| Quote of the Week Posted: 5/8/2008 1:47:40 PM | That's the trouble with being me. At this point, nobody gives a damn what my problem is. I could literally have a tumor on the side of my head and they'd be like, 'Yeah, big deal. I'd eat a tumor every morning for the kinda money you're pulling down.' Jim Carrey | |

The world is full of half-successful people. They are those who miss being great because they do their duty and no more. They are the ones who keep their eyes on the clock and scrupulously do what is required of them, but no more. To be truly successful, you must go beyond the frontier of duty and requirements." -- Rev. Paul Osumi
I'm very familiar with this quote and I'm aware that it plays a huge part in motivating employees to perform at their best at all times. But I have one big problem with this because it sounds like an incomplete statement. Here's what I think is missing at the end of the above quote: "Employers should acknowledge AND reward employees who give everything they've got and not treat them like fools by paying them peanuts as an income"
What has happened throughout the world in the last few decades is this: Employers are placing higher and higher demands on their employees but instead of acknowledging and rewarding them they have expected them to moderate their demands for higher wages. Well, at some point employees are going to wake up to themselves and realise that they've been taken for a ride by their employers.
It's my firm belief that without proper acknowledgement and reward we will not see the true potential of people (including employees). | |

| Quote of the Week Posted: 6/24/2008 7:12:55 PM | Unbelievable OP. Where did you dig that one up ? The late great Reverend Paul Osumi was my first Hawaiiain girlfriend's friend and customer (she's a barber) from 30 years ago. They're both from Honolulu. I kept one of his quotes (gonna have to remember what it was now) tucked away in my wallet for a good 20 years. Thanks for the memories. A blast from the past !!! If I remember correctly that was the name of his newspaper column, "Quote of the Week". Holy Mackerel. | |
