Dating Someone With A High IQ

The IQ that pulls me in is the Interest quotient. A person of high intelligence might cultivate many interests or he might, by choice or pathology, limit his application to a small area.

I have an acquaintance who is a crew chief for several different types of race teams. He is competent, by anyone's standard, to offer an informed opinion on any aspect of motor racing vehicles. However, for him, a wide ranging conversation would touch on NASCAR, NHRA, Formula 1, CART,Sprint cars, perhaps racing boats and motorcycles. I like talking with him because, even though I have zero interest in motor sports, I like machines and he often has interesting new information. But when he starts repeating himself, I extract myself from the conversation. His interests are so constrained and they only overlap mine in that one, small field.

I have a high IQ, being a member in High IQ Society.

I never tried to pass a Mensa test.

I need to recognize that my IQ was in many situations my enemy when it came to dating situations.

I have a good education and very good social skills, never being on dorky or nerdy side of the fence.

However, my problem is that I try to read too much in situations. I try very hard to remedy that and try to trust more my instinct than my mental analysis.

Some other time I can read through other's motivations and intentions, and that is not a good thing for them if they try to manipulate or handle me.

On the other side, I noticed I get along only with certain persons... That limits my range of motion.

In consequence, I am not very happy with having a high IQ. I wish I were a little dumber and happier.

Is it reading too much into things, or looking for what isn't there?
I think if you were less intelligent you would have even more reasons for unhappiness and be less able to do much about them. To get so dumb that happiness is the result you have to drop all the way down to dumb as a rock, until you're so dumb you can't know you are. Or you could reconsider the nature of happiness, get specific about any problems to solve and wind up making good use of your intellect. Set up the conditions that provide the opportunities for enjoyment.

Your IQ determines how much money you make. So people like Bill Gates , Albert Enstein, had or have a very high IQ. My stepfather was an engineer for General Motors, Motorola and Nasa. He was brilliant and also a mad man. At the University of Minnesota. and at Gould Corporation where he was a Chemical Engineer they labeled him the Mad Professor. But I would watch him studying for hours he would stay up all night studying mathmatics and diferential equations and calculus. But he used to beat my mother. Even though he was greatly respected by the scientific community, he would get violent from the stress of having to solve complex engineering problems. He would also chain smoke. That is why you see so many engineers and people taking mathmatics at the colleges smoking. My stepfather was a genius. He also helped develop fuel cells for General Motors in the early 1980s. But I would have to conclude most genius are bipolar or crazy. But not to get off the subject. I have dated a Electrical Engineer his father owned Union Special in Huntly Illinois his name was Christofer, H. he was from Stuggart Germany we dated a long time ago and he was very sweet. I dated another electrical engineer from Northrup and he was completely nutts. He stopped working for Northrup. His name was Scott, he lives in Madison Wisconsin. He is also ex Airforce Military. But he was bipolar. Scott M. was brilliant at mathmatics but he would stay up all night and pace the floor. So I conclude there are a lot of brilliant people who are perfectly normal. But there are those remaining few, who are on the border of insanity.

Dated one of those "self-proclaimed geniuses" who was always bragging about his IQ score and would make a huge show of doing a crossword in 2 minutes and shouting out every answer in jeopardy. Sure he knew a lot of trivia and stuff but he possessed very few social skills.

Intelligence is important to a degree, but both individuals in the relationship should be able to contribute to conversations - instead of the one party always on his/her soapbox.
