, survive many "accidents" ... yet another person can die so easily while not being wreckless at all. Why some people can survive and beat the "killer" medical problems, and others die from a flu...)

No I do not... Things happen in our lives that we cannot control. As stated in another post, we as adults can only control ourselves(with the exceptions of our feelings) and not what someone else may or may not do or feel.jmo

"but we cannot control what others may do to us, or being struck down by illnesses of varying types."

This is NOT a random universe where bad things happen to good people!! Imagine that you are always "alive" and never really "die", the body is just a form you come into to live in for just a very short time. Before you incarnate into a body, you choose your mother, father and the "Cast of stars" that will play the parts of the "movie" that you will call your "life" on earth. The whole cast of your movie writes a basic outline for the "story" together...and you decide what life lessons you will explore while you are here. So there IS a basic storyline that is followed where you get an opportunity to "play" the victim, perpetrator, etc.

Illness and Disease begins as stored trauma, anger and unresolved emotions that are stored in the physical body. Disease also involves our deep seated BELIEFS about pain, suffering, death and victimhood. Change your beliefs, release your woundedness and Transform your Life.

People in ancient times (as in biblical times), lived to be over 900 yrs. old....so that tells me that if we BELIEVE it is possible and DO whatever it takes to keep our body healthy, then it IS possible to live a very long life. Death can happen when we choose to release the body....OR....we could choose to raise the frequency of our physical body to that of Light and ascend WITH the physical body, as Jesus did (He said, "these things I do, you WILL do these and more." What do I believe is TRUTH is the bottom line as to how healthy, wealthy and wise I become. When I create my own reality consciously, I create from proven, self-sustaining , historical life patterns that WORK. Therefore, pain can "happen", but suffering is a "choice".
War will end when I END the war within me.
Illness and disease are my body screaming to get my attention. I will ASK my body what it needs to feel safe, healthy, strong and fit....then I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to take full responsibility for my choices. This is how I create what I WANT instead of just getting whatever I get. It's "time" to wake up to our potential and co-create consciously with the Love, Wisdom and True Power within our own hearts, the flame that will show us the "way" Home. Truly, there are no victims, just volunteers.

"Suppose we discovered that life is strictly determined by all the events that led up to it, and occur during it. That "free-will" was nothing more than an illusion, a "lie" if you will. What then?"

Why waste time debating the LAWS of the Universe? Fantasy has no basis in TRUTH.
Laws are Laws and ALWAYS stand up to Inquiry. The Laws of this demensional reality are fixed and will only "appear" to change as we move into higher demensional /vibrational realities.
If you don't believe me, try ignoring any other law you don't believe in, such as :
time, space, polarity, distance, gravity, attraction, speed of light....Free will and Karma(what comes around goes around) goes together by the way...
If you are late to your job you will get fired eventually.
If you kill someone, eventually someone will kill you.
Whatever you Hate you will create.
If you jump off a building you will fall down splat.
If we want true Freedom we will do whatever it takes to create Peace and Joy in our lives. I AM the ONLY One that can choose how I feel in my own body. NOBODY can "make" me feel anything. We give our Power away because we choose to be victims. I am the only one that can think and feel inside my body. Just ask any prisoner of war how he survived.

Scientists ARE beginning to see that the Laws governing third demensional reality do CHANGE as they observe on the quantum level (high frequencies). Scientists have witnessed a photon disappear, and then re- appear in two different localities at the same time, sometimes reappearing before it left. (quantum entanglement) Photons can also choose to move as a particle or a wave when forced to perform a function, as in the 2-slit experiment at the Univ. of Geneva, Switzerland in Aug. 1987

Swami Vivekananda says "Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders, and know that you are the creator of your own destiny. All the strength and success you want is within you. Therefore, make your own future."

Do you believe that your destiny is already mapped out for you or you make your own way path ??or that really we can't change what will happen because it's already going to happen no matter what.
First, please understand that this person, Swami Vivekananda, whom you referenced, did not come up with this idea: it is not a new or original thought.

Yes, I do believe we create our own reality and are responsible for our destiny, for the most part. We must deal with what life hands us, whether it is our intelligence, talents, health or illness, etc. If you are born with multiple physical limitations, like Steven Hawkins, for example, then you obviously have little control over your physical destiny, but you make your life what it is based on what you do with what you've got and what you are given throughout life.

Yes I agree we are masters of our own destiny. You may be dealt the hand, but you don’t have to keep the cards.
It has been agued in all seriousness by scientists, that the beating of a butterfly’s wing on one side of the globe can trigger currents that cause a hurricane miles away. If so, perhaps we all have to re-think the idea that our words and deeds make little impact on society, and ourselves. We do have influence. And power. Your actions and choices have the potential to change both yourself, and the world.

Agree partially. Sometimes bad things happen to people and it's up to the individual to make the best of a rotten situation. It's easier for some and harder for others.

Life is full of challenges. It's how the individual responds to the challenges that creates our character. Sometimes we can cope better than other times.

Wow, what a long and insane message.
It's far too long for me to respond to all of it, so I will just choose one part.

<div class="quote">The "Beast" computer in Belgium
So to some people, this sounds very believable. We know computers are already storing information on us, and most of us routinely make electronic transactions.
But the laws of several nations would bar this from happening. In Canada we have our privacy laws that would not allow a foreign entity from holding information on all of its citizens. And do you really believe the US government would allow a foriegn nation to hold information about all of its citizens.

So before people tell me I am wrong for my thoughts. Let's look at where the story of the "Beast" computer came from.

<div class="quote">The story was perticularly promoted by an article printed in "Christian Life" in 1976. Months later, the magazine was contacted by Joe Musser, a christian writer. Musser explained that the Beast computer was a fiction he created as part of his novel "Beyond a Pale Horse", and for the screenplay for "The Rapture", a film by David Wilkerson. The confusion seems to have arisen from promotional flyers that were propagated in the form of realistic-looking mock newspapers containing stories that supposedly reported such end times events as the giant computer.
http://books.google.com/books?id=LxCwyChmJrAC&pg=PA23&lpg=PA23&dq=Beast%22+computer+in+Belgium&source=bl&ots=Wfs4IvLL6Y&sig=Ucf-pWzyanpVPVSi0hQU9zXrItY&hl=en&ei=DHo-Svy6CIvCM9SUra0O&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4

Urban legends are usually easy to disprove. But not too often am I able to find the original author of the legend.

Come on folks, have some common sense. If you find a fancifull story, don't tell everyone it is a fact until you have done some research. It took me 30 seconds to find the truth about the "Beast".

^^^I prefer the earlier link (#34) the same poster provided on alien abduction and shape-shifting reptiles who also happen to be world-leaders. That website was a great excurison into the realms of incoherence in illogicality.

My summation of that site is that is it not quite urban legend, part conspiracy theory, with a dash of Orwell, and some snake oil thrown in for good measure. Good evidence that a man standing on a street corner with a sign reading "the lizard people rule you all," or, "my neighbours are spying on me for the government" isn't likely to get many supporters - unless you give that man a website template or a YouTube account. Lo and behold, he'll have thousands of people across the world supporting him in no time.

I sure wish I had stock in a tinfoil-hat producing company right about now....

I disagree with this statement ... one's own destiny is determined by opportunities and influences. Depending on the financial, social, environmental and nurturing experiences and opportunities one has is how one's destiny is shaped.

I am thinking here about the millions of people who are displaced world wide. In the right supported environment they were/are in control of their own destiny however; through the experiences they have had they are no longer in control of their own destiny. It is difficult if not impossible to determine and make decisions that in many ways is outside your control. Cheers. A.
