One of my pet peeves are people that ask for your email address to send a picture of themselves. I think what are they hiding too? If they are not willing to show a picture of themselves on their profile...I am not comfortable giving my email address freely to people I don't know.

Some people will say they don't know how to scan a picture onto their profile. Well I didn't either, so I went to a resource centre and the staff showed me how to scan a picture on to my profile. Other people should take the time to do that as well! '

Lots.....
Overused cliches like "head games". God, I hate that phrase!!!
"Prefer not to say"- that's an automatic Yes. If you have kids, say so. Same with smoking, drinking, etc. Why not be honest from the start?
People mentioning "My kid(s) is/are my first priority" OK, that's a given. But what about yourself and your SO? Aren't you and them important as well?
Bad grammar, worse spelling, short forms for words (e.g. "I'm the 1 4 U")
Boob shots in pics, sorry I'm not interested in anyone "giving it up" in their profile.
No pics, or pics showing something other than the person. I've seen lots of Dreamcatchers, tatoos, fantasy art, one finger salutes, cars, motorcycles etc.
Fortunately, I have found my true love on here. So I don't have to "catalogue shop" any more.

Gee, this is a tough one..let me see if I can come up with a couple. (some will be duplicates of previous posts. I only hope that you all are able to forgive me for re-stating)

1) Bad spelling and/or grammar - especially when people mix up "then" and "than" - They SOUND different. How do you confuse them?
I saw a church sign that said, "There is no greater God then God." I don't think that was the message they intended.

2) People who do not respond at all. It takes mere seconds to type, "Thanks for the email, you seem nice, however I do not think we are a match. Good luck", or something similar. Is politeness a thing of the past?

3) "Irregardless" - that is not a word. (not one of my biggest pet peeves, but bothersome)

4) i h8 it when ppl type evrything to evry1 w/ all kinds of short forms 4 any word they can think of (i c u, r u there?, etc)

5) occasional smokers - you either are or you aren't. That is like saying that you are an occasional virgin. Mind you, this is also a site problem. How about the options being "heavy", "average", "light", or "do not smoke"?

6) People who say, "ask me" instead of filling out their profile. (mine was, but is not completely filled out now, but, it does say "not looking" in the tag line)

7) total unoriginality - how many post, "not looking for players/ head games"? If I do not post that, does it mean that I want someone to play head games with me? (This is only one line, but there are many other common ones). If all you post are the generic lines, how much interest can you attract? We are all guilty once or twice, but try to give it a personal twist.

8) People posting on a thread to say they do not like it.If you don't like the thread, don't post. Better question: Why did you read through so much of it?

9) People who do not post their picture, but tell you they will send one when they respond. What are you afraid of, and how do you expect to garner interest otherwise?

10) People who have too many pet peeves.

Local guys who describe their idea for a first date as 'taking a walk along the boardwalk and grabbing an ice cream'. It's February in Toronto. Take a sec and update, it's easy to do!

Keep your shirt on - If I'm interested in you, I'd like to be the only one with access to your bare chest. Unless it's August at the beach, but it's not is it? (see above)

Lets see, I am fairly new to the site and very new to the forums but from what I have seen so far these are mine.

The *empty* information profiles

Pictures that are not really of you or of pets , cars, etc.

The no shirt pictures, first thing I want to see is your eyes, for me they say a lot about a person.

Profiles that consist of very little information but are full of icons, can you not spend that time posting something useful *about you* in your profile?

Definitly pics where the Woman is cut out..lol..

Profiles that say they are a gentleman, then they email you and they say...so wanna hook up for some mind-blowing s$x..

Pics where they show no head, a pic of their chest, and their jeans undone..yep umm great so you have a chest and a penis..good to know!

Men who list all their toys in the first sentence.. Like I have BMW..a Boat, jetskis..

Yippee, but do you have a personality??

Ok...here are my pet peeves of profiles and online dating sites...

1. Not taking the time to fill in anything in the profile. The majority of people on here have put thought into writing their profile to tell others a bit about themselves, even if it's not creative and witty. I can't stand it when people do that...my belief, and sorry if I come across as rude and bithcy, but if you can't take the time to tell me and others about yourself...why the hell do you think you have anything interesting to message me about.

2. Messaging (this is mostly Instant messaging) based on picture, then asking age/sex/marital status...HELLO...did you not bother to read the profile? I believe those are asked right in the profile.

3. Pics that don't show who you are...these include pics of body parts, too far away shots, blurry pics and group pictures in all your profile pictures. Are we to guess which is you?

4. People who say "No Picture = No response." Are we that shallow?

5. Similar to that last one...people who say "I will respond to all email even if to say thanks, but not interested." Who are you kidding?

6. This is a personal one as I am on here to meet people...people who just want to message and never meet, always pushing the issue to the side.

