Topics of Conversation that End a Date Rather Quickly

I haven't dated really, but when talking to people - when I find out that someone is only talking to me because they think I'm one of the 'cool' guys (rare mistake ) or when someone comes off as really shallow and 'normal', I leave. If a girl cares about my shoes....tells me about her sorority.

For example, I'm in a band and ride a motorcycle...but I always have to preface that by saying "yeah, it's a really BAD band that plays hardcore PUNK and my motorcycle cost $800 and is falling apart!!" I suppose that would probably end it from boths ends...

It's commonly said that it's a bad idea to talk about ex's and past relationships on a first date, but is it really that bad? I find hearing about men's past relationships really interesting, and enlightening, especially when trying to figure out if the guy I'm with has good potential for a romantic relationship. I mean, to me, it's like saying don't ask about a person's previous work experience during the job interview when you're looking to hire someone. Also, there tends to be funny dating stories, and you can relate to each other because you're both single and going through single life. I don't want to spend the entire date talking about our past relationships, but I think it's a fair topic of conversation that should not be avoided. My goal in dating is to get to know someone enough to figure out if I want to start a relationship. My goal is not simply to make it to another date no matter what, by not letting them know enough to scare them away.

I'm just gonna sit there and nod and smile the whole night. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be safe. What's a guy gotta do to get a break these days.

While not categorized as conversation topics, and yet in the interest of ending a date...it can also be quite effective to

* HUM loudly, every time your date begins to talk
* Juggle dinner rolls
* Talk animatedly with your fork and spoon, as though they were hand puppets
* Say a prayer (loudly) to the spirits of the dead (cow, pig or chicken, whichever you've ordered)
* Whistle at the waitress (especially if you're female)
* Ask to sample food of the guests at the next table
* Order everything ala carte (including ice in one glass, unsweetened tea in another, packets of sugar on the side)
* Gargle your coffee

Danced with two 300lb women and asked if I was jealous

Peed my name in the dirt

Was Assembly of God and told me he knew all about Catholic's

Asked if my breasts were the real thing

Spit in my mouth on the first date

Told me he didn't pay for dinner......

Asked me if I would go to his house and watch porn after meeting for coffee

Told me he was fit.....a fit 400lbs

Told me he was in recovery and we were at a bar

The list could go on and on.....I now have a sense of humor because of all these l0vely people........Life is good find humor in everything.......

Message: I ended it when she told me she was a preop. Born of ambiguous genatalia, raised a man and now yearning to be a woman. He looked really good in a dress and all madeup! I made an exit for the powder room and then a bee line for the door.

This is a reply to message 20

I once had a guy bring pics of his "dead" wife on a date. To "show me". How scary is that? Did not make me want to go out with him again, for sure, lolol

What about the converse? Did you ever think to consider how conservatives feel when we have to sit there and listen to a liberal drone on about the environment, lack of social programs, how much they hate President Bush...etc?

blueyesrsmiling;

After reading your post I've realized why I have no luck on here.

I am waaay too normal. Made me spit a marinated mushroom out of my mouth, off my laptop, made a grab and handballed it into my TV. You coming to clean it up?

OT: Only thing I can think of is bringing up the ex. That would do it.

I agree with almost everything on here, except for the diabetes thing the OP brought up. Sure, I am not gonna go into great detail, but if I don't tell whoever I am with, date or not, that I am type 1 diabetic and what that entails, I am causing myself danger. Anyone who is out with me needs to know I could go down in blood sugar or up and what that might mean. It's dangerous to say you shouldn't bring that up. It's not really a topic of conversation unless the other really wants to know stuff, but it should be mentioned. There are times I have forgotten, but it was just a lunch and in a place where food was present, but if I am doing lots of walking or it's a longer outing, it needs to be discussed, before the get-together or during. I usually try before to give them fair warning. I get winded easily and need breaks. But yeah, a lot of those other topics should be discussed in moderation! Everyone has got good points, no matter what their affiliation. We are what we are, but we are humans first.

blueyesrsmiling -- Too funny! I'm with the guy who spit out the marinated mushroom, but I spit out my coffee, cause it's morning here.

I thought I was the only woman who had ever experienced the "p**d my name in the dirt (but in my case it was sand)" experience. Talk about incredible gross motor skills! Having college flashbacks now. How old were you when this happened? Men's behavior does tend to improve after 25 or so, usually.

Turning anything and everything into a segue to discuss sex.

Talking about your ex...ad nauseam.

Excessive touching and familiarity in general on a first date.

Is anything safe?

I don't think so. I don't think it's safe to do anything, say anything, be yourself, or just be like you normally are to everyone else in the normal world.

I don't think it's very good to talk about all your medical, or financial problems though. I didn't go back for a 2nd date after those topics. But then maybe it was good.

Ok, this thread is going to be my therapy for the day, so here goes lol

Had a date talk incessantly about how beautiful his sister was, I must also state, his sister kept calling him throughout our date. I finally told him, he should date his sister, last I heard, he and his sister are living "happily ever after"!

Had another date make jokes about disabled veterans. He didn't realize he was on a date with a disabled veteran.

Had another date where the guy kept incessantly speaking with a "fake" southern accent as a joke, I am from the south.

I once asked a man who was the most influential person in his life. I was expecting to hear "Mom" or "Dad" or maybe even his "high school coach" as a child, but noooooooooooooooo, he stated "Bill Cinton", this is when I said "check please"?

Is it okay to breath on the first date? They might take the way that I do that as some kind of code, I don't know. Can I look at her too much or not enough?
Can I talk about myself too much or about her too much?
Can I be too positive or too negative?
I guess just stick to keeping your mouth shut, and go with the aura of mystery technique. That way they can figure out on the second date they can't stand ya.
Somebody throw me a rope here. I'm so confused, I don't know which way is up on this topic. LOL

You can breath as long as it's not too heavily.
You can look, but not for too long.
Talk about yourself very little, but don't ask her too many questions.
Too positive is tooting your own horn, too negative you are too depressing.
Hey, aura of mystery will at least get you the second date. LOL..........................

Re. "reading poetry out of a book," resulting in ending a date early, my undergrad degree is in English, and I write poetry, so, perhaps, reading poetry out of a book MIGHT hook me!

The class one I've heard (and it will always scare me off).. "I haven't been with anyone in a while" (in a sexual context). Never bring it up on a first date :)

1) If you are correctional officer in a women's prison.... telling me how much you would love to date the prisoners, because some of them are so beautiful!

2)talking about your trips you took with the X-wife. Telling me anything about the X-wife... droning on and on about her... then, suddenly I say, let's go... and He calls me a "party pooper". This is a party? It feels like HELL DATE!

I went out with one man who droned on for two hours (throughout our entire dinner) about his horrible, evil, wicked ex-wife. Needless to say, I never saw him again.
