My point was that the rules are not written. If they were, I would have followed them in the first place. I'm not complaining about the rules themselves.

UPLOADING NUDITY WILL GET YOUR ACCOUNT DELETED
You can upload up to 8 images, you may keep these images hidden from other members by selecting not to display them on your profile.
Make sure the image isn't too big or it won't upload.
Cartoons and celebrity pictures are not allowed.
Make sure the image is in JPG, BMP or GIF format.
You can share these private pictures with other members when sending them a message.

The written policy does not disallow those, but the policy expressed by the administrators and moderators in this thread does. Really, the claim that the rules have not changed is invalid. The intent may not have changed, but the rules as they are now do not reflect that intent.
The rules don't have to explicitly state everything down to the last detail. It wouldn't be unfair to deny people service because they went against the intent of a rule, even if they didn't technically violate, as long as they are provided with a clear statement of the intent.
Cartoons and celebrity pictures are not allowed.
This tells me exactly what it tells me and nothing more. No intent is communicated.
This site exists to help people meet one another. The image feature is provided to allow you to publish pictures of yourself for viewing by potentially interested parties. The uploading of images that do not use this feature as intended, as determined by the discretion of staff, is forbidden. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading of images of cartoons, celebrities, animals (including pets), scenic landscapes, and the like. Generally, you should appear in all your images.
Something like this gives me some specific examples of what not to do, but it also tells me the intent behind the stated restrictions. With that, I can guess at unstated restrictions. Indeed, I should be expected to.
When you are writing rules with a certain intent in your mind, it's easy to omit that intent when you forget that readers will be in a different context of mind than you. What's obvious to the writer may not be to the reader. Thus, miscommunication.
This very thing is being discussed at the moment, good wording, BTW. | |

Who reads the emails when I report a fake profile or an escorts profile???? Have those same moderators verifying people instead of reading tattle emails.
An easier way to deal with No-Pic profiles and Non-Self-Pic profiles would be to add a filter in searches { only show profiles with humanoid pictures }
I would pay for photo verification service.

There are those who won't understand, and also the few who will deliberately misinterpret, which is the problem right now. A clear indication of the purpose of this rule is hopefully going to be added at some point. The problem seems to be worse at the forum level, where seeing these images seems to inspire others to do the same. This has occurred with cartoons and barbies on different forums. One pic, turns into ten, ten turns into...

Moderators are forum moderators, the profile side is all Admin's baby.

His site, he runs it as he sees fit.
In my city alone I see an average 3 profs per week with useless pics or pics from the web.
Do you report them?

Sorry, but I've read past the original post, to the ones that refer us to the TOS. I still can't find anything in the rules outside of this thread that prohibits pictures of one's pets or hands. I realize that the site owner has the right to impose any rule that he wishes, but new users are are issued a general copyrighted/obscene warning; they risk being penalized for posting pictures of their child's artwork or their own photography, for lack of clear and concise rules to the contrary.
That just seems wrong to me.

e. you will not post messages, pictures or recordings or use the Service in any way which
i. violates, plagiarizes or infringes upon the rights of any third party, including but not limited to any copyright or trade-mark law, privacy or other personal or proprietary rights, or
ii. is fraudulent or otherwise unlawful or violates any law; and

If you believe that new users will recognize that as barring any pictures of their own body parts or artwork, then yes. But I envision a scenario in which new users post pictures that are now being prohibited (and I say "now", because I've been seeing these same pictures for months), get punished for it, and even though it's a free site find that old addage, "You get what you pay for" running through their heads. I envision a scenario in which newer users, who don't come into the forums and don't see this thread, leave this site, because the rules that they are given don't specifically prohibit pictures of their pets, which they are punished for. And I envision this scenario being multiplied by the hundreds, because you are enforcing rules that aren't clearly set forth in the TOS.
So, no, I'm still not seeing anything outside of this thread that mandates that all pictures must be of the user. We are now being told that anything that might, in some way, possibly, be copyrighted cannot be used. But that's not what the rules state. | |

with respect to copyright material was directly addressed via the TOS w/o any minsinterpretaion what so ever.
We are now being told that anything that might, in some way, possibly, be copyrighted cannot be used. But that's not what the rules state.
You are not being told "now", that specificity with resepct to copyright material has always been there, and was viewed by you prior to poceeding with the registration process any further. If you chose to not read it, we can't control your or anyone else's unwilligness to read a 3 minute blurb.
But that's not what the rules state.
Re-read the quoted parts of the TOS, that IS what the rules state, again with respect to copyright material. | |

But new users won't see that you're enforcing rules against potentially copyrighted material. If I were a new user, reading your rules, I would consider a picture created by myself, and therefore un-copyrighted, to be abiding by your rules. Your rules only reference those materials that are copyrighted, so anything that I know to be un-copyrighted would seem acceptable.
The list of unacceptable pictures referenced in this thread is nowhere near as clarified in the TOS. That seems unfair, in my opinion, and the TOS would be better off changed to reflect that. | |

There is a big difference from actual copyrighted information and anything that seems copyrighted. Everyone here understands there is no way you could have staff to research all pictures on a site run without any fee's. Maybe a small addition to your TOS and FAQ's explaining what you have so graciously taken your time to do now & ensure everyone will have the chance to meet new members that might not read into the copyright section of the TOS & realize the time & financial constraints limiting your ability to "clear" a picture of someone's car, for example (something many people consider when dating, sad, but true.) | |

can you say extremely dangerous, let alone difficult?
Your making an assumption everyone on this site is from the United States, which is typical of Americans. There's alot of users from Canada and overseas, as well.
Even if they took the time to verify it, which there wouldn't be and the site wouldn't be free anymore, but I wouldn't send in MY address. Not worth my safety or life to talk on forums on a free website.   | |

That being said, here's a suggestion: We have different logins for the mail and forums, maybe bigfish would consider a set of avatars that we can choose from for the forums only? That way, we can still keep our sense of fun on the forums, but when someone is searching for our profile, they won't see a monkey. Just a thought....

OK, this is a new one on me. If its not a dating site maybe they should advertise as a 100% Free Pre-Dating site instead of a "100% Free Dating Site"
