"Yes, dear you can pick out what ring you want."
20 years later I still wish it was World War 2 so I could bomb her parents house in Germany legally.
I did learn one important thing though, when your future inlaws shower you with love and affection it is more a selfish act on their part than anything else.
They want nothing to screw up you taking their batshit crazy daughter off their hands.

| what is the dumbest thing you have ever done? Posted: 2/2/2009 2:50:21 PM | Very tall row of trees dividing a drop zone from a farmer's acreage in Lyndon, WA. I jumped out of the plane, was so much in awe with the sights that at some point I'm guessing I neglected to follow the arrow pointing me in the right wind direction. Missed the drop zone by about 50 feet & landed on the wrong side of the trees in the farmer's field, missing the power lines by a mere 10 feet (I'm told). Wind caught in my chute & dragged me across the field for what seemed like forever. When the wind died down I quickly gathered up my chute to find the farmer standing there pointing a rifle at me.
Decided to play dumb to avoid being shot at & sweetly asked for directions back to the drop zone. The farmer said I wasn't going anywhere until the sheriff arrived 'cause he was having me arrested for trespassing. Sheriff showed up, tried to talk the farmer out of the arrest but he wouldn't change his mind. I got hauled to the sheriff's office where everyone broke into tears of laughter when they found out that the crazy ole farmer was actually pressing charges. After arguing with the farmer for hours, he finally dropped the charges & they let me leave. Next time, pay attention to those arrows.

| what is the dumbest thing you have ever done? Posted: 2/2/2009 3:41:12 PM | I was once riding downhill super fast on my 10-speed when my b/f, ahead of me made an unexpected left turn. Instead of continuing on, then turning around to follow him, I spontaneously decided to swerve left & follow him. In the process, my bike went over a bump, my chain slipped off & I lost pedal control.
I swerved to avoid hitting the curb 'cause I didn't want to damage my road racing bike & ended up crashing head first into a parked truck at the corner. My b/f came back to find me blacked out on the street with blood pouring from my ear & head & freaked 'cause he thought I was dead. I ended up with a concussion for 6 mths, spent a year walking into anything in my path ... walls, telephone poles, people, etc., damaged my cervical spine & my balance is still slightly off. Can everyone spell "klutz"?

| what is the dumbest thing you have ever done? Posted: 2/3/2009 2:45:23 PM | I agree with all those who said, letting your heart & emotions make your decisions instead of using your brain was pretty dumb. That applies to me now.
But breaking off my engagement to my first b/f has to be the dumbest thing I've done because I know if I had stuck it out, we would have had a fun & solid, lifetime marriage. I tossed aside our feelings for each other & left him because it wasn't practical to stay with him. Didn't occur to me that had I had a little more patience, all those impractical things would have been resolved within a few years.
So I've screwed up by letting my heart rule my head but in that case, I screwed up by allowing my head to rule over my heart ... which proves that either way you do it, you're screwed.

| what is the dumbest thing you have ever done? Posted: 2/3/2009 4:13:45 PM | I crawled, because I could not walk, (I was actually on a wait list for back surgery) out of bed and down the stairs at 4 in the morning, made it to my car and drove out to the middle of nowhere to bail out my boyfriend at the time, who called me in distress because he had just totaled his truck while he was out on a bender. Oh, and did I mention it was my birthday that day and that was the first I'd heard from him?
And now I've just admitted this in a public forum. That's pretty dumb, too.

| what is the dumbest thing you have ever done? Posted: 2/7/2009 12:30:17 PM | My God, some of this stuff is pretty funny, and reminded me that the most often quoted "last words" are...
"Well, just before they died they said, 'Here, hold my beer and watch this...'"
And the rest of the posts... poignant, thanks for sharing.
Me? Oh no, not on a public forum!!!! There may still be a warrant out there, or someone with a weapon, or......

| what is the dumbest thing you have ever done? Posted: 2/8/2009 1:15:03 PM | Midnight last night, I raced up the stairs to the bathroom in the dark, as I always do because I know my way to the bathroom & the distance to the potty. I assumed the bathroom door was open because it always is, however, my son had come over to visit & shut the door before he left.
So ... I slam into the door face first at full bladder speed.
My eyes start running with tears, I taste blood in my mouth & my nose feels like it's broken. I'm up 'til 3 a.m. icing the bridge of my nose which is now swollen & throbbing & I have a massive headache. This morning I suspect my nose is not broken but it's still swollen & I see dark circles under my eyes. If I were Caucasian, I would have two fine-looking shiners right now.
*Plucking these blonde streaks out of my hair because my colleagues at work confirmed that I've had one too many 'blonde moments' this week.*
Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! | |
