Sleep disorders are very serious & can lead to major complications in one's life.

I have suffered for years, & up to now all attempts by various doctors have failed to make an impact. I can stay up for days on end without sleep, & to make it worse, if I do find any meds that help me sleep the side effects are even worse.

Anyone who thinks they have a genuine problem should seek help, the longer it continues the harder it is to get out of.

I have a friend who started with insomnia and ended up on some heavy duty anti-psychotic drugs, it totally ruined her life and she's only 21. I would try every other option before medication.

I have infrequent bouts of insomnia, usually because I've got too much going on in my head; also as I've got older alcohol seems to have this effect which is one of the many reasons I don't drink anymore.
I know a few relaxation techniques but they don't have much effect on my (what's that all about?) I always read before sleep no matter how tired I am this makes you concentrate and gives you something else to think about.
My favourite tried and tested method is to imagine you've won the lottery, what would you spend the money on, I always imagine a big house then I think of how I would decorate & furnish it, I'm usually asleep before I've got further than 2 rooms.

There's a fairly simple way to cure insomnia..
I worked nights for just shy of 6 years and on my days off used to hate
having to go to bed at normal times.

Its basically your pattern and body clock thats all messed up..
This is what you want to try...

Stay up for a full 24 hours, eat your meals at normal times and get
exercise.

then when its time to go to bed try and go to bed at a reasonable time...

So my question would be....... What is the point in buying such a big house ?

I suffer from insomnia. I wish it were that easy. Stress can be a major cause of poor sleep patterns. My GP doesn't believe in giving out medication for this, in about 20 years of poor sleep patterns I've had a 2 week course of sleeping pills and a 6 month course of anti depressants. I don't like nytol either, it makes me feel horrible the next day. You can suffer from insomnia without working nights or shifts, I used to work shifts but don't now and I'm still a poor sleeper.
I'd say avoid alcohol, it might knock you out but you'll get a poor sleep. Insomnia can also be a symptom of depression although it doesn't necessarily mean you have depression if you can't sleep

Hey ghosthaze, have you tried Quietlife herbal sleeping tablets, i used to work shifts and they helped a lot. You can buy them from your local pharmacy.

JCL

I would need a big house because
a) I can afford it
b) I can pay someone else to clean it
c) I love animals and would fill it with pets
d) My desire for interior design knows no bounds
e) It gives me an excuse to shop
