I like your style Racy

Every third Saturday I drive from Gold Coast to Brisbane, fly to Townsville, have my day and then fly home again either Sunday night or Monday morning and then drive back down the Coast.

They're good dates lol.

I sold a house and moved over your side of the woods gcangel for a relationship. It lasted 3 years, I learnt alot.
Life is meant to be lived. I cant do that hiding under my comfort zone.

I dont understand people who wont give something a chance if there is a real spark there

I couldnt agree with you more racygirl.

I'm having a 9 day stay with him in August - if it goes well and I dont kill him lol I'll be coming back, breaking the lease, quitting the job and moving up there.

You only live once and if you have to move for spark it is so worth it

Sounds like racygirl and gcangel are really racking up the frequent flyer points. Hope it all goes very well for you both.
The most i have ever travelled for a date was to ulverstone in tasmania. i loved it there, not only the date but the north coast of tasmania was very beautiful.

I met my last ex whilst travelling. On another overseas trip I made a detour to visit him in UK. Three months later he came to to my house. With best intentions, we made the effort to see one another every 3 months; I went there, he came here, we started meeting in Bali after a holiday and he fell in love with it.

The reality of it was it cost us a lot of money to do that. Our next bright idea was to built a house on an island just off Bali and when he was on leave we'd head there.

Our time together became holiday mode and that's surreal. The true reality is I wasn't about to move to UK and his job didn't allow him to move here.

I have no idea how far we travelled in 2 years but it was worth it even though I'll never do another long distance anything again.

How far is 75 miles from my city anyway?

Yeah I would travel, I do for everything else, why not a date?

Feel very sorry for Perthites. The next closest city to me is interstate; Adelaide, a 3hr flight. (Bali is 3 1/4hrs and cheaper to get to).

Yeah, true hey! WA should be split into 3 states I reckon. Similar to the east coast.

That way the whole state would not be so ruined, just part of it.

heaps. (melbourne being my nearest capitol city) those people don't even want to leave their own postcode. but don't worry they will travel an hour in their car to go 30km!

As far as how far one should go just for a date. I suppose that depends on how much money you have and how much freedom you have.

Basically I agree with what is written bellow. Why make what is all ready hard, harder by trying to make something work long distance.

Here is a excerpt from a readers digest article called "The Science of love":

"Home Is Where It’s At

Forget about long-distance romances:
proximity rules. Being situated close
to your potential love object – whether
at the next desk or in the next street
– ensures repeated exposure, beneficial
because the more we see someone, the
more we like them (unless we strongly
disliked them at first exposure, in
which case the opposite is true). That’s
why we so often end up with workmates
or the boy/girl next door."

Nooooooooooooooo.... it's not sad, it's just different. I love where I live...have actually dumped the wheels off the old gypsy wagon and kind of set up camp here. Metaphorically, of course.

I live an extremely peaceful and easy lifestyle.....would have to be one special guru to budge me at the moment..... mmmm 'budge'

thats a great point, most people do travel a reasonable distance for important stuff...is not the potential of a love life important??
I find it very amusing when chating on line and i always get asked where do you live? my reply is "does it matter? how far would you travel to meet someone?"
their answer is usually a good indicator if they are willing to move out of there comfort zone.

For some people, who are emotionally intense and or attach very easily, some geographical distance may help to put in the boundaries and create a more healthy and balanced relationship.

On the other side though, is that seeing someone often canbe a reality check and stops us from idealising the other persn and the relationship.
what do other s think?

From my own perspective LDR's can be emotionally draining and hard work. But we had only been seeing each other a couple of weeks when the opportunity to work away was presented and accepted by him due to his personal circumstances at the time.

But the attraction and possibility was there which is why we text, email or phone every day and catch up in person every third weekend. And the funny thing is I really hate flying! lol

The good side of it is that you dont rush into things too quickly and you dont neglect any aspect of your day to day life or your relationship with family and friends during that first flush of romance.

The bad side is probably the lack of physical affection when you've had a really bad day and need a cuddle.

But I for one will say going outside of my comfort zone on this one has certainly been 100% worth it to date no matter how hard it is.

Well it all depends on the type of date. Apparently all the nice ones are from overseas but that would be very expansive, so I suppose I'll travel up to Safeway and the ones they sell in fresh produce area is much nicer than the packaged ones.
