cats/monkeys are a seperated by a comma. i know this sounds ridiculous but, if i post a picture of my pets it leads me to beleive it would be part of the ban
If you aren't in the pic with them, you are taking a risk. 8 million potential pics to process/one admin
Think about it.....
Any pic that isn't a pic of the user, or can't be easily connected to it by obvious context?

IT"S NOT A "NEW" RULE
You should probably spam all the accounts with a message that tells them about the change so that have some warning. I'd also give them a week to remove the images before you start banning people.
I understand the issue with copyrighted images but a lot of people post images of their pets, or images they took when they traveled.
I'm an amateur photographer and I took all the pictures on my profile. I think the pictures I took do say something about who I am because what I find beautiful says something about me.
There aren't the resources to "check" for copyright, if the pics stray from the intended purpose (it's a dating site), your gamble.

All are decent clean pics.
I am just curious to know if this is ok or not. I couldnt see it saying we couldnt in the rules but I wanted to ask just to be sure as it doesnt say anything about pets either.

THESE ARE THE PROBLEMS.
How hard is this to understand?

Check all the "why was my profile deleted", "why can't I upload pics", threads that have been around for years. This is NOT a new rule, it's fair warning to those who don't read and understand the TOS they agree to when they create an account. Pics that don't "look" like they may be lifted from the web should be okay, ....as they always have.

He can keep a picture of his own car, but wolfskshuntress risks losing his priveleges for posting his own hands??
I realize that many of the posters think that these rules are pretty clear, but some of us are confused.
The users questions were specific to their profiles, one had a single picture, no context, the other had several. Their situation is not your concern, this thread further clarifies existing rules, if you can't discern between what is and what isn't allowed, play it safe, post only pictures of yourself. | |

I am the sole owner of the photo, nobody else has anything like it. It expresses my interest in Egyptian artifacts. I have had absolutely no problem getting dates on this site and I've had fantastic dates even with that photo as my avatar. I also posted my real pic along with it. Please exempt my avatar photo from the ban. Thanks! 
Strongly suggest that you delete it, those who see it will assume it's okay to post web pics that are similar, there cannot be exemptions out of a possible 8 million pics for you, if you don't understand this, don't be surprised when you can't upload any pics. | |

But sheez, it's too bad, as it really does serve as a mode of self-expression. I've gotten numerous emails from other fish commenting on how funny the pic was. It's a real icebreaker sometimes, which is especially useful for someone shy who doesn't typically email a lot.

I wasn't attempting to make thier situation my concern, I was attempting to clarify, as is the stated purpose of this thread. Since I've had to remove my own humorous pictures, and would rather not "gamble" with my uploading privileges, I merely wanted to be more clear. The impression that I got from those posts was that posting a picture of my car was fine, but by posting a picture of my hands I risk losing my privileges. I assumed it would be better to ask first.
If you post anything other than yourself, it's open to interpretation whether it is allowed or not. If there is context, and a pic is obviously not from the web, even though you aren't in it?
Less risky than a cat with a rifle/monkey with lipstick, more risky than a picture of you. | |

C'mon, folks... if there is not the resources to look at and judge 8 million pictures, then there certainly must not be the time and resources to devote to replying to potentially 8 million protests about the pictures.
You are lucky in my view. The way I see it, protesting about an enforcement of the rules is a rule violation in itself that could get your whole profile booted out.
I will tell you what usually happens in such a protest reaction. Historically, the decision is made to allow only one head shot and nothing else. Count your blessings, eh?

Im sure Mario Lemiuex/Homer Simpson/ET/Max the Chimp don't want their faces plastered all over dating sites.
If it's not a direct picture of you, whats the point?

