A better question might be... why do you think that 80's hair is not cool. I mean, does it really matter enough that you might start a discussion thread on it. Personally, I don't believe there is such a thing as fashion anymore. People should be and in fact seem to be wearing everything and anything they choose to. Fashion today means, everything and anything, and hairstyle definitely falls into that category. So, let's just accept that acceptance is the key. Let's just let people dress and style their hair as they wish.
I agree totally that I just don't think there is really such thing as fashion or trend anymore. People should be just willing to choose to wear their hair or clothes as they wish.

I mean seriously, how can you not like the Mississippi Mudflap? I'm sure parachute pants and ankle warmers will come back into style. I personally could use an update with my hair, but I'm running out of options.....

There was even the bleached blond with massive black roots, huge, big, wingtipped, poofy bang, look on one lady! Oh, and I always used Rave......the highest #....that crap would hold you through a tornado and it was super cheap! When you were literally using several cans a week it had to be! Gotta save money for the eyeshadow! I now look at those pics and cringe!

I have to say that, when I was in Romania, I saw some very...interesting...hairdos. Apparently mullets and rat tails are "in" over there. Sigh. I'm so glad to be absolutely bald!

| Why do people think 80s hair is still cool? Posted: 7/15/2006 10:56:09 AM | Hi Are you a hairstylist? Do you know of any good trendy styles for medium length hair. I need pictures. I can't find any on internet. My hair is fine but thick on back and sort of a gentle natural wave in it. I find it hard to get a style that suits me. Just growing it out to shoulder length again now almost there. It gets frizzy in dampness. Does it damage hair a lot to have it straightened and do you know how they do that. Also have u ever tried that straightener brush thing they advertise on the shopping channel. any advice would be appreciated. I'd like a nice trendy look but keep my length. thank you | |

What I do (and this sounds bad but really works), after I shampoo and condition really well, I add a bit more conditioner that I don't rinse out. I ONLY brush it when it is wet (that is the one time a day my hair gets brushed) and after it dries everything is done with my fingers. If I get it really messed up, I have to get it wet and start over. It is the only way unless I want a tumbleweed on my head!

Posted: 9/30/2006 4:32:38 AM | well, some 80's hair was great, but for you, i would like to know why you are judging other people that you are not dating, based on their hair, instead of something actually important. did their bad hair actually impeed you from continuing on with your day? try not to focus on what you see as some strangers' short commings, maybe work on why you need to be so judgemental of something so inconsequential. - wait till you see them kick a puppy or shove a disabled person before complaining. not everyone can like everyone or everything. take a pill.

| Why do people think 80s hair is still cool? Posted: 9/30/2006 3:15:14 PM | had you been in your 20's in the 80's when the big hair was THE THING...that you would have gone against the way all your friends were doing their hair and dressing?
***I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I'll answer anyway: I was in my 20s in the '80s and yes, I did the perm thing, but never the big hair/teased/mullet thing. Why? Because I don't have the hair for it, it's way too thin and fine and also, it's way too much work. I saw my sister-in-law wash it and blow-dry it every single morning just so (Farah Fawcett look) and I couldn't get over what a slave she was to that hair style. I kinda like the unkempt look of today; even newscasters have it, like they just rolled out of bed sometimes.

Weird hairstyles, oversized shirts with tight leggings, bold stripes and big bold beads are all coming in.....
80's styles are coming back ! RUN!!!! lol

Mullets are UGLY UGLY UGLY.... shaved heads/Bald will ALWAYS look better then a mullet. Mullets are gone for good. Shaved heads and short hair is in for good and never leaving!!.
The mullet was one of those "it seemed like a good idea at the time" looks, it was a mistake.
Get out of the 80's and get into the post 80's the 90's-2000's era!!

lol I don't know where you've been the last 16 years, but shaved heads DO look good and you can't argue on that, and the people that wore MULLETS looked silly. Shaved heads or bald water is ALWAYS better then a mullet and many other of those ugly 80'a hair do.
BUT hey, it is just hair, so why care either way????

| Why do people think 80s hair is still cool? Posted: 9/30/2006 6:42:36 PM | At my Law School (1998 grad) I made friends with a girl who had been otherwise avoided by our classmates. She wore tonnes... I mean TONNES of makeup and this really bright red lipstick that really didn't suit her thin lips.
She also was a mullet fan. Every morning (so she told me), she'd get up our and a half before classes just to complete her "look".
But... She was one of the most educated, brightest, smartest, intelligent, caring, polite people I 'd ever met. Thank God, I was not a "trend guard".
Once I mentioned something about trying a new look. She replied, that she felt comfortable about how she looked and I left it at that. Because her friendship meant more to me then giggles of some people whenever we went out.
She is a very prosperious lawyer nowadays, with huge mansion for home, three expensive cars, and... personal stylist for her "mullet needs". She never changed her look. She is still comfortable with it. I am sure her clients don't even notice it. She is one of the top 30 in North America. She is married to wealthy banker.
Haispray didn't squeeze her brain. It narrowed the onlookers buzz, though.
Personally, I really don't like any of the 80's style. But there is no way it could become the criteria for my attitude towards the person.
