| For Women Only ! Is there sex after hysterectomy ? Posted: 5/31/2009 6:32:04 PM | Sex has never been so good or so frequent since my hysterectomy. Your comment that even your womanhood was taken seems to suggest a psychological issue. Do your research. Search for Robin McGraw's (Dr. Phil's wife) info on natural HRT.
Good luck and best wishes.

| For Women Only ! Is there sex after hysterectomy ? Posted: 5/31/2009 6:33:16 PM | Haven't had one; but as a woman, have thought about it, and breast cancer, seriously. And studied on the issues as I've had many many friends who've had one and/or the other. And ended up pretty outraged at the goodle boy medical profession.
Vis a vis hysterectomies, the removal of ovaries is nearly always not necessary and is prophylactic against ovarian cancer (which is rare, and very slow growing). Which is sort of like removing fingernails to prevent hangnails. Additionally, ovaries continue to function and provide a number of hormones besides estrogen late into a woman's life. HRT is, at very best, only a partial solution to a very unnatural procedure which in no way mimics menopause.
About breast cancer. Pretty well known for a couple of decades now that a lumpectomy plus chemo OR radiation has a success rate of a radical mastectomy. Mothers of friends when I was a child had mastectomies so radical that muscles down to their elbows were removed or butchered. They were unable to lift their arms, and had serious fluid retention problems.
HRT and breast cancer. I actually read the studies when NIH stopped the trial. The rate without HRT was about 1 in five hundred. HRT did in fact raise it to about 2 in 750. . . . The actual numbers were never mentioned. Only the percentage. . . . Scare tactics? Maybe not, but I tend to believe so.
Will leave you with: Ladies pay attention! Do your own research. Get second and third and fourth opinions on *everything* radical and long lasting a doctor wishes to do to your body. (Same in fact goes for the guys!)
Peace.

Let's not forget that response will be completely different depending on whether or not a woman has had her ovaries removed, and, if not, whether they're still functioning. The removal of the ovaries for a woman is like the removal of the testcles for a man. Sexual response will be still there, but it won't be the same.
Where did that info come from? Sexual response isn't the same alright, it is better. Sex drive varies from person to person under normal circumstances. I had a total, had troubles with all of it, heard too many stories about women having to have a second surgery. There was a drastic change in my sex drive after divorce, LOL. Seriously though, if there is a drastic reduction in sex drive, energy levels or any ill effects after any surgery and your doctor is not addressing it, find another doctor.

| Is there sex after hysterectomy ? [subject edited] Posted: 7/2/2009 8:22:34 PM | oh my gosh, I feel so incredibly bad / sad / mad for you!
I had to have a total hysterectomy at 37 when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The surgery was immediate and my recovery complete.
I guess I must just be one of the very fortunate ones because I continued after a few months to continue to have a decent sex life (considering the disaster my marriage was in). then, following my divorce, I just went without ... oh well. but, my path did cross a very wonderful, handsome and (in my opinion) very sexy man and I was revived completely!
I do not take any drugs, but I do take herbal supplements, vitamins, keep a good diet, exercise and have a very active life!
I hope you will continue to give yourself every opportunity to heal and to get back to a full life!

It has made a huge difference to the quality of my life and I don't even have a man in it. I can get 8 hrs sleep uninterrupted and I don't get aggravated several times a day with crippling hot flashes.
Personally, I'd rather stay on them, live a quality life and die sooner rather than live a longer life of misery.

| Is there sex after hysterectomy ? [subject edited] Posted: 7/2/2009 10:01:22 PM | | As others have mentioned, I don't think the hysterectomy is the problem. I don't consider myself a victim of hysterectomy. It was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Put an end to a whole lot of misery, and if anything, it enhanced my sex drive. | |

| Is there sex after hysterectomy ? [subject edited] Posted: 7/2/2009 11:47:42 PM | | Yes there is....I have a very high labido. I get hormone pellets injected every 6 months. Get professional help. Don't fake it, be honest with yourself and your partner. It is no fun faking it....unless you enjoy one sided sex??? I saw a wonderful Dr. that changed my life. You should seek help in making yourself feel young and vibrant again...there is help. It took me 4 years after my hysterectomy, but I found it and am so much alive and well:) | |

| Is there sex after hysterectomy ? [subject edited] Posted: 7/3/2009 8:35:47 AM | First of all, why is this considered to be a gender specific question? I had a hysterectomy and any changes emotionally or sexually from that affect any males in my life as well. I am sure there are some men out there who can share their experiences after a woman has a hysterectomy.
I had a very active sex life after my hysterectomy, but because my cervix was removed as well as the uterus it did change how things felt during sex for my husband, and this may have contributed to the marriage break up. Just be up front with anyone who you are considering having sex with and things should be ok. Part of the problem with you sex drive may be that you are feeling like you are not 'whole'. Seek out a sex therapist and see if they can help you.
