| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/17/2006 11:31:28 PM | I also heard that you do not walk north of the Stratosphere and just stay around the Fremont Experience, don't venture off ast La vegs Blvd as it is transient and rough. So rough meaning lots of streetgang type people hanging around? | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/23/2006 10:21:27 AM | I have travelled solo many times. I enjoy it. I love photography and when I am with someone, I always feel guilty for wanting to stop and take a picture. When I go alone, I am able to do what I want, when I want.
I am leaving for a month in Peru... Alone... next month. Though I have done Paris and London alone, I am a bit more 'safety' concerned about Peru. Just being such a 3rd world an all. I always just tell myself, if they steal from me, its because they need it much worse than I do. I can replace anything I lose, that kind of thing doesn't bother me. I worry more about medical and passport issues. Getting sick in a foreign place all alone, wouldn't be a good thing! I am so excited to head off on this adventure though, and if anyone else is headed down there or lives there that want to meet for a 'cocktail', drop me a line!!!

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/23/2006 10:41:00 AM | I have been wanting to meet some people who live in Vegas when I go there in a couple of weeks. But is hard to set that up on a personals site, as it comes across no matter what that you may be looking to get lucky...and yet all I would like to do is meet some new people while vacationing solo... Will be a first for me doing this and I am very anxious..will take lots of pics for sure. | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/23/2006 4:39:57 PM | I recently returned from my second trip to Vegas. Definitely make a point to check out the Fremont Street Experience. The Deuce (public transit bus) travels up and down the Strip 24/7 for $2 each way, and will drop you off right at the entrance to Fremont. Stay safe, and don't walk north of the Stratosphere or venture away from the Fremont Street Experience. The neighbourhood around there is quiet and can be rough, judging by the bars and boarded up windows.
My first trip was solo, as are most of my holidays. I've walked the entire Strip (bring good walking shoes!), seen a few Cirque du Soleil shows ("O" is amazing, and I really enjoyed "Zumanity" as well), went out to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, and spent a day driving around the desert in a rental car. The cell phone really does lose its signal out there.
Have a wonderful trip, and enjoy the time on your own! I've always had the most introspective moments when I've been travelling solo. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/23/2006 7:36:19 PM | hey, not to say las vagas is any different then say a backpacking country like peru or thailand, but i would say it's MUCH easier to meet fellow backpackers along the way, just because other solo travelers are sometimes looking to make some friends to go on other tours, share costs for bus, taxi, meals, etc
where as going to las vegas, the other solo travelers might be more cautious to a solo guy wanting to be friendly..

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/25/2006 5:49:08 AM | | Went to NZ/ Australia for 2 months alone. Did a contiki for 1st 2 weeks in NZ then worked on a sheep farm for about 5 weeks *distant distant relatives* then went to Australia alone for a week. Was loads of fun, although Australia was lame, mainly cause I got kicked outta my hostle, 2 much drinking :D. But I also wanted to come home by then. Overall loads of fun though. | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/25/2006 8:17:39 PM | | you are going to have so much fun! Wherever you go, people are going to be looking at you and wishing they were as brave as you. If you wait for someone to travel with, you could be waiting forever!!! | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/26/2006 10:11:02 AM | I traveled South East Asia and parts of Asia solo. South East Asia, for about 9 mths solo...but you get to meet loads of cool/and sometimes not so cool ppl on your travels. You're on your own schedule, if you don't want to spend 2 hours in some temple, you don't...if you want to spend 4 hours at the same beach, you do that... I also made some really good friends along the way, some of whom I still keep in touch with, I'm back home (Toronto, Canada) now for awhile, so it's nice to receive emails from their travels (though I'm super jealous)...hopefully in a few mths I'll be sending out my own travel emails once again! | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/26/2006 11:49:02 AM | RabidWol,
I went to Vegas solo. It was great (other than paying the "single fee"). Alone in Vegas? Can't happen. Locals and visitors are all so friendly.
As long as you stay within the Strip area, you're pretty much safe (people everywhere 24 hours). I walked the entire Strip (nearly passed out) and it was awesome because I was able to collect ashtrays from casinos with their logo emblazened on them (cheap but niffty souvenier).
There's so much to do and places to see (M&M, Coke, Star Trek, Hoover Dam, etc.) Outside of the strip, not sure if there's much to see, as it's maybe more local living. Night clubs are an added bonus to keeping busy and you'll definitely meet people there who just might take you home *winks*.
I WANNA GO NOW!!! Actually, planning a short solo trip soon so can't go to Vegas *pouts*
RW, have fun and don't even think about the whole "solo" thing!!!!

