| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/13/2006 1:56:57 AM | I agree that 14 is too young to make a decision that will cost $1000's to reverse. Especially since girls at that age are more influenced by friends of the week than their own choices/thoughts. Maybe try something a little less permanent????? As far as it being a "tramp stamp" I personally don't view it as such!!!!! But I know a LOT of guys who use it as a method for trolling for what they say are easy women in/out of bars. There was even a discussion about such here on a morning radio show a short while back and most of the callers swore by it being a sure sign of an easy lay.
Yes, it is wrong of guys and gals to think that way!!!!!! but many do.. Kinda like the snap bracelet thing... Whether or not you mean it that way others see you that way. Certain things carry certain meanings, just part of our society.. Do you think your daughter is mature enough to make a decision if that is how she wishes to be perceived by some? More importantly do you think she is mature enough to handle when someone does?

A lot of young girls are getting it done and then when they decide to get married and have kids they can be excluded from getting an epidural because of the tattoo being right in the general area that they need to give the epidural.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/13/2006 11:50:46 AM | I don't agree with you..I was 15 when I got my tattoo, I did it to be cool, at a price of wanting to be like all my friends. I have regretted it once I became a woman. OK there it can be hidden ones..but look at the long term. It's not attractive on a woman in a beautiful dress at a function..SO AT 14, WE DON'T REALIZE THE DOWNFALL LONG TERM, we don't know where our lives are taking us at that age.
If you think your a COOL DAD, by allowing this, your wrong.
Proud Mom of 3.
PS...my Daughters have Tattoo's..but they did them when they became consenting adults.

Posted: 5/13/2006 4:21:30 PM | | Where the hell do you live? 18 is the "legal" age here in NY.....14 is far too young to get tattoed. why is this even an issue? Explain to your daughter that when she is old enough she can make her own decisions, at 14 noone is going to ink her anyway. By the way, I have many tattoes and my nephew at 13 wants one...I smaked him in the head...lol...I was 30 when I got my first one, you know...grown, established, etc...

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/13/2006 5:56:27 PM | Card Guy, I agree with most that 14 is kinda young for the tattoo thing. I have a son who I know will one day be asking for a tattoo, as his father has one and I myself have 5 (one being on the lower back), but my little man is going to have to wait until he's 16 to get that tatty, and if he argues then he'll have to wait until 18 to get it on his own. For those of you asking where Card Guy is from, Ontario, Canada would be the answer. Here anyone can get a tatty as long as a legal guardian signs consent for it, otherwise they have to wait until 18 to get one without the parents consent.
As for the "tramp stamp", never heard that one before, mine was done on my lower back so that I can conceal it whenever I want to, as well as the other 4 I have in spots that can be covered up when need be.....
My suggestion, make sure she really thinks the tatty out, not just a spur of the moment thing to be cool. Make sure that she knows that this tatty will be there for life, and should be well thought out....

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/13/2006 6:02:02 PM | to clarify...in ontario you can only get it if you are under 18 if your parent goes with you.... not just signs on the dotted line like a piercing.
even then, the discretion is still left up to the artist.
just to clarify. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/15/2006 9:35:23 AM | Sorry, but i think she should wait till she's of legal age to make that decission. 14 is to young..In some areas its a sign that a girl is easy. the female body is beautiful anyway, why spoil it. a small hidden rose, or simple tat wher it isn't seen is ok, but when your an adult, not a teen.....sorry my opinion..and old guys rule...heheh | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/15/2006 10:25:07 AM | I agree with the age thing....14 too young!! But the part of it being slutty, or a TRAMP STAMP...I don't agree... I was 25 when I got mine...on my lower back...the reason there for me, was because its a female spot...and its my own design...so I will never regret it!! | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/15/2006 3:13:19 PM | I can't believe men in this day and age can be so ignorant and uneducated,, to call a woman a slut or tramp because of a piece of artwork she chose to have inked into her skin. I use the term WOMAN because I do believe a 14 yr old is a child, not a woman,, a woman shld be entitled to her own choice but a child should not,, my suggestion Bro,,, tell her when she has had her own job,, payed her own rent for a reasonable term and saved the money herself,, not only will you support her decision,, you will look for the perfect artist to do the work. Regardless of ones personal opinions of ink and where it is placed,, like everything in life,, you don't have to like,, just keep your responses tasteful because that beautiful soul you attack may scar,, besides,, what do any of us really know. Cheers all CRO | |

If your cool with it and she is possitive she wants it i see no harm in letting her!!!

