| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 12:08:37 PM | I think it means "illegal drugs".
Yes, I do "take drugs" -- a couple of prescription medications, but it's all good, because I have excellent prescription insurance coverage through my employer, and no potential "date" or "mate" of mine will have to worry that I'm going to "bankrupt" him with my medical needs.
In fact, I have had men hit on me and say they'd like to get married, just because they'd be covered under my health insurance!
How's that for a "romantic" reason for wanting to "get with" someone???
And I thought it was becaue of my good looks, charm, and witty repartee...

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 12:12:00 PM | Only once have I ever seen someone answer yes to "DO you take drugs"... And that was actualy a female who posts here on POF..... And was looking for "hookups" so to speak...... Makes ya wonder...... | |

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 1:08:09 PM | | My first thought was that this is a public board and who would say that they do take illegal substances? That said, pot smokers are usually mellow and alcoholics can be very agressive. I'd rather deal with the happy high group. | |

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 1:29:12 PM | nah, i never cringe. most folks are talking recreatinonal and illegal drugs. although i know more than a few folks that take perfectly legal and prescribed to them drugs in a way i find unsetteling. | |

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 2:30:26 PM | I think it's generally accepted that "Do you do drugs" means the illegal variety -- from pot on up. It doesn't include prescription meds, even if those are every day. And yeah, I've met many who put down that they don't do drugs and I find out that they like to have a 'puff' once in a while. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't see it as a deliberate attempt to deceive (as they have just shown me otherwise), but more as a sensible way to fill out a public profile. If it relaxes them under the pressure of a 'first date' scenario, and they don't mind if I'd rather not, it doesn't bother me. I'd sure rather that, than find out that someone's "social drinking" really means that they are unable to have fun without it.

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 2:50:57 PM | | Rush Limbaugh's been making millions being high every day on prescription meds......... I seem to recall a Rolling Stones song about....oh....something like 'she goes running for the shelter of her mother's little helper' quite a few years back. Hell, at this rate, I don't want to know if the woman does drugs....I want another slot below it that says, "Do you have your child currently on Ritalin?"...because if the answer is YES, I can also bet there's a whole LOT of Percodans in the medicine cabinet..... | |
|
| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 2:59:41 PM | | Not that anyone would answer it honestly but maybe the better question would be "Do you abuse drugs or alcohol". One can certainly become addicted and therefore abuse "legal" narcotics and alcohol. | |
|
| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 3:17:54 PM | I have to say that my first take on the question,'Do you do drugs' was implying, illegal drugs. I think it is a valid question [although most likely not answered honestly by users] because if you are out with someone & they get busted with illegal drug possession, you could be charged as well. As far as prescription drugs, I think that is a privacy issue. This is something that I would hope would be discussed if two people were to be talking about an exclusive relationship.

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 4:06:26 PM | Seriously, this is one of the dumbest threads in this category and the only reason I'm responding is to clarify for those that just don't get it.
Do you use drugs? Do you take drugs?
See the diff? No? Then maybe you need to take drugs and stop using them.
And I'm pretty sure the OP has left the building...... and I can only wonder why................

Hey, Piano4te, there was a far more cogent, and seductive, cut, "Heroin", on a Velvet Underground album (white, with a peel off banana on the cover, and Andy Wharhol was involved), same era, but could have been launched last year and been quite popular. Drugs are all around us; pharmaceutical traces (because no drug is completely absorbed by the human body) are in 97% of all of our natural water sources, and no one can say what the effects of the practically unavoidable long term exposure to all of us will be, or is. Yeah, traces, but of drugs specifically designed to be effective on humans. Guess that makes everyone who answered "no" to the drug use question one of the dreaded liars. Best you can do, on your own, is wait for the opportunity to check out your fish's medicine cabinet, lingerie/underwear/sock drawers, bed pillows, etc., or maybe take them camping and keep a close eye. lol Yes, it's creepy.

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 6:10:28 PM | Don't mean to beat the obvious dead horse here but since you've unfortunately brought this horse up for a beating, here goes. Obviously it means mind altering, recreational drugs for no legitimate medical purpose. Put on your thinking cap please. Gad Zooks woman. Hope you don't steal a can of Pepsi "free" everytime you see one. | |

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 6:54:15 PM | You have a point but my guess is that most people read those questions in the context of screening a person for a date since this is a dating site. You could make the same point about the question … Do You Drink? I’m guessing most people assume the real question is … do you drink alcohol? Either that or an awful lot of the POF members have an extremely dry throat.

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/2/2008 7:33:39 PM | Sometimes as I've paddled the pond of POF forums, I've sampled the profiles of a variety of the fish. Some of the younger members are more apt to admit to drug use. Apparently the social stigma is less for those of the next generation. I don't view this as necessarily a positive thing | |

| In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/3/2008 1:02:28 PM | fyi from a drug history buff. not only was coca cola made with cocaine it was made to help "the diseases of old age" (aka male impotence) as it was gently called back in the day. the guy who developed it developed it as a drug for that purpose. it was a big time business man who bought the formula and used it as a soft drink. | |

| In all Honesty.... | In all Honesty.... Posted: 9/3/2008 1:06:33 PM | Good drug music abounds. jj cale's cocaine (covered by eric clapton) jackson brown did an ode to cocaine as well. and of course my personal favorites Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (which was NOT about LSD) and "Happiness is a warm gun" bang bang shoot shoot which was lennon's ode to hunting no doubt. of course he did do cold turkey years later which was probably about leftovers. | |