I'm a professional photographer, but, I have no current pic of myself, (that's what happens when you live on the other side of the camera..lol).
I have one cute baby pic of me, one of my eye, (which I hope isnt disallowed because it's a mod thing? which I took YEARS before i ever even had a computer), one of a lightening bolt I was lucky enough to capture, and one that looks rather abstract, and seems to stimulate responses to my profile, and questions as to what it is, which makes a nice icebreaker for chat.
I EXCLUSIVELY own all 4 pics, and since my profile mentions my proffession, along with another profession of mine, I would hope that my account or right to upload pics, would not be cancelled without and admin/mod, at least looking at my profile first.
Then theres the copyright issue... many pics of people on here, are pics of themselves, but obviously professional shots. Many times, the pro actually owns those copyrights, and the person must BUY reprints, etc, from the photographer. So.. a pic of a person, is no guarentee, that they actually have the right to use the pic on here.
Copyright infringement is a legal issue, and is the responsibility of the person NOT to use it. I believe that POF is covered and held harmless, since, as has been stated, you have no way to police it, and have warned that copyright must belong to the person uploading the pic. If the person gets caught infringing, Im sure the copyright holder will decide what for of compensation is required, and if need be, will take the culprit to court.
As far as "web pics" go... I get the impression that the more polished a photo looks, the more likely someone will think its not the poster's to use, legally.
I will admit, I find some pics tedious, or immature, or sappy. We all have different tastes there. BUT... I still find them useful in telling me something about the person. For example... someone who posts artwork of angels, and baby angels, etc etc... tells me that, for my liking, the person has a rather young (immature) appreciation of art. In other words.. I learn that, for me, I most likely would not "connect" with that person.
Pictures of an actual person, tell us NOTHING, about who the person is, and, some of us are more interested in who a person is, than what they look like, and the pics they post, aside from ones of themselves, tell us more about who they are, or how they think, than any head shot, or barely clothed body shot ever will.
SIGH... Its a tough issue, and its sad to see that some people cant figure out right from wrong on their own... but... one of the GREAT things about POF, is the ability to share ideas, etc.. with others, in a freeform manner.
I don't claim to know a magic solutions, but... how bout something to the effect of...
If it OBVIOUSLY violates TOS, in a manner that is offensive, obscene, racist, illegal, etc... then act as required... but.... If something is NOT obvious, like for example, my pics, even after reading my profile, but may be questionable..... can't admin/mods devise a simple form letter, that would take virtually no time to send, whicj would give someone, say, a week, to respond to, or to remove the offending/infringing pic/pics?????
Like I said.. I dunno the answer... but... i do know, that things are EASILY misinterpreted online, and unless something is OBVIOUSLY a total violation, I think a simple query/warning, would be appreciated by ALL..................
........................and the issue fades off into the sunset now... still not resolved to most peoples satisfaction..lol.

Either way, against the rules, will result in the least? No pic privilege, ...may result in profile deletion.
This is not a new rule, just a "heads up" because of the, "why can't I upload pics?", "Why was my profile deleted" threads........
OK... ummm... lol... still clueless as to whether or not my pics might cause me grief.. suppose I'll just delete em all.. and stick up a mugshot... It might look crappy, and will show me off as just another one of millions of other humans, but at least I won't lose my priviledges...

No resources to check, if it looks like a stolen pic, (even if it isn't) it gets deleted, ...it may take a while but it will happen, and you'll lose the pic privilege, and so will others who saw your pic and thought, ..."hey, I'm going to post that cool pic I clipped off the website......."
So you lose the privilege, others who thought, "I'm going to post a pic like that", lose theirs, and so on....
It's that simple.
And, when it happens, it's always, "other people did it!"
It's site policy, ...nobody's going to "check" first, there are no people hired to check (free site), there won't be "explanations", no people for that either........
No, "well, ...HE/SHE does it!" .....excuse
Hence: the rules.

I love my cats. If I want to post a picture of my cat, I will, as is on my profile, have the cat on my lap, on my shoulders or whatever. Me. And my cat.
There you have it. Satisfies the substantive purpose of the dating profile (hey, lookit' the stoopid sailor with the fat yella cat!), but still gives contect of me, my boat, my home and my pet.
Same with flower beds. Got a nice garden? Simple; picture of YOU tending to your lovely flowers. See? Ain't that hard, and gives an even better clue that they're flowers you've grown and tended, than a pic that could be a generic from FTD.
I'm a competitive shooter. Picture of me shooting at a pistol match? No prob, right? Picture of just a Colt 1911? Won't fly.
Blogspot offers free space for blogs; perfect for self-expression. This is a dating site.

I have never had a problem with people posting those but if I can't have a picture of my cat on here ...I sure don't want to look at someone's butt anymore. Fair is fair...If I can't prove my cat is mine I don't want to see someone's butt that doesn't have their face in it so they can prove its theirs. I read this entire thread and never saw the answer to someone else's post in regards to this.
I love this site and of course I will abide by the rules and I do understand them but I would appreciate an answer to this question.

I don't think that that is what the Admin was talking about. A cat on your lap
holding a rifle would be.
why would one want to post pics of their children not knowing who the hell is on this site?
I've been saying that for a year.
It's a rule. I just conformed. No big deal. Had to hide my whole dang zoo. lol

I thing everyone is just attempting to clairify this new rule. No one want's to be deleted for violating a term one doesn't yet understand.
what might be written where on the site, whether it was already a rule or not already..all of that is moot
this statement:
Anyone using the forums who has joke pics monkeys etc will have their image uploading disabled if they don't get rid of those pics.
^^^IS a rule because it just came from the site owner (i.e. guy who MAKES the rules) Seems simple enough to me.
