One of the most fun things you could do is go on a trip solo. Never been to Las Vegas, but to lots of other places by myself. I would do it again for sure. But I like travelling both on my own as well as with someone, as long as it's the RIGHT someone!

I am so glad I stumbled onto this forum, I intend to start travelling alone over the next 12 months. Just got my first passport and can not wait to get the first out of Aust stamp in it.
I am a social person and find it easy to start conversations with strangers, have even had conversations with people who have no English.
Guess it is the self safety first that needs to be in full play when travelling alone. "If it don't feel right then it ain't".
My youngest daughter and her best friend went on a cruise together, friendship has been all down hill since. Haven't talked for a couple of years now. So guess if you go alone you get to keep your friends is the moral here?
I wish you a boomer of a trip, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

I love to travel, have travelled with friends and by myself. I have just ordered my 4th passport and plan to start travelling again.

I have found you meet a lot more people and have some interesting times when travelling alone. I have travelled through Switzerland alone and stayed in hostels. It was great. I have travelled with friends and unless you have the parameters set before you go, you will be in for some surprises!. Friend is cheap and won't spend the money to go out. Friend tells you she is afraid of flying when you step on the plane. Friend doesn't like salt water just when you want to go snorkelling!. Good to ask a lot of question before you go!

I want to head to Belize in December and am looking a some tours. Will go with someone if they like ruins, snorkelling, rafting, jungles, surf, sand sun and all that....

Merrylianne said it best. Once you start travelling solo you are spoiled. I do enjoy travelling with friends as well, but going on my own is so liberating. I always meet new people and some of them have become lifelong friends. One of them is an occasional travel buddy and even so, we don't share a room. One place we like to dive, we don't even stay at the same hotel. Super deal, I have most of my independence but someone to go for dinner with. :)

As another poster said, the best thing to do is get signed up on some tours right away. For me, I don't generally have to worry about things like that because I dive. I always meet people on the dive boat and at the dive shop.

Smile at people and be friendly. People on vacation always respond to that. The locals generally respond to that. Be kind, be considerate, be prepared to tolerate things being different than they are at home. In other parts of the world, it can take 5 times as long to get anything done.

Of course, you still have to keep your radar up.

The only thing I really don't like about travelling alone, is not having anyone to watch my bags for me. Oh, and by the way, if you do meet someone to hang with, you might still want to watch your own bags until you are very sure that the person is totally trustworthy.

going solo is awsome, I have met more people on my own than I would have with a group of friends. When your out there by yourself and haven't talked to anyone for a while, you tend to start up conversations with people you may have missed in a group. Also as a solo traveler I have always felt less like a tourist, and more at home even when I wasn't close. I think I had the best experance in San fran when I went to a local grocery store, same with The big island. It's a good thing just have to be careful but we all know that anyway.

When you visited those countries, how safe were there? Anything we should be aware of?

I prefer to travel with others and met up with friends in New Brunswick last year. I had a week and joined them on the second week of their two week vacation and had a great time. This year I will be going to N.Y. city with my sister and possibly another friend. In the next year or two I would like to visit Europe as I have never been there. Most of my friends can't afford it or are in relationships and will only go places with their boyfriends and 3 makes a crowd.
When I'm ready to go to Europe, I will go alone if I can't find anyone to go with me. I know of another single who signed up for a tour of England and Scotland and enjoyed herself as she met other interesting people. Even though, I prefer to travel with friends, if I really want to go somewhere and no one is available to go with me, then I will go by myself.
I've found it interesting to read in this thread that with some people who traveled with friends, the friendships got strained afterwards. I'm wondering if there is a singles tour in Europe as I would find it more awkward being the only single one with couples, unless there are other singles there. Does anyone know if their are singles tours in Europe?

Happy traveling everyone!

I travelled on my own for months, it was a blast even though I'd never do it again (safety issues). Being alone makes one more approachable, at least for a female. I met tons of people and hooked up plenty of times, never a dull/lonely moment.

I went to Malaysia alone......everyone seems to think it was a dumb idea, and maybe it was. I only was alone for a bit though seeing as I met up with someone I knew from Malaysia after a few days. Going there was ok, but coming home was hard....You get treated not very well.... But I guess I should have taken it with a grain of salt, for it was a good trip and I did enjoy myself immensly. My fav part of Malaysia was the food... it is so different yet so deliscious!!! I don't think traveling alone for women is such a good idea anymore but sometimes we still do it. I tell you I will not go anywhere alone unless there is no one at all who wants to go.

Be careful with certain countries check to make sure there is an embassy for your country there, make sure there isn't reports online or in the news of sex solicitations. Tell people where you are going, make sure they know every step of the way where you are. If you will be there for extended period of time buy a pay as you go cell phone once in the country it will come in handy. Do not even take a piss without your passport!!! It should be tattoo'd to your body do not loose it and make sure your family has photocopies of it. Make sure your family has recent pictures of you. Seems dumb but I know this has helped families alot when trying to find a loved one that had gotten lost in the streets and ghetto of London eng. Be smart trust your gut!!! And most of all enjoy your time spend a little but not so much that people see wads of cash in your wallet lol. Ask family and friends for advice, ask strangers on the bus and take what they say at face value. Visit websites and make sure you are aware of the news reports for that country and the weather there as well. Be safe over 70 percent of incidents in other countries with foreigners visiting could have been prevented by planning smartly. Google the word Travel Safe there is a site that tells you advice as well.

Ok I will shut up now LOL

ENJOY!!!

This is funny....I just posted in this travel forum about how I like to find a travelling buddy to go south for a vacation. I don't like going alone, I am more of a people person. It's more fun with someone. But at this point, I might have to go alone to a resort. I am sure I will still have fun, I always do in the sunny south.
I am glad I am not the only one who might have to venture alone.
