| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/22/2006 5:58:12 AM | my son and i finally got out matching tats for his 18th birthday. i got mine on the back of my neck, down my back and he got his down the side of his right leg. they look SO good! i wouldn't have allowed him to do this before he was legally allowed but now he's legal and can do what he wants with his body. he already wants another piece...
as long as you don't wake up on payday and say to yourself... "hmmm, i'm bored, have money, think i'll get a tattoo today." i think you'll be ok. an awful lot of thought goes into picking out the right piece and once you've started getting tattoos, it's hard to stop. i'm already planning my next piece and so is my son.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/22/2006 10:42:23 AM | If youre cool enough to let her get a tatt this young, why dont you let her get one in a very discreet place? The lower back is a big decision. I have an unfinished one on my lower back. YES, I do have a "tramp stamp". But long before they were known as those. It's a yin yang. I was going to get a tiger and dragon fighting around it.. but it was never finished, and probably never WILL be.
14 is a little young to be decided on permanence. At that age, I probably would have gotten a unicorn or something... that I would have absolutely HATED by the time I got to my early 20's. Maybe a tiny ankle tatt, emphasis on the TINY part... or a tiny one on her shoulder or something?

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/22/2006 10:55:33 AM | I love tattoos and piercings and I imagine I will be facing the same decision in a few years with my daughters. Here is my take on it. Piercings in a "non-sexual" area (nose, eyebrow, lip) are ok. They are non-permanent and if cared for correctly will leave a very minimal scar if she ever decided to remove it. However I would say no to piericings that she is going to want to show off like belly button, nipple, etc. As far as tattoos go, I would say no unless she could convince me it was something extremely meaningful that she would truly want to have for life.
For example, my "tramp stamp" is a tribal design weaving my daughters initials together. No way on earth would I ever regret such a thing. I have been searching for something unique to symbolize my dad for my next bit of ink. But if one of my girls came to me and begged for a unicorn or a cartoon character, I would have to say no.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/22/2006 2:55:58 PM | #1 - 14 is too young for a tat ANYWHERE. I don't care how mature she is, she's not old enough to make a decision about something like that. I say follow the same rules I did: no tattoos or piercings until she's old enough to sign for and pay for them herself. #2 - Lower back has been done to death. Look around - where do you see them the most? WHEN she's ready for one (not for another few years) encourage her to do something that has meaning to her, in a place that isn't such a fad (preferably somewhere she can cover and that gravity will be kind to - she may love it now, but someday the 70 year old Granny she's gonna become may not like it so much). And yes, for those reading, I have 7 tattoos and 17 piercings so its most definitely not like I'm against them. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/22/2006 4:35:24 PM | A tattoo at 14? That's just crazy.
Hell I am 36 years old and just got my first tattoo. And I put it in a spot that my mom will never EVER see it. I value my life too much. Just kidding she actually just saw it and said, "bah bah black sheep, you always have to be different"..lol gotta love her.
But seriously dont let her do it. My son is 13 and he already knows that when he turns of legal age (40..lol) he can do what ever he wants with his body. But not before then. And even then I think i will have a say in what he does. Maybe that is just the eurorpean in me though

