For Women Only ! Is there sex after hysterectomy ?

I had my hysterectomy a few years ago and man what a difference! I had uncomfortable sex and the most painful periods before. Now its like I am brand new! No pain and boy do I enjoy sex now even cum in gushers. I guess I don't fear preggers anymore.

Talk to your doctor , and read up on why you feel like someone jacked your womanhood

How can you allow yourself to feel empty inside?

This if anything should be the best time of your life.

I had a total hysterectomey 2 1/2 years ago and it was the best thing to happen to me. Sex is wonderful, no periods, mood swings, cramps. I didn't even need HRT. If you are having problems, talk to your doctor and get on something to fix it. You don't lose your womanhood just by having a hysterectomy - it gives you freedom!

I haven't ran across very many women that have had a mental issue with hysterectomy. All the ones I know have the attitude that "the playground is still there, just the baby maker is gone".....yippeeeeeee. And no, I havent had a hysterectomy, but I have quite a few friends that have. No big deal really. Most are very grateful for it.

It's been 7 years for me. Still have the ovaries, but my drive and enjoyment has never been better. Most of the ladies here have commented about being free from periods, cramps, etc and I'm with them all the way. Life started when I kicked those friggin parts to the curb!!! It's good OP that you're finding a new doc. Something's definitely not right there!

"I don't have the parts.. but i got the box they came in!!!" .. lol ...
I'm going to start using that one ... good job! I usually just tell the guys that for over 20 years now it's just ... practice, practice, practice.

My last boyfriend ... it's been a few years now ... had a vasectomy long before I met him. My dog had been "fixed" since she was a young puppy. And of course I had my hysterectomy back in the 80's. Technically, we were a real infertile bunch ... so we used to kid about our "it" status. Never kept us from totally enjoying each other ... no worries for sure.

When we lost our baby girl, in the eighth month, the doctor said that my late wife should never try to conceive again... She was still in the hospital when I got my vascectomy.

I never regretted it..It made no difference, whatever!..Some years later, she had to have
a hysterectomy performed..

Well, I was 'shooting blanks' and she wasn't worried about getting pregnant..Both
procedures enhanced our sex life... For 24 years!!!

Some serious self-education is the first step. Taking responsibility to find out all, and I mean ALL you can about the effects of a hysterectomy (female castration) is the first step. There are tons of universities, medical teaching universities that have info online, as well as tons of regular research facilities. Women need BOTH male and female hormones. If the ovaries remain but start to fail, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) metabolizes in the liver and reduces any free testosterone in the blood. If the ovaries are removed with the uterus, (which too is important organ for orgasm because of the nerves attached to it), then you have lost the maker of testosterone. Both instances need replacement. A prescribed mixture of estrogen and testosterone cream applied to the clitoris helps some women too. Good frank discussions with your physician or find another who will listen, is what is needed too. The-Clitoris.com is a good site for frank information. just do the searches for info - it's out there, it's good to help yourself first!

I had a hysterectomy when I was 32, and had everything removed, including the ovaries. I was on replacement therapy for years, and even had the implants which worked wonders. I had to get off the replacement therapy for medical reasons 8 years ago, and it changed me some but everything seems to be working fine as far as sex drive is considered.

OP there could be a good reason for the doctors not ordering the HRT, so I would talk to the original doc first and go from there

Hysterectomy victims, yes I say victims

I do not consider myself a victim as all. My hysterectomy was medically necessary and after I healed my life has been nothing short of beautiful. My sex drive has not diminished one bit.

I never considered myself a victim either. I had a hysterectomy at 40, but they left my ovaries. I am now 53 and through menopause. Through everything I never had a change in sexual feeling.

For those who've mentioned "partial hysterectomy", a partial hysterectomy is removal of the uterus leaving the cervix (entrance of the uterus at the top of the vagina). A total hysterectomy is removal of the uterus and the cervix (the surgery done most commonly in the US). An oophorectomy is removal of the ovaries.

Agedwonder,

Removal of the uterus plus ovaries is a total hysterectomy plus oophorectomy (or reomoval of ovaries).

I found complete emancipation when I had my hysterectomy 17 whole years ago.