So, those are my pet peeves

More pet peeves!!!!

1. People who put pictures of cartoon characters up instead of themselves.

2. People who have 1 or 2 pictures up with them ina group of 10. Which person are you???????

3. People who list what they are looking for in a person but don't show the same qualities within themselves.

4. BAD SPELLING AND GRAMMAR.

5. People who say they are not looking for intimate encounters but whose pictures are of them in barely anything on.

Worst thing is old, outdated pictures! If you are planning on actually meeting some people from here - why post pictures from 10 years ago???? They aren't going to recognize you when they see you and in all honesty, it's no different than lying - false pretenses = big fat liar!!

People who say - tell ya later - ummmm no don't bother, I'll go read the thouands of other profiles that actually have info on it...

bad grammar, spelling
the use of U R or any other kind of 'net slang
gratuitous skin shots
"prefer not to say" on the smoking, drinking, children and drugs questions. either you do or you don't...it's a bunch of simple questions.

I think most are in agreement about the more common pet peeves.
For Liam: obese could be mean 150lbs to one person and average to another. Im considered average since Im in a size 32 jeans, size large top but Im also 160lbs because Im muscular. I consider myself average, not obese. Different definition for different people.

As for the pics of kids, I totally agree, don't post them. There is a big scam going on in the dating scene of guys (pedophiles) looking to date single moms just to get at the kids. By posting pics of your kids gives these sickos' more ammunition to work with.

For XTAT2ERRED: Ive never considered looks very important and I"ve always been honest about that (my friends can attest to this). I think with alot of women, like myself, I like to see a face pic to consider the eyes, the smile, the look. Tells alot about a person, sincerity and character just by the "look".

Im one of those people that put "looking for honesty" because I've come across so many guys that are contrary to what Im seeking. They say single, then find out married; they say looking for long term then in their first e-mail wanting a one night stand; they indicate gentleman in their profile and type sexual remarks on their e-mails like "how big are you?" or "nice tits". I guess the word honesty doesn't mean what it used to be back in the day. Different definitions of the word these days, depends on who you are and how you can manipulate its meaning to fit your needs.

My number 1 pet peeve on profiles is when it's clearly obvious that the poster has only posted half the pic -- and traces of another person, probably an ex-mate are still visible along the edges. Turn-off. That says no effort to me. Either post a whole pic of yourself or leave the picture slot empty.

My pet peeve has to be the over used phrase,"life`s too short". I don`t think life is any shorter unless your life expectancy is thirty years or so. People and hem lines are short.

Just reread this thread and have come across a few things that irked me.

coodoes to you!

Actually it's spelled kudos, from the Greek kydos; it's not actually plural but people have over the years invented the word "kudo". Sorry - my mom was an English teacher!

having a picture of your children on POF is just as dangerous as having them on a website

I've now come across a profile wherein the man pixilated (sp?) his kids' faces so they didn't wind up getting photo-shoped into a kiddy porn site. Great idea! It's not about concealing the fact that you HAVE children, it's about protecting them. And I'm not likely to meet the kids on a first date anyway so it's really not necessary to see them on here is it?

And firmbear8, let he who is without sin...your profile consistently spells the word "you're" as "your". Spell check can't catch EVERY mistake you know!

Men who are separated or the ink hasn't yet dried on the divorce papers

My best (male) friend has been separated for about 8 years and is NOT a dating biohazard by any stretch of the imagination. There are lots of guys (and girls) out there who have been divorced for many years and are still emotional black holes!

arctic_wolf, we're not all looking for perfection but 210 pounds on a 5'8" guy is NOT average, fyi. The guys all kvetch about women misrepresenting their body type but men do it too!

And this one slays me - a MAN who describes himself as a masseuse. That's the feminine form of the word; men are masseurs.

And my last pet peeve applies not just to POF profiles but to the demise of the English language in general. Not everybody who is self-employed is an entrepreneur; that word translates from French as "go-between". When I "googled" the definition I managed to find the following:

a contractor acting as intermediary between capital and labour.
www.schoolnet.ca/aboriginal/metis-de/vocab-e.html

That's it for now.

Dar

P.S. Just came across a profile that reminded me of this one - pictures that are sideways! Come on guys there are LOTS of programs that let you rotate the freaking pic before you upload it to your profile.

The first lady I met was upset that I was born in Canada and not from Europe as she was...so, please tell people what you are looking for in a mate!

If you are a smoker, please say so. Don't tell me 'you forgot you smoked'.

If you are a single lady looking to meet a single man, I would prefer to see a photo of you without a man in it, holding you or with his arm around you or kissing you.

A current photo is really appreciated, not a 10 year old photo. It makes it easier to identify someone when you meet.

It all adds up to filling out the profile as completely and honestly as possible.
