I've gotta go with Lake Eerie on this one...

I'm joking, of course.

Actually, I adore New York's Lake George and the Lake Placid area.

Lake Atitlan in Guatemala is surrounded by tall volcanoes with traditional little villages clinging to the sides of the lake on the steep slopes.

Lake Malawi in Africa is surrounded by three heavily populated countries, yet remains largely untouched by urban areas.

Has anybody been to Baykal? It is high on my list of destinations.

Emerald Lake, Alberta it is a fine jewel (breathtaking)in the Canadian Rockies..situated around 30 minutes past Lake Louise..the lake is a deep green color..to get into this fine resort you must book ahead..you will be picked up at the base parking lot...LOL..
Found that out AFTER the limo I was in went straight up the moutain side road..WHICH only allows thier personal transportation to pick you up so no head on collisions......
I found this place so stunning and peaceful, breathtaking....the staff are very courteous and the accomidations excellent...food amazing...
This lake is just like out of a fairytale book...Lake Louise is a nice place to visit...it has a amazing wine list and fondue which are outta this world....

Lake Saimaa in Finland is the world's most beautiful lake. It is the biggest and the most scenic of the more than 300,000 lakes in Finland. Lake Saimaa alone has around 14,000 islands. The shoreline area in the Taipalsaari region is breathtakingly beautiful. Take a look a the following link for some information: http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=25710&LAN=ENG

Any lake with a sunrise.
Any lake with a sunset.
Any lake with a morning fog.
Any lake with an evening fog.
Any lake that has my canoe on it.
Any lake that has my boat on it.
Ok any lake period!

Turtle Flambeau Flowage northern Wisconsin, 18,000 acres 95% of the shore is state owned. Hundred of islands usually not to many people.

I went to Gaspe' Quebec on my bike recently....just leaving Perce' heading counter clockwise on a map....I had to actually slow down to under 100 to check the aquamarine lake a few miles out of town. So breathtaking I actually went back a second time, hopped off and sat there for a few hours. Very pretty....was traveling solo at the time....the only thing better would have been to watch the eyes of a lady friend as she soaked it all in too.

Crater Lake, Oregon is breathtaking. I first saw it looking down from a flight from San Francisco to Seattle and it looked like a jewel in the Earth. So I had to go there and it was amazing.

And since the entire area is a National Park it will never get developed.

Beratan Lake at Bedugul on Bali, from the Ulun Danu Temple site. When I was there, a volcano was smoking out the side of a mountain in the near distance.

Kalamalka Lake at Vernon, British Columbia. (also known as the lake of many colors)

Barrier Lake, near Kananaskis, Alberta (man-made but still beautiful)

I'm back again and still feel as I did and wrote on the last page of this forum, that beauty can't be compared, each has it's own special character and often depends upon lighting and circumstances. I'm still looking for my yardstick (see last post), Planning on sailing around the world to find her, since I haven't found her stateside.
