| Biker's Posted: 1/24/2007 4:27:08 AM | | Back to the original topic of the thread- the pack I ride with, I am the lowest educated one of the bunch. the rest are all attorneys, doctors, couple college profs, retired CEO's, and one DPS officer. All of us shower regualrly and even with that need we'll take a weekend to get in 1300 miles and have a blast doing it. I just wish whoever had started this thread and said that bikers were glorified woulda stuck around to see that we are not trash and most of us are actually people that will give ya the shirt off our back when we see the need. | |

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 6/25/2007 11:29:13 AM | I do not want to name the motorcycle club because my post is not about rivalry but rather about appreciation and sending out a word of thanks.
My youngest son although he has some cognitive disorders and mental health issues is not as bad off as all that when he wants to get his own way. Fed up that he couldn't behave himself for 4 days in order to make it to my house to have dinner and celebrate his 19th birthday, I let him sit it out in the Don Jail as did the rest of the family who refused to post bail.
When he came out a week later his first words were "now I'm scared of [fill in the blank with the name of any motorcycle club members who may have been in there with him] but I know that I don't have to be if I remember that you are my mother, you love me, and I've got to respect you".
I got off the phone and started LMFAO. Finally someone has got through to the kid that there are two things that are sacred: motherhood and apple pie. God Bless you whoever you are.
The cops, the Board of Education, the mental health system, the ministry of health in general, the family, the church...have all tried but to no avail. I think you missed your calling. If you guys were running Social Services it would no doubt be a whole lot easier to get through a busy day.

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 6/25/2007 12:06:55 PM | I have been born into the world of motorcycles recently............
Wowzers, how much fun it is. And as an added bonus, its darn close to paying for itself in gas savings :)
I have noticed a lot of things contrary to the conversations I have.... -Most notably, regardless of the type of bike you ride......people seem to welcome you, and wave and share that bond...I like that. -With more and more bikes being on the road, and with how horribly people in Ohio drive........I have noticed that it seems as people are becoming more aware of motorcycles and respecting them. I REALLY like that.....I'm very new, and learning, and I would really not like the added stress of being on the bad end of a rather short attention-span. -Cars are cars.........bikes are bikes.........except scooters. I will not wave at a child's toy doing 60mph. They look like the are dignity robbing, oversized roller-skates. ...................at least wear a cool sorta looking helmet.......
I purchased a 1997 Yamaha YZF600.....................its beautiful for a sport-bike. And I am very lucky to be able to ride it right away without the need to do any work to it.
A True Harley rider is in me somewhere, and will emerge at the same time as the funds for one. -----------> TO NOTE: I am really sick of hearing about DEATH and related stories involving motorcyles. I am new, and aside from the shear terror of learning..............I'd like to not think about how soon my head will be seperated.

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 6/25/2007 12:21:24 PM | My late father back in his younger days was a member of "The Devil's Desciples" and later "Hell's Angels". So I grew up around bikes as a kid. I don't remember much of those days, my father and his 2 brothers were all members.. His brother Kenneth was killed while they were all out riding and his days of MC's ended right there. For some reason (which he took with him in death) he and his surviving brother "James" hated each other and never got along since those days. Prior to that event, they we always together, best friends and brothers. When my father was in the hospital waiting to die, my sister had made him a collection of photo's from all that he had. He stared at it for days, then the day before he passed on, I was sitting in his room, just the 2 of us and while he was staring at those pictures he said "its a shame a couldn't trust "Jamesy", my good brother died". No one in our family knew what went on back then to get 2 brothers hating each other till the end.. I often wonder if he had any regrets..
I love riding bikes, but never liked the idea of MC's or even cruisers.. Maybe thats why I like sports bikes? Something only a shrink could probably tell me..
Don't mean to bring the thread down a notch, just something I've never told anyone and been thinking of it a lot lately.. Actualy feels good to blurt it out...

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 8/29/2007 3:41:47 PM | OK, time to revive the biker thread now that we have a few POF rides under our belt.
For something to get us talking, how about this: What do you ride and what made you choose that particular bike? What do you like/dislike about it?

