| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/7/2009 10:06:58 PM |
So my question here is, why do guys decide that they should try to pick up their server/bartender.... the most sober girl there, that know's how many drinks you've consumed? Because she's NOT drunk, so she probably won't change her mind later, and because she won't have 5 friends crowding round her, like she's mentally retarded and needs people to tell her what to do.
Would you hit on the bank teller? Been tempted at least once. Sometimes, them bank tellers flirt with guys a lot.
I've worked as many different things, but it seems to only happen to me when I am a server. Any ideas? Yeah. Wear real horrible clothes and make-up. Oh, wait. Then you won't keep your job.
Learn to say NO. A lot. It gets easier with practice.

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/7/2009 11:39:06 PM | While many servers are attractive lady's, anyone who hits on them in a rude manor is obviously delusional or playing the numbers game as I suspect was the case in the instance (and pickup line) mentioned by the OP.
I have always tried to befriend the servers in an establishment that I would frequent. I would simply be polite, friendly, pay my tab, leave a good tip, and leave. This would result in exceptional service in the future in most cases. In some cases both the server and I would refer to each other as dear, darling and/or sweetie. it meant nothing sexual and we both knew it. We were simply friends that met at her place of employment.
I have also been invited to and attended parties with the servers "crowd" after hours and had waitresses hit on me at the party. While flattered, I never did take advantage of that situation.
I have to still agree with the 'She brings me beer and food. She must be good!' answer.

Because a lot of men can't tell the difference between someone who is professionally nice to them and personally nice to them. Exactly...
Having bartended for a while because it was both lucrative, and kept my days free to attend classes, I smiled, joked and flirted with guys because that was my job. The last thing on my mind was taking things beyond my shift to after hours.
Hell, between classes, the kids and working, I didn't really have a free moment to spare for anything else at the time...

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/8/2009 3:53:31 AM | Having been a bartender for over six years; I know it gets old. I don't think it has as much to do with a man hitting on you while you are working as a server as it does have to do with him showing no tact about it. However had you came to know this guy after being a patron of the establishment where you work for some time and he had shown tact I see nothing wrong with asking you out if done more tactful. However this was not the case in your situation. Just goes to show the world is still full of idiots.

most people go to a bank to get,or deposit money. ------people go to a bar to get laid.
I am a waitress at a non-alcholic restraunt ,part time on the weekends...... I get the same rude Sh*t!!! I could be waiting on one table and the "guys" at another table will be vulgar and loud about the shape of my Ass. Or constantly calling my name and wanting absolutely NOTHING, other then my agreement to accept their phone number. Or the MOST hated..... grabing my hand and kissing it ,or rubing it. Mind you , this is a FAMILY Establishment..... NOT a strip club!

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/8/2009 8:56:20 AM | | Shy guys and guys who have trouble approaching women are often advised to talk to every woman they come in contact with and to flirt with them as well. That's what successful guys do isnt it? A guy makes contact with a bartender or waitress in a natural, unforced, situation, and the woman is (professionally) pleasant. Flirtation is much easier in that situation than approaching a woman soley for the purpose of "hitting" on her. That's not to excuse inapproprite behavior on the part of men, but we're always told that meeting women is a numbers game and we have to "put ourselves out there". Personally, I've always assumed that bartenders and waitresses had all the attention from men that they wanted. | |

Thats basically what it is in a nutshell..a lot of servers have either a flirtatious tone of voice or smile and most guys mistake that for "she likes"..i bet if most serves werent smiling at lot of the times "seem flirty" guys would not hit on them so much?...i know this because it has happened to me many times though i dont usually act on it because i come to my sense and realize that she is just "nice" like that because its part of her job..
yeah, partially that..she is "nice" to them..loking for a good tip?
so they think that means she "likes" them.
it could be (OK, sorry, non-PC I know, but..reality? ) that they consider a server as 'lower status' than themselves and thus not able to object too much.
many of the guys that do this probably would NOT 'hit on' a female police officer, airline pilot, bank president, executive, etc.., etc.?

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/8/2009 12:58:00 PM | | why? because the bartenders and waitresses are usually good looking. i dont think there is a guy here that never tried to pick up a waitress or something along those lines. actually, theres probably a lot. | |

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/8/2009 1:02:07 PM | | Unlike the other women in the bar or restaurant that are available, the waitress/bartender HAS TO TALK to you, and HAS to be nice to you and it will probably be the closest they get to a female all night unless they bump into one by accident at closing time on their way home to jack off. | |

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/8/2009 2:12:59 PM | Usually the server is good looking, being friendly, talking to them, bringing them food and drink and paying attention to them. That is all it takes in life fow a scwhing moment with guys.If a woman in real life does those same things she is going to get hit on too. They have an opportunity.
"Oh yeah baby, she is looking at me and talking to me. She wants me."

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/8/2009 2:18:32 PM | Okay, OP, that was a brutal approach and not many guys can read a woman accurately at the best of times. Throw in some liquid courage and the ugliest guy thinks that he is Brad Pitt. Hit on a Bank Teller, done it. Woman in the rug store, no but her daughter working along side her, yes. Actually my Mom scoped out that one for me. Girl working in the China shop where my sister was registered when she was married, yup dated her too! You get the idea yet? | |

Female Servers / Male Servers - MOST are Friendly, look you in the eye, smile ... etc.
I think "Nice" (regardless of where it appears) is attractive and am guessing that 'that' is the allure.