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/29/2006 9:20:20 AM | I have been travelling solo for years now. My first trip alone (kinda) was to Russia back in 2000, where i stayed with friends for 3 weeks. They were amazing hosts (we had been pen pals since I was a kid) and it was amazing. But I also went out during the day into St. Petersburg using all the local trains, subway on my own and that was amazing. made me want more. a few months later, i went to Portugal and drove around there for 3 weeks, on my own. Since then, I've travelled on my own all over Europe, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, West Coast, Alaska, and I love it. You learn a lot about yourself. I personally think all women in particular should travel at least once on their own. You also learn to be more intuitive travelling on your own. For women travellers, there is a great site called Journeywoman.com (or journeywomen.com). check it out, great source of info for women travellers on things that AREN'T in the guide books
so, my answer in regards to should I travel alone--YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 4/30/2006 9:23:24 PM | I usually travel solo and love it, like the total freedom of doing what I want and the ability to set my own itinerary as I go. I do this every summer for three to four weeks. I have been to China, India, Mexico, Peru, Turkey, Greece, and Eastern Europe. I have never had any problems and have met many wonderful people. It is the best way to learn about the local culture. | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/1/2006 8:24:45 PM | | Oh 6 days to go til I hit Sin City...oh this is going to be some awesome trip. Take in some shows, hit the bars, see the sights, do a bit of gambling..and I have to take a walk down or a cab ride down to the famous sign Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas and take a pic of it for sure...Sunday hurray up!! | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/4/2006 11:26:47 AM | | I am a single female and I travel solo all the time. I've been to Vegas by my self many times and usually always go at least once a year just to go shopping if nothing else. I just returned from Brazil where I went to Carnaval in Rio and yes, I went by myself. If you are social, you will meet people whereevver you. You will have a great time. I always do. | |
|
| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/4/2006 11:32:01 AM | | Only 3 days til Vegas I am so excited. Have never done this before and am so looking forward to it...just the thought of doing everything on my own agenda. This will be my best trip yet. Thanks all for the encouraging words. At first i was somewhat questioning if I would enjoy it..but now? Will be awesome...roll into the hotel at 4am from Coyote Ugly or Studio 54..hhehe | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/4/2006 12:05:42 PM | Not sure if this is violating any rules so I apologize if it is. But at the north end of The Strip from Stardust to Stratosphere, all the hotels are pretty spaced apart, and I am attending a show at Stratosphere one night. Is it safe to walk to Sahara to catch the Monorail or should I cab it back down The Strip. If not I will just cab it to Fremont and hit a bar there afterwards. Just curious as I do not know the North End at all, only the 4 Corners to the south end. Thanks | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/4/2006 12:54:59 PM | | hi tia, you've never got back to me on the info i gave to you about the teaching in china.. do you even have a teachers degree? | |
|
| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/4/2006 2:43:54 PM | | I went to England for 10 days by myself. Was actually nice sitting on the plane without having to talk to anyone. Although when you do travel alone be prepared to get asked a lot of questions from tourists thinking you're a native. | |
|
| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/4/2006 7:06:21 PM | | I travel alone alot, as not too many of my friends who are married with kids can afford to go, let alone go with kids. I travelled to Vegas last October...and met up with people who became new friends....and to top it all off....they were from the same city as me. I went to shows alone, I am a very social person so I have no trouble talking to new people. At first, it feels werid....but once you keep doing it......u get used to it. I am in the process though of finding someone to travel with, because I think it would be just as great to be able to share the experiences together, than just alone. But travelling alone, does cost quite abit more....which isn't right either. I wonder if there is a singles travel group around here, that would be great to join and meet people, and travel.....hope this helps ya. | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/7/2006 7:59:51 AM | All the vacations I've ever been on were solo. Its not so bad since you don't have to worry about someone else or have them straggling behind.
On the other side, it would be fun to be on a trip with someone else. I'm pretty much a loner, but would enjoy sharing good times with someone.
|
| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/7/2006 8:21:18 AM | Well folks tonight I head to Sin City solo, and this is going to be awesome for sure. Thanks all for the encouraging words, has made this trip all more the worthwhie..will chat when I am back next weekend. Cya | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/7/2006 2:49:43 PM | | I went to London, England by myself in November and had one of my best trips ever. Just make sure you research (trip advisor is a Godsend, and the Vegas forum there is really helpful). There was so much I still didn't get to do, but it was great, had no problems in bars or pubs, and it worked well where there was lineups at attractions as sometimes they had room for just one more!! | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/7/2006 2:50:26 PM | | Sorry, didn't see your last post - Have a great time!! | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/10/2006 5:39:38 AM | Solo travel is still a great topic of discussion. I will be travelling to Quebec City this year, and a friend was going to join me, but she has already started with all the reasons she may not be able to. No worries, I am still going, and after reviewing this post, feel all the more confident in that. (So, thanks!) Haunting | |

| Vacationing Solo Posted: 5/12/2006 7:14:06 AM | Oh man what a trip. 4 shows, had dates for some of them, ya I was shocked too I found dates. Walked the entire strip from the Stratosphere all the way to Mandalay Bay. Did that tuesday. Stopped in the Stardust to play some slots, sad to see that place come down at the end of the year. Picked up a couple of souviners from there. Walked to The Wynn and checked it out...wow talk about upscale..I felt like I was in a multi-millionaire country club...then walked dow to The Venetian and then to Mirage, etc..stopped into Harrah's and got a pic with a showgirls...went back to eat at Toby Keith's that night, and then got another pic with another showgirl there LOL... They imploded the old Boardwalk Hotel/Casino Tuesday morning at 2:30am..was at Coyote Ugly at that time LOL... Hit Studio 54 Wed night then walked across to Coyote Ugly and finished the night off there. Rolled back to my room around 4am LOL. All in all was an awesome trip. Only downfall was the fact hitting the bars solo, I did feel a tad uncomfortable the first night at Coyote. But then the next 2 nights i didn't seem to mind. Thanks all my first solo vacation was awesome..I have to go back again LOL | |