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 8/29/2007 8:15:44 PM | Mine is a black cherry 06 Stratoliner that I bought last September. I wasn't looking for a bike but spotted it on the showroom floor in Cleveland when picking up a bike for a friend of mine. The retro/art deco styling was what I noticed before checking out all the stuff you can't see like an all aluminum frame and an air cooled fuel injected 1900cc/113 cubic inch motor that will take it from zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds...... Had to have it. 13,000 miles later and I like it better all the time. With my last bike that I bought new in 98, the comment was always "Nice bike"!! With this one all I get is "What IS that"??? | |

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 9/5/2007 8:59:54 AM | Mikey, that stratoliner rocks! If I ever buy a cruiser style bike, that would probably be the line I look at. I currently own a Buell and a BMW. Had most brands over the last 32 years except harley. Never had the desire for a cruiser bike, nothing against them, they just dont appeal to me.
I consider myself a motorcyclist, not a biker. I always stop for another bike along the road, no matter the brand, and I wave to others on the road. Heck, I stop in my cage to help someone if they need it.
It is interesting to me that when I started riding, you would wave when you saw another bike because there werent that many on the road. Now on a nice day, you can wear out your arm waving.

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 9/5/2007 10:26:07 AM | Hi all, My beast is a 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000, Yes 2053cc's , Its the biggest production vtwin, 200 series rear tire, stock dyno run was 96 horsepower and 121lbs of torque at the rear wheel, After upgrades of pipes(Hardkrome 3inch big straights and a power commader ) Its pushing 124 horse power and 149lbs of torque at the rear wheel I've owned Harley's and Kaw's in the past, I bought this one when they first hit the floor. It has the look and sound of the Harley without the extra maint. The picture on my profile was taken last year on a trip out through Texas, New Mex, Arizonia, Utah, Colorado, and all the states in between About six thousand miles in two and a half weeks. And as for the yahoo from texas, Texas sucked, To freaking hot to ride, 108 degrees during the day, Straight roads no trees | |

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 9/11/2007 4:46:00 PM | | Those look like mile eating machines. Those and road kings are what I have run into in the middle of nowhere, and meet fellow travelers. What paint do you have? I have seen some really nice paint work on some, but lots of black ones. | |

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 9/12/2007 7:02:17 PM | Wow this thread has run the entire gambit of things to talk about. As I am new here please let me weigh in.
I am also a biker I ride a 95 Dyna Wide Glide with 16" apes lots of chrome and a really, really beefed up engine. Oh! yes I shower reularly also. Humm What else..... Oh! the thought on what bikers are! I have ridden with rolling thunder and alongside many that would not be considered executives. But! I also ride with them. I have been riding for about 30 years. My dad started me on an old Indian with a foot clutch and a tank shifter and although I like to consider myself a Harley guy I also ownd a 750 Honda just like every other Harley rider I know. As far as what we "bikers" are and do well I, like the sounds of most, of you probably do not fit the mold others paint for us. I have an MBA in Finance and retired from the military many years ago. When I am not busy I fly a plane around the mid west rescuing animals from kill shelters. I am new here and came to the site to make friends locally and was told this was not one of those sleazy sites where everyone was only looking for...well you know. So I joined and have talked with lots of very cool folks. Your rides sound like a lot of fun and I was hoping on joining you on one of them. Can anyone tell me when the next one is.
Oh! if you have any questions please ask.

| Bikers Thread- A place for biker's and their thoughts Posted: 9/13/2007 2:27:55 AM | Well, I have to say this. We rented a Harley Electria-Glide for three days and took a small vacation. Went to Marietta the long way round, spent the night and then back home. The only problem is that with me on the back, (and I am no small person), he was crowded for room on the front.
He as the driver liked all the little things, like the radio that adjusts the volume to the speed on it's own. In other words, the faster you go the louder the radio. It was great having the space for packing, because I always overpack us for everything. The gas mileage was really good, somewhere near 200 miles per tank.
The whole key and keyfob thing was a little odd and took some getting used to but other than that it was a nice bike. I can do about 5 and half hours straight on it, then I need to get off and stretch my legs. I was a little cramped on the back and the passenger footboards make things a little awkward for him if he has to walk the bike for any reason.
Right now I am looking for something in a harley with a longer wheel base that can be set up the same way for a passenger with all the storage.
*on a side note, if you make it to Glouster, Bonnie's home cooking is a good place to eat.* And route 550 is a twisty heaven.
