| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 5/21/2007 9:33:55 AM | | I guess there are a lot of beautiful lakes around the world and mood and circumstance must come into play. Learning to waterski I 'forgot' to let go of the rope...for a while... and when I finally did and came coughing and sputtering to the surface the view of Babine lake in BC's north from a head above water-level, fresh from seeing my young life pass before my eyes was the most beautiful site I have ever seen. | |

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 6/9/2007 1:10:14 PM | A few spectacular lakes that nobody has mentioned:
Lake of the Clouds, Upper Michigan. Great vista views from a lake on top of the Porcupine Mountains.
Lake Catemaco, Mexico. An old volcanic crater surrounded by some remnant rainforest and in a region with a reputation for sorcery.
Tule Lake, California. A lake in high desert country with literally millions of birds in it.
OSA and other lakes in Killarney Provincial Park, Ontario. White mountains surround these crystal-clear lakes. Relatively mosquito-free, so canoe trips there have pleasant campsites.

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 6/10/2007 2:55:43 PM | I could list beautiful lakes that I have been on until my fingers fell off from all the typing, many have already been listed. Personally I long ago found it futile to try and compare apples to oranges, I like them both, variety is what is important. They all have good and bad, many have more good. Beauty oft depends upon lighting or clouds and season. It's like trying to pick my best picture ever taken, can't be done, a yardstick for measuring beauty has not been invented, at least not yet. After I meet my future wife and mother of my kids, then maybe I will have my yardstick to measure beauty. But it will only work for me and not apply universally.
BTW, I am presently taking applications and interviewing for my yardstick, please feel free to contact me about this position.

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 6/11/2007 6:01:57 PM | A couple of years ago I went to The Boiling Lake in Dominica.
The Boiling Lake is situated in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park - Dominica's World Heritage site. It is a flooded fumarole. It is filled with bubbling grayish-blue water that is usually enveloped in a cloud of vapour. The lake is approximately 200 ft (60 m) across.
There is no road leading to the lake. In order to get there, you have to hike about 13 km, a total of three hours one way.
A beautiful hike. And my muscles were sore the next day...

| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 6/17/2007 8:24:00 AM | | Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas...the lake water comes from Heber Springs....is a beautiful lake | |
|
| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 6/17/2007 8:51:39 AM | | I'll be on Beaver Lake, NW Arkansas, next week, It could easily be listed, if your a freshwater fisherman it's sure to be high on your list. Lots of or scuba divers also enjoy it, it's a reservoir with small towns that have been submerged. I'm also canoeing the Niangua river, in SW Misouri, that's not a lake but just as beautiful. | |
|
| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 6/18/2007 10:02:55 PM | | Hey if you're going to canoe the Niangua you should check out the Current river from Welch Spring to Round Spring while you're at it. It's not too far from the Niangua. Crystal clear spring-fed river. Awesome. | |

| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 6/18/2007 10:30:11 PM | The most beautiful lakes I've been too? Damn, that's tough. Superior and Huron, Priest and Pend D'Orielle in Idaho and others. But Crater Lake in Oregon I Left quite an impression on me. It was awesome!
But the most beautiful lake I've seen in pictures has to be lake Baikal in Russian Siberia. It's the world's deepest freshwater lake at over a mile deep. Of all the world's lakes it has the world's clearest water and the world's purest water. The lake itself sits on top of a seismic rift that is currently active and expanding. Have you ever heard of deep-sea seismic vents in the world's oceans where whole entire chemosynthetic ecosystems with giant tubeworms, etc. were discovered and were totally independent of the world's solar-based ecosystem? Lake Baikal, with it's active underwater seismic rift valley, is the only freshwater lake on the planet that has a similar ecosystem thousands of feet below the surface of the lake.
Lake Baikal also has a species of freshwater seal that native only to that lake. In fact, almost 80% of the flora and fauna that inhabits the lake is found nowhere else in the world.
The pictures I've seen of this lake and the surrounding terrain are just absolutely awesome IMO.
One of these days I'm gonna go there and scuba dive, kayak, etc.
One of these days.........

| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 6/18/2007 11:03:40 PM | I've canoed the current and most all the others down there, I don't chose them I just join my friends. The Niangua is pretty tame for me, I'd choose something with a little more challenging water if it was up to me. My friends are more interested in the beer cooler in the boat and other intoxicants at camp
I have to agree with you on Lake Baikal, now there is an orange in a basket of apples.

| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 6/19/2007 6:07:40 PM | | Crater Lake, Oregon. I love the dark blue water and the entire setting. The crowds suck in the summer, but other times of year it is beautiful. | |

| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 8/25/2007 2:18:04 PM | | everyone will have a different opioion of what is the most beautiful lake because part of what makes it a person its the memories that are attatched. And plus smoky lake in canada is the best lol | |
|
| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 9/19/2007 10:24:31 PM | Lago Atitlan, Guatemala
It is surrounded by colourful villages, has a resident saint/ god (Maximon), lies in the crater of an extinct supervolcano, and has three new volcanoes on the south shore. AND beautiful gardens, beaches, and flowers abound AND Mayans are cool.
Plus, Aldous Huxley said it was the most beautiful lake in the world.
|
| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 9/23/2007 1:32:24 AM | I would say in Canada, a tiny little lake about 30 minutes away from Jasper, Alberta called horseshoe lake. Freezing cold, but crystal clear and has cliff diving all around it. Also, the glacier lakes in Interlaked, Switzerland- anyone ever been?
I live 45 minutes from Jasper, Alberta and as kids we would always go cliff jumping from there. Pyramid lake in the area as well has a spectacular view. I've also been to the Interlaken area of Switzerland if that's what you are talking about? Beautiful there as well! Took the Gondola to the rotating restraunt featured in that one James Bond movie, can't think of it right now.
Crater lake was nice as well, seen that one too.
|
| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 9/23/2007 5:09:20 PM | I like the Swedish large inland lakes, Vattern, near Jonkoping. Simply beautiful.
Lake Michigan and Superior away from the populated areas are also great.
