Posted: 7/27/2007 8:00:17 PM | "Natural Woman 37": I live in Indaianpolis now, but I grow up in Robinson, IL, just across the Wabash River from Terre Haute. Robinson is the home of Heath candy bars (I lived near the plant and know several members of the Heath family!) and author James Jones ("From Here To Eternity," "Some Came Running").
In the prehistoric pre-Wal-Mart days of the 1960s and 1970s our family did a lot of our shopping/dining out/movie going in Terre Haute (a one hour drive from Robinson). I even attended Rose Hulman for a year, but transferred to Evansville to finish my degree. Being of German ancestry our family used to go the Bierstube restaurant on the north side of Terre Haute. Last time I passed through Terre Haute (a few years ago) I had lunch at the Bierstube and they still have great German cuisine. | |
