| Cartoons, joke pics, Cats, Monkeys, WEB PICS, etc. ARE BANNED. Posted: 6/13/2006 4:14:12 AM | With all due respect to the dedication and good intentions of the volunteer mods ... I'm afraid that I'd like to offer a dissenting comment with respect to the ban on non-photo's: We all agree that a picture is worth a thousand words - thus, as long as a member posts at least a couple of genuine pix, what's the harm in demonstrating their sense of humour (or showing off their pet - as the Romans said: "Love me, love my dog")? Heck, if I had more room I'd be more than happy to post a pic of my puppy - one's choice of pet is indicative of their personality, IMHO. And, while I'm on a roll ... I'd much rather see members banned for posting 'fake' pix (i.e. instead of posting pix of themselves, they post somebody else's pic ... that's just wrong - however, I realise that one's impossible to enforce). Anyway - just thought I'd offer my $0.02 since we live in a democratic society, vice a facist totalitarian regime or oligarchy. P.S. (I'd have liked to have seen that artistic George Cross pic - if we can pick up a magazine at the drug store with more titillating pix - no pun intended - surely we can permit something as tame as that ...) | |

| Cartoons, joke pics, Cats, Monkeys, WEB PICS, etc. ARE BANNED. Posted: 6/21/2006 5:22:42 AM | Hello, fish mods and administration. first off, i understand the rules and the reason there of for banning the cartoons, jokepics, webpics and other mass-produced things of that nature. i also am under the impression that we are allowed to post images that are directly related to us.
i am an artist, and would like to include relevant pictures (2 out of 8). i CLEARLY state on my profile that i am an artist, these are original works of art and i am sole owner of the copyright. i view that this should be acceptable according to your TOS - the art that i create is a critical part of my personality- do i need to be in the picture with it?
and yeah, it's a dating site. i just want to use my art as part of the bait, ok? (hey, it works)

| Cartoons, joke pics, Cats, Monkeys, WEB PICS, etc. ARE BANNED. Posted: 6/21/2006 8:30:34 PM | | This edict was issued in March of this year. I had a joke pic up for a couple of weeks around Halloween of last year. It was taken off by me voluntarily in November. Today, I tried to upload pics of me and my mandolin at a family gathering on Memorial Day and discovered that I can't upload any pics. I don't see anything in Admin's original post of 18 March 2006 about this being retroactive, and I still see main pics such as a****oach, a woman standing in a corner in nothing but a g-string, flowers, etc. Something about this doesn't ring fair. How does one get those privileges returned? | |

Posted: 6/27/2006 7:07:24 PM | | I had a picture up of my teddy bear (which has served as my avatar in many forums, and in my MSN more often than any other pic) but I was told to take it down, so I took all my pics down. why are others allowed to have pictures of items but not me?

Sorry to say, to me it just looks like one is trying to push the edges of the rules. JMHO

Just beside the cancel | post is a line that says;
Anything you post can not be deleted. Read your post carefully before posting and be sure you want to hit the post button.

| Cartoons, joke pics, Cats, Monkeys, WEB PICS, etc. ARE BANNED. Posted: 7/3/2006 11:57:41 PM | I had a pic of my dog on my profile. I read this thread before uploading it. I thought that because it was obviously my dog, taken with the same camera (date across the bottom same as on the pics of me), that it was acceptable.
I have now been told however that it is not acceptable. I have now "hidden" that pic on my profile - is that ok or does she have to be deleted completely.
Seems all a bit odd to me when I'm posting in the forums regularly, and see MANY pics that aren't even of any kind of living thing!! She is my pet and gets an honourary mention in my profile, oh and she's single..........

| Query - new profiles... Posted: 7/14/2006 1:35:29 PM | | I've noted a few new profiles (which I have independently reported) that have ONLY a banned picture (cartoon, animal, etc.). Is there any sort of grace period - such as 48 hours for the owners to upload a more compliant photo? Put another way, am I wasting my time reporting these when I find them because they're so new? | |
|
| Query - new profiles... Posted: 7/14/2006 6:29:12 PM | ^Not wasting your time.^
Only Admin deals with profiles. That's 2 people dealing with thousands of reports.
It just takes some time for them to work their way thru everything.
|
| Query - new profiles... Posted: 7/15/2006 9:00:16 AM | If I am not mistaken BigPapaG stated in this thread it takes four reports.
I would guess Admin would not want one person's report making the decision, because they might be biased by mail interaction with the person that has the profile.
|
| Query - new profiles... Posted: 7/15/2006 11:46:43 AM | You are mistaken... for I was discussing the RATE A NEW PHOTO (where it was my understanding that members at large could accept or delete a photo that someone had posted) .... not the review of profile photos. Anyone reporting a photo gets attention as soon as someone can take a look.
There is a REPORT feature on the bottom of everyone's profile that you can use if you want.
|
| Query - new profiles... Posted: 7/15/2006 3:24:37 PM | Hey, all:
Pics that don't "look" like they may be lifted from the web should be okay, ....as they always have.
Okay, this covers 'reasonableness' about using a fake photo from the web not your own. But what about printed material being used as the source of a fake photo? That DO " "look" like they may be lifted from" a magazine? Are there no rules against using some picture of some Calvin Klein wannabe from Cosmo, scanning it, and sticking it up on an oh-so-fake, oh-so-vague, oh-so-sensitive, oh-so-tired-of-the-same-scene, smarmy profile? Magazine-quality photo layouts with scanner scan lines on them?
Yes, this IS a dating site, not an escapist fiction site: 'Oh, I want to join PoF: it's SO cool! But....oh, shuckers, I don't have a picture!! Oh, huh, silleee meee!--My ad for Levi's in Rock Beat!! LOL!! Well, I'll just get my Auntie to scan it so I can use that!' Gimme a break. Can anything be more fake, more fraudulent?
This falls into the same category of honesty as incorporated into your rules, does it not?

| Cartoons, joke pics, Cats, Monkeys, WEB PICS, etc. ARE BANNED. Posted: 7/27/2006 10:45:29 PM | Oh don't take the cow...not the cow!!!!
Mr. Moo is a legend and we all look forward to the Moo. That is his calling card like a business card if you will. You cannot force someone to change their Business logo unless it's copyright infringement, that’s for another forum thread I would think. I think as long as they have a real picture of themselves up that it should be ok. Obviously Mr. Moo has posted his silly nose licking handsome tongue pic up. I for one love the cow it makes me giggle...how about we ban those people without any pictures at all? Or those who post false pics? Better yet everyone must submit a recent, within the last few days; picture of themselves kind of like a ransom photo...must be holding a recent newspaper for proof of date the pic was taken, and a valid birth certificate? That would make life easier wouldn't it?
Get rid of the silly pics if there is no actual photo of person in the profile, not a group pic those are confusing, a nice individual picture...that seems more reasonable to me.
