Next is to conquer Caesar's Palace...the place is freakin massive!! I am afraid I may never make it out of there alive...The Venetian is beautiful...and I should know, took me like an hour to get out of there..I figured I would follow these people I overheard saying they were leaving...ended up at the valet parking...I looked around and said "shit!' and walked back and again tried to find my way out...was sober this time, just wanted to see this canal with the gondola rides...kept on walking around past the shops, to the casino, to the shops...then finally 'The front yes!!" then the traffic in th front, like 5 lanes there of cabs, cars, buses...

I do it all the time! Actually, I could say its my preferred way of travelling, especially since travelling is one of those moments when all you want is to be free of the every day grind and to be everything but reliant on someone else unless that someone else is exactly like you~ ;)

I've been travelling solo for over 10 years now, short to long trips (read: 1 week to 4 months); suitcase to backpack style (read: all inclusive to no penny in my pocket and a small bag containing the essentials ~~ which of couse includes my hammock); developed to less developed countries (read: Europe to Guatemala and beyond)...

Go for it! If you are comfortable with yourself, enjoy your own company, then as you know, attracting other people is not an issue. As long as you keep your smile and witts about you, I'm sure you'll have a GRAND time!

Cheers and enjoy~

I am figuring that Vegas, there is alot ot see and do. And so time goes by so fast when you are there. I have tickets to 3 shows there and VIP passes for Studio 54, Coyote Ugly and Jet...got them free with my package. Seen as MGM Mirage owns MGM Grand, New York New York and Mirage where the clubs each are located. being social I will most likelt meet people at the clubs/bars...
I laugh on the passes it says ""Courteous and generous behavior is expected while in the VIP check-in line"
So what does this mean..generous? Pay the VIP host $20? and then what?

There is something you should learn while you are still young. If you wait to do things until someone agrees to do them with you, you will just sit alone in your room until the day you die. I'm going to vegas in 10 days(alone). My kids are ticked off at me, my friends keep telling me I shouldn't go alone, But I'm 54, ill, and have never seen anything I wanted to. So, I'm going. Have fun!

judytoo, that's awesome

Some people think I'm crazy and dumb for going to Europe by myself soon, but I think it's because they're jealous that they would never have the guts to do something so awesome.

I love vacationing solo, I do it all the time... U don't have 2 worry bout lugging any1 else around & etc... the only thing I would recommend, especially going 2 Vegas, is 2 be careful who U fraternize wit... when I went the other month, nobody really bothered me like that, but after a couple of drinks in that altitude, U know how folks get... good luck at the tables

A lot of good points here.

I personally would prefer to travel with a friend, or better yet that special lady but that being said, I WANT to get to Europe. So I may be going on my own.

I think from listening to friends who have travelled with their friends and it affected the relationship it was often 1 friend not willing to compromise on where to go/eat/see etc.

Me, I don't gamble so I am not sure how much there would be for me. Although a dawn hellicopter flight into the desert for champagne sounds very good.

I have seen some singles cruises on sailing ships where the ratio is 50/50 m/f. Not sure if thats my ideal either.

Someplace warm with a nice beach and great food/drinks.

I have also heard about a singles premium..most resorts/hotels base prices on dual occupancy. Call me selfish, but if I am on cruise etc etc, I wannt the room to myself. I value my privacy.

Well went to Florida one time 10 years ago with 3 friends for 2 weks. The first week was ok, we all did stuff together, but then dissention in the ranks in the 2nd wek. You can only compromise for so long on a vacation...and more than one person? It can be a pain...
As for Vegas and gambling? There is so much more to that city than gambling...I am no gambler..the entertainment aspect is awesome, so many different shows going on. Can take a helicopter ride to the Hoover Damn, Grand Canyon, over The Strip at night, go to Lake mead...all sort so things to see and do..is why doing Vegs solo would be perfect...can still go with someone or people and do your own thing. Known so many who did just that, or solo...looking so forward to this..thanks all for the encouragement...and the reminder to "Not go off the beaten path"

Whenever I wanted to go on vacation, I was either not with someone, my friends couldn't go............no money or no time. There were always reasons. Recently I had an oppurtunity to go to Egypt and Jordan. I signed up for a tour and went alone. Met a lot of great interesting people and saw things I had never seen before and always wanted to. The pyramids and Lost City of Petra.

This all said. I also had four days alone in Cairo before I met up with the tour group. I have never felt so unsafe in my life. There were tour police and guards with guns everywhere, but they were the worst for hassling you. I was dragged into a shop and when I tried to leave without buying anything, the man became quite angry, loud, and abusive. It is also no fun seeing sights you can not share with someone.

My time alone in Hawaii was great. Like they say. You can go anywhere and do anything. You just have to answer to yourself.

So travelling alone??? Depends where.

Oh I agree it all depends on where...but Vegas for example, no way I would be compromising with someone else to do stuff when there is a whole whack of things to do.
When i last went earlier in the year, my buddy was gambling and I was at shows, nightlife and taking in the sights...we met up later on in the evening...only times i saw him were when we checked into the hotel, got up for the breakfast buffet, dinner buffet...that was it. I was usually crashed out from partying when he got back to the room.

--The best part about travelling solo that it's easier to blend into the fabric and live closer to local experience (assuming you can speak the part)--

Totally agree with FIMI1234...

The great thing about traveling alone is meeting other people and hearing and seeing what is so often missed by the typical tourist. During my solo travels ( for example India, Mexico, Suriname, Indonesia and Europe) I met such a diversity of people and places, learned and gained a lot of experience. Travelling alone also means you are much more open for contact and discovering the local way of life. It's broaden your view.

The road less ventured, is often the one with the most to offer...

I travel Solo
I would call IN country travelling
That I can do with other people
But to date overseas has been solo or with kids when younger

Singapore, various countries in Europe, Scandinavia, UK, Canada (briefly), around the place in USA.

There were a thousand things that could have gone wrong and didn't. Some that couldn't...and did. But hey we live to tell the tale and have a lot of laughs about it later. lol

Mostly I have friends or friends of friends where I go but not always.

Travelling solo is a great way to meet people and make friends too :)
I've met some 'amazing' people just chatting on trains or in airports.

Backpackers rock or the nicer hotels. Budget tourist places I don't really click with. Am always a bit wary for some reason......

Have a lovely trip and be cautious but not paranoid. Go with an open mind and an open palm and you will meet some lovely folk :)

I always got a kick out of people saying while in vegas do not go off the beaten path, stick to The Strip and take a cab to the casinos off the strip like Rio, Palms, Palace Station.
Always been curious as to what the areas surrounding the Strip are like.

Some of the areas off the strip can be really rough actually .... theres even a patch in between the Hilton timeshare place on the strip and the Stratoshpere that you want to be careful on .... its a city filled with people walking around with large amounts of cash, crime is bound to happen .... but as long you play safe and keep yourself in public areas, yu will be fine ....

take cabs to the off strip areas, and make sure you check out Freemont ....