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/15/2006 6:34:50 PM | I did not read all replies...would love to know if you have made a decision on this dilemma, yet?
My daughter and I got matching "tramp stamps" when she was 15.
First off...I've heard two renditions of where "tramp stamp" started out...one was that it was typical garb for us "saddle tramps" to sport...we like to look great from all angles on the back of our scoots! Someone else said some other jealous ho' LOL started calling some skank that since her BF ran off with her. Who knows...but I know some very classy women...some VIRGINS like my 18-year old daughter, who have them and are NOT tramps.
Secondly...it really depends on the daughter...her maturity level...why she wants to get inked (Peer pressure, competition, etc.?)...how much thought she put into what she is getting...etc. My own daughter, a very mature, straight-A Honors student and I, thought about our tats for two years prior to getting them...had them professionally drawn up and placed...no regrets as of yet...in fact, she has gotten three additional tats and I have four others. (It IS addictive!) WHAT she chooses should be a HUGE factor...I would never allow anything that could change, such as a name of a person, school, sport team, religion, etc...
Both of us have always been around inked people...it is a mutual love...we are both typically trend setters more so than followers.
I personally think a good start is something very small and very discreet that can not be seen when wearing a bathing suit! LOL
Lastly....I agreed to allow my oldest son to get pierced way back when, because I thought it would make the novelty wear off. For the same reason, I always allowed him to do whatever he wanted with his hair...and he did it all! LOL Now...at 23, he still has those original piercings...but the novelty did wear off...no others...and he has perfectly normal hair, as well!

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/16/2006 12:22:07 PM | | So has anybody heard or have knowledge that quote lower back tats can be dangerous to imortant nerve endings over time and that doctors doing epederals for child birth or whatever find that they interfere with these procedures. Dancers find severe pain due to this area. Someone told me this how much truth is there to this. My daughter wants hers there. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Its just an excuse for guys to get aggressive cloths makeup tatoos whatever yet an opinion can be good here and there | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/16/2006 9:09:14 PM | | You can't get a tat here in New Hampshire till ur 18 either. My mother and grandmother took me 2 get my first tat for my 18th birthdayand my grandmother was paying for it and because it was 5 days before my birthday they almost wouldn't do it for me. I was like well this is my mother and my mom says and this is my mother and I said ya and she's paying for it LOL. But as far as being 14, I agree she is way way too younge. However I have heard about the slut tag but ya know what? I got one in the small of my back last year and I am far from being a slut. Pain facter however on a scale of 1-10 it was like a 200 LOL but I love it and would do it all again but if she has a low thrush hold for pain that is not the place to get it. I have 5 and that one hurt the worse....Anyway I think she is too too younge. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/16/2006 10:33:14 PM | Here in Mo...or it may even be county-wise...it is 16 with a parents signature...and they are strict on having names match or something proving the discrepancy.
Funny thing is...I allowed my daughter to get her naval pierced at 14...and...can't believe I am fessing up to this online...messed with her birth certificate on my scanner to make her two years older!

I had to have an emergency c-section and the doctor had to map out my back and give me the shot above the normal area due to the fact that I had a tattoo there. when I got that tat, i had no idea it would affect me like that... however, my son was born healthy...and i don't regret my tattoo at all.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/17/2006 12:06:32 PM | | No respectable, professional tattoo shop in the province of Ontario will tattoo a minor. You must be 18 years of age or have parental permission, and a parent's judgement should be called into question for allowing a child under the age of 18 to be tattooed. A child at the age of 14 is still growing and a tattoo placed on the back just above the azz will not look the same at 20, 30, 40 and yes even 80 years of age. Too many kids are getting tattooed on whims and it is wrong. Stop bad tattoos from happening. I am a perfect example. I was tattooed at the age of 17. Had a Guns n Roses Axl rose skull tattooed on my right bicep and a hodgepodge of crap tattooed on my left. I'll just say that I'm $1700 into a half sleeve and back piece on my left arm to cover up bad tattoos done on a whim. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/17/2006 1:50:41 PM | | you might want to wait on that , thats a young age for a permanentthing , she wants it now , but how about whn shes 19 or older , i got my daughter's done when she was 19 . it's best to wait . so she can really have the time to decide the pro's and con's of the design and or the place. | |

Well...while I admit I questionned my own judgement for a while...and made my daughter pledge she would never hold it against me!! LOL...I think it is a bit harsh to say this. I think a lot (all!) of it depends on the PERSON. My daughter is very goal oriented...she has planned her career choice since she was about 11 and has stuck with it. She is not a trend follower (trend setter!) and was not wanting to be inked cause everyone else was. (She was actually one of the few in our school district to be inked) Also...I know too many kids who have (my oldest daughter included!) went to some nasty backroom ink shop and were inked with a shltty design, prolly shlt needles...and DO regret their tats now...because they did it without parental permission.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/21/2006 9:37:24 PM | I think you are a really cool dad.But getting a tattoo at 14 is not a good idea.I was 14 five years ago, and I have a 14 year old sis. Therefore believe me, I know that at 14 most of us are really very fickle minded. Thus, she might regret getting the tattoo later on.Maybe you should tell her to wait for a while and see if she really wants to do it.Also tell her all the pros and cons about getting a tattoo.I wanted to get a tattoo myself, but frankly after doing a research project on it, I hesitated a little. But tattoos are cool either way, however I think she might be a little too young for it. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/21/2006 11:29:40 PM | When my sepdaughter turned 18 I took her to get her first tattoo and my second. She got a tasteful one on her lower back and I do not consider that a "slut" tattoo. I do however agree with the majority of people who say that 14 is too young. I know as a dad you will think of whats best for her, just remember they can be very persusive at that age ;)
Good luck | |