I took HRT for a number of years through the early menopause and am off them as this stage has passed.

I am a complete woman and enjoy all it has to offer me.

AgedWonder:

Oh my goodness.

I feel I was very fortunate...no side effects or long term ramifications. Five years of taking HRT and it did help me a tremendous amount.

I have been off of the meds for about three months and except for the occassional "tropical" feeling, have pretty much decided menopause is done.

Having said that, if there was an issue with the meds, I would have stopped them as well. I read about some of the things that can occur when one is taking HRT and tried to remain educated about it...seems the medical profession is always discovering not only new things about older meds, but coming up with options.

Girl Power!

Let's certainly hope so. The facts spell a hopeful outcome.

My desire for sex has never diminished as a result of my complete hysterectomy. And this took place when I was in my thirties. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Then again...maybe not so lucky When your single and work all the time... it can be quite frustrating

Taking out the "parts" inside shouldn't make a difference in how you "feel" sexually, I think the fact that women have been "told" for so long that they "lose desire" after surgery is just an "old wives" tale and because you believe it, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The biggest sex organ in the human body is between the ears--the brain! I realize that hormones or lack thereof can have some effect on libido, but having worked in the medical field for many many years, including in sexual health, my observation is that "as a man (on in this case woman) thinketh in his hears, so is he/she" is pretty true. If you believe it will "change you" it WILL change you...HRT has many down sides. I took it for 10 yrs and I could tell some differences when I stopped, but now that more women are off of HRT, the breast cancer rate is falling rapidly. Short term HRT, maybe, but no long term is my choice...exercise for bone health or various medications for that are possible.

My libido has never been better even though I had my hysterectomy at age 30 (I'm 60 now) and never missed the cramps or mess.

I had a complete hysterectomy 7 years ago and was on HRT which I quit due to migraines. Without the hormones that the ovaries produce, especially estrogen, the vagina over the course of time begins to atrophy. Estrogen plays an important role in lubrication and preventing this atrophy which by the way, can contribute to painful intercourse which is certainly not conducive to pleasure. Best thing for the originator of this post is to consult her GYN and discuss her concerns there. Some women do just fine without HRT, even in the absence of ovaries. Others don't and need it and there are avenues with HRT that are not necessarily taking a pill every day. I would have to further state that hysterectomy does not take aware desire or interest in sex in and of itself. You may well be one of those women that needs HRT for a while unless other risk factors outweigh the benefits thereof. In any event, one of the posts here mentioned about the mind or brain being in effect the main sex organ was absolutely correct. Another aspect that could impact on desire is how you feel about your hysterectomy. For some women, just as it is for some men about vasectomy - they feel they have lost their womanhood with the hysterectomy. A good counselor if that applies to you can help you work through that.

Yes, libido takes a nosedive. Can't adjust so quickly during menopause. Men find it near impossible to cope with all the changes in women. All too many changes to adjust to. What happened to men/women seeking love/sex?

"I realize that hormones or lack thereof can have some effect on libido, but having worked in the medical field for many many years, including in sexual health, my observation is that "as a man (on in this case woman) thinketh in his hears, so is he/she" is pretty true. I should have checked that post a little closer--It should read "heart"--as a person "thinketh in his HEART, so is he"--so if you believe your libido will decrease after hysterectomy (or vasectomy) it will.

The other poster was right that lack of hormones does cause the mucas membranes to atrophy, it also causes the muscles in the area to lose elasticity and that is why many women of "this age" or after hysterectomy lose urine (among other reasons) However, there are all kinds of lubrication available now that take away the "dryness" that comes with decreased production of mucus in the vagina.

There are pills to overcome ED in men which allows them to continue to execise their libido, but as far as I know there is no pill to increase libido--the advice for counseling I think is probably the best "treatment" for decreased libido. Alcohol will decrease inhabitions, if that is the problem, but usually isn't a good solution for the long term.

There is no medical "reason" that I know of for a person to have no or very low libido, unless you remove the brain. So if anyone was having a problem with libido, I would suggest that they seek counseling to get to the root of the real problem. My grandparents were still "getting it on" in their 80s.
