| What are some of the worst jobs you've ever had?

I had a job in an office at a golf course where I was in charge of the computerized inventory and the cash balancing of the proshops and dining rooms. The professional there thought nothing of yelling at me when I followed up with his staff to report on missing money and incorrect member charges, etc. He's the reason I left for my current job of 7 years, and he left the next year (not quite fired, but I believe he was asked to resign). | |

Posted: 7/10/2006 2:40:52 PM | When I was in high school, and for a while in college (so it was in 2001-2003), I worked as a cleaner at Mic Mac Mall. I'd clean up the parking lot every weekend, rain or shine or blizzard. I know $7/hour wasn't bad for someone in high school, but I really didn't care for picking up dirty diapers and used condoms during a rainstorm. Man, people can be such pigs. During the summer, though, they had me work indoors (for $6/hour, yay) cleaning toilets and the like. Thank God I got myself fired...
A couple of years ago, I had a job doing telephone surveys. How I lasted three months, I have no idea. Pay was okay, but disturbing people during their dinners to ask them 13 billion questions about toilet paper and "Velveeta cheese loaf in a cardboard box", or whether Air Miles would be their friend if it were a person, wasn't exactly glamorous.

Posted: 7/11/2006 5:06:44 AM | I had a job I really liked awhile back but my boss was a nightmare. She'd:
1. Ask me to work late all the time without any pay
2. Give me these really unreasonable deadlines. Like a half an hour to design a 30 page presentation.
3. She even asked me to cook on my own time for clients for no pay (and I don't cook often btw and my job had no cooking related duties associated with it.)
4. If I didn't know the answer to something right away she would accuse me of holding stuff back from her (she was convinced I was like this machine that could produce answers like magic about pretty much anything).
5. She told me one day she thought I wanted her job when its the last thing I wanted
6. After complaining, she called my family doctor to try to convince her I wasn't well (my doctor refused to speak to her).
I could write pages on the screwed up shit she put me through. | |

Posted: 7/18/2006 8:37:16 PM | Picking tobacco, various fruits/vegetables. Hard hard work, but not bad pay. I understand why those jobs are open for migrant workers.
Also packing fish (gaspereaux) in barrels to be shipped to the west indies. Start each day after school by taking your hard as a rock clothes to the river to wet them down so you could get them on without them breaking LOL. Sweet. Thank goodness for edjewmakayshun...

i have thought about joining the navy... i think (for me) the time away on deployments would be a great way to strengthen my relationships. I like space from loved ones :-)
But i don't like travelling by sea.. so there goes that idea..went to sea for a day on HMCS Halifax though and got to do high speed turns, and climb off the ship into a RHIB which was great....
my worst job was telemarketing. i lasted 2 days.
next worst was a place where the boss threw things at us....
but yes, telemarketing was worse than that. | |

Posted: 7/19/2006 8:44:47 AM | | Let's see...i was a pizza driver around 1993 for a local pizza joint and the boss tried to make all his drivers his slave, go take his car to get fixed, go get McDonalds for him and he was Lazy as hell! He would drink Ozo or something it was called and fall asleep on the couch out back while the drivers cooked, took phone calls and delivered pizzas till 1 in the morning. I also pumped gas in the mid 90s in the middle of nowhere, had a guy who reminded me of the WWF wrestler Earthquake for a boss who would yell and smoke three packs of cigs a day. He flipped at me once because a driver in the self-serve section drove off with the hose! I was let go after six months and i found out that i passed my secret inspection at the pump, i found out my replacement flunked his and was dismissed two weeks after i was let go! | |

Posted: 7/19/2006 9:33:27 AM | | I once did "temp" work for an agricultural supply company doing inventory. It took weeks. And here's why. Imagine a long long row of steel bins 1.5m X 1.5m and 1m deep. Imagine them full of things like, oh I don't know, 1" long bolts, or nuts, or tire lugs, etc. And imagine they want the contents of each bin counted for the inventory. In my world you count out a hundred or so, weigh those hundred to determine "average" weight of each, weigh the full bin, weigh the empty bin, calculate the difference, and divide by the average weight. A simple job, maybe half an hour a bin to calculate the # of the contents, and pretty darned accurate. Sigh. You know what I had to do, don't you? For every bin. Every single bin. That's right....count every single thing in each bin. One by one. It'd be funnier if it was some government sponsored program where my salary was being subsidized, but it wasn't. The company was actually paying me to do that out of its own pocket. Those were, by far, the most boring days of my life. | |

Wosrt job....Detailing RV's.....Had perks could get The rv's for weekends free but even that couldn't make up for cleaning the toilets and flushing out the sceptic!!!! YUCK!!!!!!!! | |

A friend hired me when I first moved to the city but it was a sucky job! I'm not cut out for retail.
Snobby ppl in Bedford asking me what runner they should buy.....I had no clue!
One lady held up a pair of ski pants and said "will these fit my son?" Her son wasn't there....how the hell should I know! lol

1. Fish plant, working in the crab plant on the black belt sometimes for 16 hours or more in the frizzing cold
2. KFC
3. Cleaning buildings at night
4. Babysitting and doing housework, ironing, ect. all in one job
5. Cleaning chicken coups
6. Cleaning hey out of the barns
Then when I joined the military
1. Being on a work party ; loading and unloading trucks, digging ditches, crawling through dirt.
Thank god that was only when I was on courses for some of this.
And sometimes it is not the work or job,,,,,,,,,but the people that you have to work with or work for. You just want to shake your head. | |

Sometimes those jobs make you realize what you have now. lol
You have to start from the bottom and pay bills. Even just out of college it is hard to get a good job. after all the sucky jobs I had right out of college makes know wonder I joined the military, but, they have sucky jobs to. hahahahahah. Luckily I chose a great career that it didnt happen to often. | |

Cleaned offices, that's a hard job, especially when they are long like a maze, and cleaning the washrooms is a disgusting job. The people must be that dirty in their homes too. The employers and employees are thankless that you cleaned up after them. Also cleaning a food court. The customers make a mess,. It's a thankless and hard job as well. Some of the customers are rude and treat you like a servant. They don't care that someone cleans up after them. Also makes you wonder what state their homes are in. | |

Telemarketer, u talking like a broken record all day long while peoplehang up on u, and managers tell u its all your fault and blame it all on u for no sales.
Contract security - guard at varies sites in my city, basic wage at 6.85 at the time, u had to buy own uniform so like 100 bucks out right there, your yearly security licence so like 30 bucks there, plus they steal on average 10 hours off your pay every pay period, had to fight them every pay period, and plus boring job, but got lots of sleep
gas attendant- bad mixture, u pump gas and at same time had to cook chicken, go figure | |

Also, since I worked layaway and returns I always hated going to work around the holidays....especially Christmas. There were never enough of us to handle the lines and then the customers would get mad at me like it was my fault. Fortunately I have a big mouth and constantly told the customers why they were wrong in their assumptions....I should have been fired a few times I guess but they couldn't find any other people who could handle layaway and the lines like I could. Luckily I finished school and quit wal-mart to move on to bigger and better things. I still stop in from time to time just to visit the staff I love. | |

January 2nd, I loaded everything I owned in my old beater, and walked into the office and dropped off my keys saying I had another job, "cya brater" and left them with five year books and no one to do them; a couple of websites and no one who knew the first thing about doing them.....and they had the nerve to try to hire me to do some freelance work for them after I came here. (for which I know I would not have been paid.)
I do websites. When someone has a poor credit history with me, I will give them an estimate and tell them that it will need to be paid before any work is done.
That's the last you will hear from some of them -- others will agree to it and pay upfront. This is especially true for people who know your work.