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/22/2009 10:34:22 AM | To be honest Theres not too many places to meet girls once your out of school or work in an industry with mostly men like in my case. Actually the last time i was at the bank there was a new teller there and she asked me if there was anything else i would like so I said your # on my reciept she wrote it down and i was on my way. I wont make it too obvious if i hit on a server but I wont let the chance pass me by so i can dwell on the thought of what if ? Something cheesey and simple like a joke Q: What did the elephant say to the naked man? A: “It’s cute, but can you pick up peanuts with it?”
Like that. All in all When i go out to a pub i go to drink and if someone catches my eye you better beleive ill have some witty joke to make them laugh.

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/22/2009 10:42:55 AM | I don't think it matters what people do for a living. If theres attraction then go for it. I have done alot of jobs and got hit on while working. Maybe that's it, they like a person who has a job! | |

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/22/2009 11:15:08 AM | | I sure know I like a Girl with a Job Although dating a homeless girl would be great after the date you can drop her off anywhere and she would be home. Joking . | |

So my question here is, why do guys decide that they should try to pick up their server/bartender.... the most sober girl there, that know's how many drinks you've consumed? A few possibilities:
1) He's not seeing you as dating material, but as the local whore to nail. Seen that a lot with****ail servers and shot girls at bars and clubs. They're not interested in a RL as much as nailing said girl because they assume she's not making a lot of money and such, so she might be impressed with the guy who can come in a buy many rounds. They believe they are in a "better" standing than the server, so they think they have a better chance.
2) Like someone else said, all the women in the bar/club are crowded in their cliques and making it hard for men to approach, and yet there you are alone and available.
3) Some take the friendly service as flirtation.
4) Servers in many establishments are often attractive. So if the guy is in a bar where most of the women are overweight, dressed down, etc...and yet there is this pretty girl in a short skirt serving them...it's natural for guys to elevate to that one over the other choices.
Would you hit on the bank teller?
If we seemingly clicked socially when I came in. Like we chat personally, she is super friendly, interested in my life, and even flirts with me a little.
Basically if I see clear signals.

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/22/2009 6:24:26 PM | | Uhhh, news flash....It's not just guys. My first two years of undergrad I worked as a waiter and there was no shortage of older ladies (the hip term now, I think, is "Cougars") who would try and pick me up. I learned to flirt a lot, and got really big tips. It put me through the first two years of college until I got a full time job. | |

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/22/2009 11:24:50 PM | I work at a restaurant with a lot of younger men and women. Some of the women get hit on regularly. Most of the servers, both male and female are attractive and very friendly. A couple have walked back to the kitchen and mentioned situations before. One has walked back a few times and point blank told me "so this guy at the table just asked me for my phone number...akward" and so on. I think it's because the servers usually have to be friendly and the people being waited on assume that means more than it does. We get to hear all the good stuff when they walk back to the kitchen though. ;)
Would I ask a bank teller out? Sure, why not? ;)
How about I give you a story of what I went through when I worked in retail (I'm not going to be too specific here)...
I was helping a guy out with an order when he started bringing something up about modeling and how I should talk to him about it. Now, I had talked to the guy before, but didn't know his past (I'll get into that later). Anyhow, I just casually somewhat ignored that and said something ab9ut working on becoming a chef. What does he say to me?
"You should pose as a chef with your pants hanging really low...really really low"
I have nothing against a man hitting on me even though I'm straight (hey, it's kind of flattering), but this man has a wife and two children, not to mention the comment was just unnecessary. He asked me for my phone number after that. Now THAT was akward...

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/23/2009 3:26:38 PM | | I bartended for years. I have to put on my charming flirtacious personality to make the money. A good bartender will remember the name and their drink. If a gentleman comes back and it's only his second visit and I greet him by name , ask if he'd like a Crown and coke....He's thinking, "Damned, I must have made an impression on her!" When actually I'm a semi genius. I'm working him. He's not working me. If I made any typos...that's the semi part. Also, a man needs four things to be happy: food, drink, the remote and sex. At a bar you can get the first three easily enough, of course they're thinking the 4th!! Why not try? | |

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/24/2009 8:58:21 AM | | I met my ex wife in a restaurant where she was a waitress (although they didn't serve alcohol). I thought she was cute and made it a point to sit in her station whenever I went in. We got to chatting a few times and I asked her out. I think guys (in general) try to pick up waitresses because most waitresses are (naturally) in search of tips and try to be friendly and perhaps a bit flirtatious, and we misinterpret that for personal interest. (And in places where alcohol is served, multiply that times 10!) | |

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/25/2009 6:59:44 AM | Because we men are stupid. We wrongly think a woman wants us when she's merely being nice because her job requires it. I'd be richer than Bill Gates if I had a dollar for everytime an idiot pal of mine brags about some server, bartender or stripper wanting him just because she called him "sweetie," "honey," or any other generic southern belle phrase to make men have the false sense of being wanted.
Being a former bouncer, I learned thru observation the hardest chicks to pick up in a bar are the servers and the bartenders. Guys should not even try. If she likes you, she will let you know. Otherwise, quit making yourself into their conversation fodder as they close.

| Why Do Guys Try To Pick Up Their Servers??? Posted: 1/27/2009 10:03:48 PM | This last weekend I went to a party at a local biker bar and dayumed straight I flirted with the waitress... She was a hot redhead!!! (Sorry I am a sucker for redheads)
I do hope I was not over bearing, just flirtatious...