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/30/2006 11:29:02 AM | | ahh so i got my first tattoo when i was fourteen, but it wasnt a lower back one aha, I got it on my leg. but i say if you were to let her get a tattoo id have her put it in a diff place. Becuase at fourteen guys will get the "Wrong" idea from that. Most guys think if you have a tattoo on your lower back aka "tramp stamp" Then your a slut and youll do any thing, tattoo good idea, lower back not quite sure at fourteen. But this is just an opinion. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/30/2006 1:09:09 PM | I have teenage daughters as well, they both have some peircings (belly button, nose, labret), but no tattoos yet, although they have been asking. I have 2 myself, one on of them on my lower back, and I know many, many women of all ages that have them there as well, none of them that I know of are for some type of symbolism. I have not heard about some type of symbolism to having a tattoo there, although, who knows? Maybe I am just getting old lol. And really, who gives a s**t what someone else thinks. The only thing is having a tattoo is a HUGE decision, simply because of the permanancy with it. I LOVE mine, they are in a spot I chose that only I know they are there, unless I want someone to see them. They both have meaning to me, and I got my first one when I was 44. My daughters have both been asking me as well to get one, I think they are WAY to young, with them it is not a mature decision, they don't have the emotional or mental capacities yet to make these kinds of decisions. And I have heard many conflicting views on this from tattoo artists and all the GOOD ones that I know of absolutely will NOT tattoo children this young, part of the reason being they are still growing, the skin can stretch and the tattoo will end up looking distorted. It's tough being a parent and trying to be supportive to all the things they want isn't always easy. But with this one, for me, my vote is no, not until they are older. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 5/30/2006 9:25:14 PM | I'm in the process of getting my first tattoo. Its going to be on my left shoulder blade, and its a galloping mustang, with "MUSTANG, Born to live, born to ride" written underneith it. Before I actually perminantly ink myself, I'm getting a Henna there. I love Henna tattoos! They stay on for weeks and weeks and weeks, and are waterproof, AND if you get a tan while you have one, it stays longer... even after its faded. The tat has a lot of meaning to me. As a child, I had always wanted a mustang (most kids just want any old pony, but I specifically asked for a mustang), and so my mom said that if I can save enough money to pay for half of the horse, and for the equipment necessary to own it, she'd cover the rest of it for me. I worked for 3 summers in a row, and babysat every single weekend from 2000-2004. I got my mustang. We adopted Wimsome Dew III (Dewdrop) from this "adopt a horse" place. He does not live here with me, but DOES live just down the road at the horse stables where I get to ride him daily. I also want a tat on my lower back of a dragonfly, with "AJ" (my son's name) in one of the wings. Dragonflies also have special meaning to me. They go through so much adversity as ugly larvae and then, they have to climb out of the water, become the beautiful dragonfly, and then they've got one day do dance above the water with their lovers, and then they die. It reminds me of many personal things. I wont get the dragonfly until AFTER I get my mustang tat. lol.
Tramp-Stamp? I'm 19, and I've never heard of it.

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/19/2006 12:11:28 PM | This thread presents points I've never thought of!
First off, I'll mention that I got a tattoo at 15, with no parent. Pretty sure that was against the rules, but I still love my tatoo. I think the difference was that I got the idea back when I was still in junior high. It's a dolphin and it's on my ankle. Absolutely no regrets. It signified me then (when I was a competitive swimmer for a team titled Oakville Dolphins- the idea though, came years before that coincidence) and it's still relative now that I live close to the ocean and swim every chance I get.
Have decided I want another one and to put each letter initial of everyone in my immediate family in a plain black, swirling symbol. Haven't designed it yet, but I wanted this to be on my lower back. So I guess after reading this post, i should consider how unsexy it'd be for a guy to have my family staring up at him when he is behind me! Unfortunately I just can't think of another spot that is still feminine and can be covered, especially since I already have one on my ankle. Arms and chest aren't my style.
But I also heard that having lower back tattoos can prevent a woman from getting pregnant. Never heard this one before but I do trust the source (through a third party). Perhaps it was just to discourage his 13 year old students....

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/19/2006 1:14:59 PM | | My oldest daughter got her tattoo on her lower back at 14 she has a small pixie fairy sitting on a leaf. it is cute and tastful. Do I consider her a "slut" no do her friends no. Her boyfriend of just over a year doesn't either. Each year someone calls some area on a female a "slut" area. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/19/2006 1:51:30 PM | I live in BC, Canada and there are places that will tattoo young. If she really wants it she will find a way to get it. I myself have 2, got my first one at 30..birthday and divorce present to myself. An eagle flying off my shoulder to signify strength and freedom. I have 3 kids..2 of which are teenagers and have been asked repeatedly by my son who will be 16 in less then a month if I would sign for him. I talked to the guy that did mine and he won't even touch him until he is 18yrs.(not even with my consent) He told me it was due to growing. Their bodies haven't finished so tattoo won't always stay the same and may end up looking stretched. They want people to be happy with their work and want it to look good incase others see it. I even took my son to talk to him. Your choice at 14yrs will most likely be different at 30yrs as well. I would have supported my son with his as it was a cross with his grandmothers name (my mom passed away to cancer jan '05) that is why I got my second one..it is a hummingbird and a lily..what we put on my mom's gravestone.
I have allowed peircings..my son has eyebrow and my 14 yr old daughter and I have our noses done.
It is a hard question..as far as the slut thing people will think and say what they want..IGNORE. Just because it isn't for them they have no right to judge others! Best of luck!

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/19/2006 7:08:01 PM | First of all she is 14 there should be ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that you are even concidering letting her have a tattoo. And second of all the "tramp stamp" in my opinion is a little trashy. Now I have seven tattoo's myself, but I am also 21 didn't get my first one til I was almost 19, and I wouldn't even think about getting one there. It's just something to make someone look at your ass pretty much. At least that's what men and woman have told me before. But I would think long and hard about this. You may have your whole body covered for all it's worth but she's 14. There should be some limits set. And unless you're the artist or a friend of yours is, there would be no way that she would be able to get it done unless she was 18. Good luck! Ashley | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/19/2006 7:12:12 PM | | I knoe chicks here get labelled a slut for having them on their lower back. I think they look great and all..they are sexy (depending on what you get) but at the age of 14 I'd suggest a different location maybe!! | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/19/2006 8:07:25 PM | i have a lb tat and i love it. you are a slut if you act like one. i was married with a child when i got mine. it was a spot that was only for my husbands pleasure. he has tats. personally as long as you get an artist with a good rep it will be fine. if it somewhere you can hide it easily for things such as a job interview, etc. plus there are not a lot of places to put a tat where the skin will not become distorted with age. bye the way my is of the sun and moon with my name under it. you should pick up a few tat mags, get her to make a list of pros and cons, and maybe call a few shops and get their expert opinions. | |

| SYMBOLISM? Posted: 6/20/2006 10:41:59 AM | Symbolism-no. what it means is, it means it's a FAD! Just liek the punks that get the barbed wire tatt's around their arms or wrists and never did any time...Like Mullets--they sucked then, and it will one day be OBNOXIOUS! Like Disco-it will one day be laughed at...
DON'T LET HER DO IT...Go with the teardrop next to the corner of her eye...now that's a statement!

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/20/2006 10:46:19 AM | | dont let her do it make her wait till she`s at least 18 tattoo`s are for life and leave horrible scars if you remove them ,this time next year it will probably be out of fashion anyway and she`ll just wanna shave her head or something | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/20/2006 1:45:40 PM | | Kids will have to make their own mistakes. However, since this requires your signed consent, if it turns out bad (for reasons of esthetics or regret or ...) it is your mistake, but one she'll be paying for. Tell her to wait until she's 18. Tats are high fashion NOW and there's nothing a teen wants more than to fit in. | |

| Opinion on Female Tattoos - Lower Back! Posted: 6/26/2006 8:40:08 PM | | I remember that it was very impossible for a woman to have a Tattoo without ridicule it was consider masculine not sluttly It was even only tough guys that had Tattoos and would sort of have to earn them Navy etc.Thats just the basic 50s60s culture in NorthAmerica and Europe other ethnic groups are another thing. Some women loved them so much they got tattoos no matter what even in the seventys eightys it was hard to get away with tattoes my friend had to wear long sleeves to any kind of interview or meeting to be treated normal. So now its a glamour thing do you want them like them or just do it for the look. If its just for the looks a person changes quickly especially from teens to 20s | |
